Erin La Rosa wrote a super sweet romantic story that tactfully addressed very difficult topics such as substance use, dysfunctional family dynamics, and losing yourself in relationships. The Plot Twist was extremely enjoyable to read - I was smiling the entire time and I wanted to continue to read about these characters!

I adored Sophie and Dash. The way they balance each other and formed their relationship was very sweet, and I loved the way they supported each other.

You'll enjoy this book if you like:
- Grumpy/sunshine
- Best friend's brother
- Close proximity
- Friends with benefits
- Only one bed

Unfortunately, I found it hard to really get into this book. I was only able to read about 15% but didn't feel a strong connection to the story or the characters. There wasn't much to the story that really captivated me enough to keep going.

I just finished Plot Twist and I cannot get it out of my mind! It's a story of exploration of self, and how it affects ones love life. Just a few of the tropes found, author with writer’s block, neighbors to lovers, best friend's brother and celebrity romance. Sophie is an author who after her debut novel has extreme writers block. Dash was an actor turned hermit as he gains his sobriety. While Sophie is exploring love and speaking to all her exes, she ends up getting to know Dash her landlord. Could he be what she is missing? I loved this book! It is a lgbtgia+ romance about finding one’s self and falling in love along the way. Sophie is an adorable disaster with a heart of gold and Dash seems to be a Hollywood bad boy who is a secret softy. The dynamic is there and leaves you needing more. I am really hoping to see more in this series and plan to go back and read For Butter or Worse.

I received an arc of this and am leaving this review of my own volition.

Plot Twist includes:
-best friend's brother/sister's best friend
-neighbors to lovers/friends to lovers
-childhood crush on an actor
-sobriety (and the struggles that come with it)
-crafting (A GHOST POTTERY WHEEL SCENE)
-dysfunctional family

I will be honest, I was drawn to this because of the tattooed man (Dash) on the cover. Tattoos are catnip for me. But then I read the blurb, and I was even that more into it. A romance writer who's never been in love? Brilliant.

Dash is a former child actor who's been sober for over a year, and Sophie is a romance author struggling to finish her second book on deadline. Dash is a secret TikTok crafter, and Sophie is basically a Disney princess. Sophie decides to meet with all her exes to hash out why their relationships end, and Dash encourages her, believing that he's not in a place to be with anyone, no matter how much he wants to be with her.

From the beginning, Plot Twist had me excited. I am a HUGE fan of romance books about writers, and this did not disappoint. Plot Twist was a super fast, FUN read. I adored both Dash and Sophie, and think they're both such solid characters that did a lot of growing as the story progressed. It was a lot of fun to see the two of them interact. All of Sophie's ex interactions were so painful and cringey, and it was so much fun to read about those and her reactions.

Also. This is SPICY? Like there are only a couple of spicy scenes but the ones we got caught me by surprise. Erin La Rose, you get an A+.

The stalker subplot was a little bit abrupt, and I would've like it to play out a bit further, but otherwise, this was a SOLID 4.5 stars! And La Rosa's book, for Butter or Worse is about Sophie's sister, so I will be checking that one out soon! A huge thanks to Netgalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing and Canary Street Press, and Erin La Rosa for this arc, which I received for review.

This book is an adorable romcom that incorporates social media, especially tiktok, throughout. It was easy to read and I loved seeing the characters relationship develop while they also tackled sobriety and complicated family dynamics.

I really enjoyed how from the first chapter we see Dash fall for Sophie. I learned that two of the most important things in a relationship are trust and communication. I’m glad I was able to go along on Sophie’s journey to recognize why her past relationships had not worked out before. Dash’s family, except Poppy, really got on my nerves. It’s says a lot about someone’s parent and siblings when you can’t trust them with something that’s going on your life like Dash was going through. I’m glad Sophie was able to be that someone that Dash could rely on and know he wouldn’t get judged no matter how much he judged himself. I also really enjoyed all the scenes were we see Dash spend time with his friend Chris and his family. The way Dash would stepped up to take care of baby Luna had my heart melting. Hopefully we can get some bonus content in the future on Dash and Sophie’s relationship and hopefully they have a daughter. How cute would that be with their daughter, baby Luna and Nina’s daughter being on daily playdates.

i love this book sm, need to reread IMMEDIATELY.

She’s written off more than she can chew…

Romance author Sophie Lyon’s ironic secret just went viral: she’s never been in love. Though her debut novel made readers swoon, Sophie’s having trouble getting her new characters to happily-ever-after, and she blames it on her own uninspired love life. With a manuscript deadline looming, Sophie makes an ambitious plan to overcome her writer’s block: reunite with her exes to learn why she's never fallen in love—and document it all for her millions of new online followers. Which also means facing her ex-girlfriend Carla, the one person Sophie could have loved.

Luckily, Sophie’s reclusive landlord, Dash Montrose—a former teen heartthrob—has social media all figured out and offers to help. But he doesn't mention that he’s an anonymous online crafter, a hobby that helps him maintain his sobriety. No one knows about his complicated relationship with alcohol and he intends to keep it that way. His family is Hollywood royalty, so Dash has to steer clear of scandal.

As Sophie and Dash grow closer, they discover a heat between them that rivals Dash's pottery kiln. But Sophie needs to figure out who she is outside her relationships, and Dash isn’t sure he’s stable enough for the commitment she deserves. So Sophie suggests what any good romance author would: a friends-with-benefits arrangement. Surely a casual relationship won’t cause any trouble…

Plot Twist was adorable. I really found the characters relatable and believable. I find the best friend’s brother to be one of those I know I shouldn’t but do situations that I love. I loved how shy Dash was but also how Sophie knew what she wanted. I thought there was good representation of the relationships that Sophie was in. I did not read the first book in this series but I don’t think that hindered my understanding of anything which I appreciated. If I’m honest, I finished this in one setting. I wouldn’t say I went through an entire range of emotions but it was close. I got that heartaching feeling at one point. All in all, I really enjoyed this.

So I absolutely LOVED the MMC's storyline and most things about it. I thought the emphasis on sobriety was fantastically handled and well written. But everything else was a little weak. I'm still not really sure if I buy that the FMC & MMC somehow ended up together? And pretty much everything about the FMC felt contrived, especially when compared to the MMC. I enjoyed it, but it was a slow read for me because it was just okay.

I was really struggling on whether to give this book 1 or 2 stars. I was not a fan of this book at all. It was extremely cringey and so slow and just not engaging. The first half of the book was so hard for me to get through but it picks up a little in the second half. Most of the characters are boring and don't really have any personality. The parts of this book that I liked were the stalker and alcoholism plots. I wish that there would've been more with the stalker angle because it never really feels as dangerous as stalkers actually are (because of the genre of book). I also liked the idea of Sophie reconnecting with her exes but those parts ended up being SO BORING. I think there were a lot of potentially good ideas here but it just wasn't executed good enough for me. Also the book is titled "Plot Twist" but there is literally no plot twist?

Plot Twist initially gave me some hesitancy, but I found myself wanting to see Dash and Sophie interact more, and I quickly flew through the rest of the book! I have a tendency to not love when current world concepts (Tiktok, Iphones, etc) are mentioned throughout stories, and this has a decent premise on Tiktok. It isn't that it makes it inherently bad, it just isn't something as a reader that I enjoy.

There are some heavier aspects with family dynamics and Dash working through being newly sober, which I appreciated.

Super cute meta-romance! I love when tropes are explicitly mentioned, it always makes me laugh. This is a book for you if you like books about writers that give you warm and fuzzy feelings.

That being said, this book also covers some not as lighthearted topics like sobriety and dysfunctional families.

I wish more of the characters had a chance to develop more throughout the book, but this was a fun read!

Full of tractor kinks, a trip to the Ripped Bodice, and a fish named Rain Boots— how could you go wrong with Plot Twist?

Plot Twist follows Sophie, a struggling romance author, as she reconnects with her past exes to spark inspiration for her looming deadline. Cue Dash, a struggling sober ex-actor who would love to live out his days peacefully making pots. He’s also her neighbor and bff’s brother. While the tropes seem familiar, Erin La Rosa’s deep dive into Dash’s struggle with sobriety sparks a flame in Sophie and Dash’s story that I haven’t felt before in romance.

Plot Twist’s deep exploration into the struggles of sobriety is as real as it gets for a rom-com. Dash’s experience is so moving that we wonder if this is really his story? Sophie is stellar, but Dash is so compelling we read on for his sober journey. We need more sobriety stories in romance and this one is absolutely riveting.

DNF . I feel terrible , but I DNF’d this book and the one before it (For Butter or for Worse) … there was just something that didn’t keep my attention .

This was a fun read - a few of the plot points felt a bit contrived, and some of the dialogue was a little stilted, but there were also some really excellent passages, a nice level of steam, and characters who were easy to fall for. A quick read with a fun twist on a friends/neighbors to lovers story.

Charming story of a romance writer with writers block. When a drunken karaoke night out she admits on Tik Tok that she’s never been in love becomes a viral sensation, she embarks on a journey of self discovery by interviewing her exes as to why. Her landlord, Hollywood royalty Dash, is secretly a recovering alcoholic just a few months out of rehab, and desperately trying to remain on a sober path without his family or the public knowing. The two make a great duo for bolstering each other in their quests which, of course leads to an unexpected attraction. It’s a story of forgiveness for yourself, finding your own joy, and being open to love.

Plot twist started off slow for me as it felt too unbelievable with all of the characters in famous roles. I enjoyed the second half much better, getting in to the depth of Dash's character.

There were cute funny moments too like the backyard squirrel!

This story follows a romance author who has never actually been in love. Sophie needs help getting her new characters to speak to her and thinks her ex's might be able to enlighten her. Neighbor Dash is willing to help but he has secrets of his own. When sparks fly, neither of them think they are ready for a real relationship so friends with benefits is what's offered. Will it actually work?
This was a fun and entertaining story where I fell in love with both characters for different reasons. I highly suggest checking this book out. Enjoy!!

Not gonna lie, this book made me kinda mad.

This was one of the tropiest (if that’s not a word, it is now) books I’ve ever read. It had so many tropes it felt fake. I never got myself too immersed in the story because at all times I was aware I was reading a book, which is not really a good sign of enjoyment.

All the characters (specially Sophie) were so quirky it hurt me deeply and Dash might be on the list of romantic interests with no romantic or sexual appeal to them whatsoever. It wasn’t specified how old any of the characters were except for Dash, who’s 36. Because of how every character conducted themselves I would’ve guessed them to be in their mid to late twenties, and that’d be pushing it.

I lost interest by the 60% mark or so but pushed through FOR WHAT? The ending was lame at best. Also, I don’t understand why the book is titled “Plot Twist” at all because PLOT TWIST… there is no plot twist.

I gave it two stars because at one point in the beginning I couldn’t put it down and because I actually finished it instead of DNFing.
