this book felt like it was written around the tropes that Erin La Rosa wanted to include rather than having the tropes naturally integrate into the story.

the writing style was enjoyable overall and normally pop-culture/internet references don’t bother me (as long as they are done well), but i couldn’t handle the TikTok references that were happening over and over and over. it felt disingenuous to Dash’s character and the overall story. lets also not forget his username is @tokcrafty2me … i wish i was making that up.

im still giving this 2 stars because while it wasn’t for me, i know there are people that would enjoy this. the writing style was good, the plot was fun and fast-paced.

i just think meta-romance is either going to absolutely knock my socks off OR annoy the living hell out of me. unfortunately in the case of Plot Twist, it it was the latter.

dnf'ing at 30%.

this book just wasn't for me. the writing style, character and plots were good but I wasn't enjoying it too much. some parts felt like the tropes were included just to include them and was incorporated properly. it felt very forceful and I didn't like it. the pop culture references was not it for me😭 the tiktok references were making me cringe and I couldn't look past it.

i received an ARC from netgalley.

this is a 2.5 star read for me. the characters and the plot was amazing. i just didn’t enjoy the writing. i prefer more complex writing and it seemed a bit too rushed for my liking but otherwise i would recommend. it’s a fun fast read

Thank you Netgalley, Publisher, and Erin La Rosa for letting me read this Arc in exchange for an honest review,

First you should check the trigger warnings before reading. It had alcoholism/ sobriety struggles throughout the book.

I usually go into books without knowing what they are about and I loved this book. It hits close to home knowing someone in my life that goes through the same steps that dash went though. It was written beautifully and talking about what's going on in our society. Everyone should deserve to be loved no matter on the hard ships they're going through. You just need to learn to love yourself first.

I absolutely devoured the relationship between Sophie and Dash. The ups and downs they went through, to find each other in the end. The vulnerability that dash went through was a refreshing lead. Even though it can be hard letting someone in, he finally opened up and showed his emotions. All I wanted to do is hug him and never let go.
I will definitely read another book from this author.

This book was absolutely amazing from start to finish. I am so thankful that I was able to get my hands on this early. Erin La Rosa was a new to me author and I will be reading anything and everything she writes from now on.

I don’t want to give too much away but you will not regret this purchase.

i tried to like this, but it's hard to take seriously when the entire book revolves around tiktok. there was so much tiktok. also, both leads were very one-dimensional and there were so many unnecessary pop culture references that i'm sure will age badly.

I would like to start off thanking NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Time to get to business. Going into this the cover and description caught my interest right off the bat. Our main characters are Sophie a romance author (of one book) who has never been in love and Dash a child actor who is dealing with personal struggles and just so happens to also be Sophie's landlord and brother to her best friend. Let's be honest here folks a romance author who has never been in love is just crazy and the reader fully knows this book is going to end with said author learning all about themselves and falling in love.

This book hits on a lot of things like addiction, recovery, stress of adult life, IVF, toxic relationships, TikTok, and other things. The author did a good job at not making character's addictions and challenges with sobriety their personality. Yes it was a big part of who they were but it wasnt all that was on the page. It showed their hobbies and the passions they found along the way. She also showed the struggled Sophie had with her love of writing failing her when she needed it most for her deadline. She loves it so much but the writing block was more than just getting words on pages but finding out who she really is and what she wants and needs in her own love story.

Now on to the reasoning behind the rating. I had so much hope for this book thinking it would be right up my alley with the author who loved to read and teen heart-throb topic at hand but sadly while i was reading this i could not for the life of me remember what i had read when i put the book down. I ended up having to take notes every time i took a break so could go back and remember what happened to the characters. Only after the 65% mark did i actually start to keep what i read in my head. Not to mention the story went from one thing to another, finding out Sophie had never fallen in love to a TikTok series of her telling the internet to meet her 7 Evil Exs ( not really 7 though since there is only 4 ) while also trying to write her romance books on the side and try not to be with her neighbor/landlord/best friends brother. There were frequent parts in the beginning and middle portion of the book that in the words of Sophie our main female character ""didn't feel quite right". Reading it just felt off almost like i could feel the wrongness the character was feeling but about the whole story so far,

Also dont get me started on how this book covered almost every trope to man (minus the accidental pregnancy one thank the gods) we got Best friend's bother/ sisters-BFF, we got friends-to-lovers, we got forced-proximity, we got the lovely only-one-bed, the deadly miscommunication, and fated-to-be. I was checking these tropes off as i found them questioning if this was a play on the main character being an author for giggles or if this was done just because this author likes it.

That smut and spice though was 10/10 with the want and need so strong there was minimal time for sexual frustration. I will also reward on the miscommunication being so short i couldn't roll my eyes fully before it was over.

Would i recommend this book? Yes for frequent romance readers it might be a hit or miss like me but if you read romance books as your preferred genre this book is probably for you.

This book was amazing. I was so engrossed with the characters and the plot that I was disappointed when the book ended.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an E-Arc copy of this novel. A fun and cute romance novel.

Plot Twist was SUCH a good book. It had the perfect amount of spice, chaotic family, and best friends brother trope all wrapped up into one. The Sophie and Dash love story was super cute and I loved how it grew throughout the book.

I would recommend this to anyone.

A quirky, sexy romp that had me turning pages into the night. An ex-actor struggling with sobriety and a frazzled writer struggling to meet her deadline decide to help each other out, with sizzling results. Will definitely look for more from Erin de la Rosa.

Thank you to NetGalley & Harlequin for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Erin La Rosa is a new author to me, but I loved the cover and the premise sounded so promising. Unfortunately, I didn't love this one as much as I had hoped to.

I loved that Sophie & Dash were older protagonists, as someone in their thirties I liked that I was very close in age to them. I liked that their relationship was not perfect and they struggled, but I wanted more tension and chemistry between them. There were a lot of tropes in this, and it almost felt overbearing sometimes and made me lose interest.

Overall this was cute and had some spice, but it never truly hooked me.

This was a very enjoyable read. At first, based on the summary, I thought I had read it before. There have been other romances featuring an author suffering from writer’s block. However, Erin La Rosa put a fresh spin on this trope. I am in awe that this writer was able to make this book so fresh and engaging.

Sophie, the romance writer who has never been in love, attempts to figure out what is wrong with her love life by visiting exes. She is helped along the way by Dash, the brother of her best friend. In addition to the romance that develops between the two, there are several plot lines that were interesting. For example, Dash is a member of an acting dynasty family. The constant pressure and attention pushed Dash into alcoholism. And, the added benefit with having a writer as a main character is the emphasis on the writing process and grammar-related humor…my favorite being “rebel without a clause.”

I appreciate the opportunity to read this witty and wise novel. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

This is a wonderful, cohesive romance with unforgettable characters that actually focuses on the idea of love regardless of gender. Sophie is a romance author in her thirties that is struggling to write the end of her second book because she’s never been in love. Dash is a former actor turned artist with an anonymous TikTok account that allows him to show his work but also help him maintain his sobriety.

When Sophie is filmed in a bar saying she’s never been in love, she sets off to meet with her exes to see what went wrong and, hopefully, cure her writers block. Enter Dash, with his TikTok account. He helps Sophie with her TikTok videos about her exes and they grow closer. You can see the sparks between these two but Dash isn’t ready for the commitment of a relationship. Sophie then poses the idea of a friends with benefits situation and that’s where I stop because you have to read it to figure out the end.

The story gave off hallmark movie vibes in some parts but with more normal characters. This story also talks about some sensitive topics like mental health, dysfunctional families, and alcoholism. These issues didn’t take away from the story, but were incorporated into it and were the root of a few twists and turns in the story.

Overall, loved this story and the characters. I couldn’t put it down and read it in a few days.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Really enjoyed this book and figured I would since the description was right up my alley! I really appreciated the main character being pansexual. I feel like we don't really see that too much in stories. I also appreciated that Dash's struggle with sobriety wasn't perfect and didn't have a super happy ending. Too many times books like to kind of make the struggle easier than it is - this one made it more real. Overall the comedy of this book was good and found myself chuckling at some parts and I really liked the characters. Definitely a fun read and one that was easy to finish in a day since I was so interested in the story.

Great cover right? Well, it started high and went low for me. The description sounded intriguing. A romance writer meeting a muse but the writing just fell flat for me. The pace was so slow without really any build on the characters to give this story momentum and cohesion.

Also, Dash was never a compelling character for me. His alcoholism and his lack of regard for others were too much to get invested in his character. Also, the crafter thing didn't work for me either.

The pluses, Sophie, the adorable dates, there was some steam, and the LA bookstores. But the ePUB sample font was not adjustable and difficult to read and stay with it.

I'm sorry this story fell flat for me. Dash never seemed desirable and I prefer stronger female heroines.

I would like to thank NetGalley, the publisher for the opportunity to read and review Plot Twist by Erin La Rosa.

This book did not work for me. Before I get to that, I do want to say that I was very intrigued by this book. I like the grumpy vs sunshine vibes, the exploration of different types of relationships, and that our MFC is a romance author.

That being said, I felt like the author had a very long list of things and tropes that she wanted in the book and tried very hard to squeeze everything in, which makes the plot a bit confusing and inconsistent. I kept being quite confused as I was reading. Why did they even go on a road trip together? Was it just to use the one-bed trope, because nothing else really happened? Why did her sister react in that way? Do they not have a good relationship? Wouldn't her sister know that things can be misconstrued in the media? Why is Dash leaving strange comments on her TikTok videos?

This one was just not for me.

The cover drew me in, but it was hard to keep going with this one. I was excited to read about this romance writer in a rut. Seemed like a light and fun trope. It was a light read that went fast if you are looking for a fun beach read this summer.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. However, I had trouble connecting with the characters and their stories.

I thought the little dates he took her on were just adorable. And the tension was good. But I felt like it was trying too hard to have main characters with trauma. It felt very forced.

I had trouble believing that the sister and the main character were best friends. Their relationship was very bland and forced.

With all that said, it was still an enjoyable read.

Thank you to Net Galley and Canary Street Press for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of Plot Twist by Erin La Rosa. Unfortunately, I didn't love this one like I did "For Butter or Worse", so I'm giving it a 3-star review because even though I didn't love it, it was still an enjoyable book. Sometimes the downfall of series books is I tend to compare them to each other which was probably the downfall with this one.

An aspect of this book I loved was Sophie being a romance author who has never been in love. I love when storylines include romance authors because I think it provides a fun glimpse into where I spend so much of my time - reading romance books. A big plus for me was seeing little glimpses into Nina's relationship throughout the book.
