Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

A slow burn psychological thriller with unlikeable characters. The story floats between now and then. A story about secrets and lies. Sorry to say this book was not for me.2 stars

This book was an enjoyable read. I enjoyed the slow reveal of what was really going on and the ending. Thanks for the early review copy.

My first book from this author and I’m not really sure if I liked this book or not! It was an interesting read but going back and forth between then and now seemed confusing and I don’t feel that the story flowed as smooth as it could have. It was enjoyable most of the time and I will definitely try another book by this author. Thank you to NetGalley, Alex Stone and Boldwood books for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Lauren has been through a lot. She had an abusive childhood, and that lead her into an abusive relationship. When she wakes up in a hospital bed and is told her boyfriend is missing, she isn’t sure what’s right. Could she have murdered him? The police seem to think she did…The only person who believes in her innocence is her friend, Dr Menon. He’s cared for her as his patient over the last few weeks and they’ve grown close. With the evidence mounted against her, will Lauren be able to prove her innocence?

What a fun psychological thriller. This is one of my favorite types of thrillers, but it is so hard to master – yet Alex Stone has done just that.

I really enjoyed the dual timelines on this one. I loved the friendship between Lauren and Dr Menon. The book was well written despite the heavy topics covered. The book was fast paced and kept me engaged. I loved how we didn’t quite know the relationship between Dr Menon and Lauren until the end. And we were kept guessing as to if Lauren killed Josh. I loved the twists and turns!

Please check your trigger warnings with this one – domestic and child abuse are present.

I really enjoyed this one and hope you check it out March 22nd.

Thank you to the publisher Boldwood Books, and Netgalley @netgalley for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have read "The other girlfriend" by Alex Stone, and really enjoyed it, so was looking forward to reading this book. Sadly, I found it slightly disappointing.
Starting out, I thought the plot was promising, Lauren was used to pain in her life, and had been taught that love was painful, the two were entwined. Lauren appears to have the support of her boyfriend, to others her relationship seems loving and happy, but appearances can be deceptive.
Lauren wakes up in hospital after an accident, her boyfriend is missing, and the police suspect Lauren of knowing more than she is saying about where her boyfriend is, and what happened to him.
The only person Lauren feels she can rely on is the doctor who is treating her, Dr. Menon. He believes in her, and does not think her capable of murder, but does he really know her?
I had difficulty engaging with the characters in the book, I found some parts of it repetitive, which made me lose interest. I wanted to like this book, but it wasn't for me.

I didn't Relate to any of these characters or their story. It was a decent story about hope after abuse with some twists.

This story started off as a slow burn but picked up half way through. A solid read. Heartbreaking in many ways but solid.
Once I got into this I flew through it. This is a first by me for this author but it definitely won't be my last. If you like phycological books you will love this.
Thank you Netgalley for this arc

Wow this was such an incredible book! The writing and storytelling were so compelling and intriguing. Stone kept me guessing to the very end with so many plot lines.

It does handle some pretty heavy topics like domestic abuse and FII (fabricated or induced illness by carers). It was really difficult to read at times because both of these are things that do happen in the real world and are horrific. It reminded me a lot of the Gypsy Rose Blanchard case from years ago with what happened with Lauren and her mother.

I thought all the time jumps every other chapter would be confusing, but they werent. It helped having each chapter start with "Then" or "Now", and any scenes that took place during Lauren's childhood were italicized.

I never really knew where this book was going to go plot wise, which was so refreshing. The storytelling was done so well that it kept the readers in the dark about a lot until the very end. There were times when I was sure Josh was harming Lauren, or Lauren was harming herself the way her mother did, and there were times when I suspected her doctor Abhilash.

That ending was painful to read. After everything Lauren had suffered in her life, I was hoping we would end with a happy ending. But even though her and Abhilash loved each other he left for India for an arranged marriage. Even though this was hard to read, I respect Alex Stone for this because it was a really strong ending having Lauren realize that she can be on her own. She doesn't need the love of another to get her through. It is a strong message that a lot of people struggle to learn.

Thank you NetGalley for an eARC copy of The Good Patient by Alex Stone.

This story, while not entirely satisfying for me, however, is less contrived and simpler than many in this genre and that is to its credit.

Lauren has had to visit hospital far more than what is usual for people her age. It turns out that her mother had mental health issues, based on Lauren’s version of events. Is it possible that Lauren is hurting herself? Lauren lives with her boyfriend of many years – Josh, and their relationship is a stressful one. She confides a few aspects of her relationship with her doctor Dr Abhilash Menon, and they grow closer to each other. In the latest instance, Lauren was on a jet-ski which she says stalled and she finds herself later in hospital. Josh usually accompanies her but is now untraceable. Lauren claims Josh was not with her this time as they had just broken up, but many do not believe her as Josh’s car is parked in their usual place when they go jet-sking.

The story is told in timelines from the present and past – how Lauren & Josh met and how their relationship evolves. The pace is very slow and many sections simply do not move the story forward at all. While there are charming and nice aspects to Lauren and Abhilash’s relationship, it is not fully explored. I felt there were better ways to end the story, though this is not too bad. There is this character of Nick – Abhilash’s roommate which comes across as a waste.

Overall, I struggled to stay engaged with the story though there are positive aspects of Lauren’s personality. I liked the simplicity of the story as well, which is more honest than most in this genre.

The Good Patient is a standalone character-driven psychological mystery/drama by author, Alex Stone. This is the third book released by this author, and I think it is the best one yet. Alex Stone writes some of the most psychologically complex characters I’ve ever read. I noted in my reviews for the previous two books, how much I enjoy her characters and this one is no exception. The story is paced well and overall quick and easy to read. It made me want to keep reading to find out what happens. The story covers themes around child abuse and domestic violence, which may be triggering for some readers. I think Alex Stone is an excellent storyteller and I’m looking forward to seeing what she brings out next. Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an opportunity to read an arc of this novel.

I really enjoyed this domestic thriller even though parts were difficult to read due to my own similar experiences to the lead character!

Throughout her life Lauren has been controlled by pain and fear from those who were supposed to be there to care for her but now things are changing!

Told through a dual timeline we follow Lauren as she develops a new friendship and discovers what life could be like for her as well as being shown the reality of her situation as it was. It's interesting reading about the three parts of her life and how they flowed into making her who she is by the end of the book.

I believe this to be another great book by this author, I'm looking forward to reading more in the future too!

Thank you @netgalley for the advanced review copy of The patient by Alex stone. This one was a pretty decent read for me, the plot was attention grabbing, the story revolves around a patient whose suffered from domestic violence in her childhood and now is somehow is getting herself hurt every now and then. The doctors are worried Something wrong is going on, Maine sudden day her boyfriend disappears, but a doctor is convinced that she has nothing to do with it.

The story alternates between now and then front point of view of the main protagonist along with memories of her childhood which I like a lot. I usually like multiple timelines and multiple point of views that makes me connect with the book and the characters more. Author has very cleverly included a few of the childhood memories of the main protagonist which connects her future and the past.

I would highlight trigger warnings in here- book contains instances including child abuse and domestic violence, so I would thesuggest readers should check these warnings before reading the book. If the reader is okay with the trigger warnings then this is definitely a read that everyone should pick up.

Writing style was very easy to understand and book itself was a pretty fast Fast paced, and it definitely kept me interested the very end. This one was an easy binge for me, not too long not to short. Just One thing though, I thought was the start was pretty impressive the way author had built the whole plot was very good, but the ending seemed a little rushed. Also it felt more like domestic thriller than a psychological thriller, but yes I definitely like the book.

I am looking forward to read more books by the author as I really like to writing style. The good patient by Alex stone was a three star read to me. Definitely recommended to anyone whose into domestic thrillers and is ok with the trigger warnings provided.

Thumbs up!!

Excellent book! I had a hard time going back and forth in time so fast through a lot of the book, but that make me set it down. Fast, ver interesting read.

The Good Patient by Alex Stone is due to be published March 22 2023 and is a psychological domestic thriller based entirely on Lauren and her boyfriend going missing.

it’s revealed slowly that when Lauren was younger her mother had Munchausen by proxy syndrome. The author does an amazing job revealing these details throughout the story. Is this why Lauren is the way she is now?

I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone that is easily triggered but it’s not overly involved but it’s in there. I thought this was a well paced book and will be looking for other books from this author.

Thank you Netgalley, Alex Stone and Boldwood Books for allowing me to read an advanced readers copy of the Good Patient.

This one, I have to admit, started off just a little slow for my tastes, but once it picked up I was completely hooked!

We find Lauren in the hospital. And it appears as though this isn’t the first time. Her life seems to be one accident or incident after another leading to hospital visits starting from when she was very young with her mother and now with her live in boyfriend Josh. This time, she was on a jetski when she fell off and was found unconscious. She is certain she went out alone, but everything points to the fact that Josh went with her-especially the fact that Josh is now missing. Lauren’s doctor tries to make her see that her relationship with Josh is toxic while the investigators look into her past with her mother who suffered from Muchausens (now known as FII) and whether or not Lauren is suffering from it as well and if she did in fact have anything to do with what happen to Josh.
In the process of spending time with her doctor, they develop feelings for each other and Lauren starts to wonder if maybe he might be her future if she could be free of Josh.
The story is told in past and present timelines and Lauren is an unreliable narrator so you never know what to expect. This was a fun and twisting read that left me guessing til the end.
Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.

This just wasn't for me. It's very character based and all of the characters are seriously lacking. In everything. The idea that all women are crazy is just idiotic and the idea that women need men is just as outdated. Especially in a time when we're seeing more women than ever choosing to be single because we can easily manage careers, social lives and amily without the baggage of men dragging us down. So yeah..... I just didn't connect with this at all. I really expected it to be more thriller-y but I just felt like it dragged n I absolutely didn't care

The Good Patient can be described as a psychological domestic book centred on Lauren, who's boyfriend goes missing.

It's slowly revealed that when she was a child, Lauren's mother suffered Munchausen by Proxy. The author does a good job revealing details progressively, which makes the reader question and reexamine the story as it unfolds.

The plot itself feels well paced - not too slow or rushed - and it's neatly wrapped up for those who like a tidy ending.

Overall, it's an enjoyable read and the difficult subjects within are tackled sensitively but not glossed over, all adding to the main character's motives and our understanding of them.

I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review-
Lauren is always sick- her mother takes her to the doctor and swears she gives her the same medicine as the doctor does but why does her tummy still hurt? And then she meets Josh and things get better until they aren’t and once again she finds herself in the hospital or at the doctors. Then the day she wakes up in the hospital and Josh is missing- now they think she is capable of murder- but - who knows what goes on in each one’s home except Dr. menon who believes in her innocence.
