I thought this was going to be a light-hearted cutesy book. I was not expecting it to share so much more than that. We have a FMC struggling with childhood trauma and an MMC who is a single father. On paper they don't seem like a great match but in reality, they are meant for each other. Even his ex-wife is a delightful addition to the book. This is easy to read while dealing with tough topics, flowed and was overall enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this book and I liked how they first met through fake names. The plot was intriguing and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

This just wasn’t my cuppa. I could see how someone would like this but I found it kinda boring. I went into this pretty much knowing nothing, and we completely honest it barely kept my attention. I had a couple of exciting moments one when I found out that mercy‘s father was a murderer, but that turned out to be meh. Also, the MMC was kind of annoying or maybe he wasn’t annoying but his storyline was annoying. He’s “ a nice guy” which doesn’t mean he was awful, but like OK.
Not to mention, this is a clean romance, which just really isn’t my vibe.

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley, and exchange for an honest review.

this is a very heart-warming story and one that gave me lots of emotions.
the main characters were sweet and adorable and i simply loved the single dad trope and how it was portraied.
i usually stay clear off cean romances, but this one was pretty lovely.

What a fun read! I loved Love Notes by Aimee Brown! I love the single father trope. There's just something about a man who is good with children. And it adds such a fun element to the story.

Brooks Hudson can’t understand where he’s going wrong.
Doting single father to six-year-old Ali, supportive co-parent with his ex, much-loved friend and respected colleague, not to mention he’s smoking hot. So why is he constantly being dumped, told in no uncertain terms he’s ‘too nice’? Since when was being nice a crime?
Mercy is in serious need of someone to restore her faith in men, and Brooks needs a girl he likes to stick around long enough for him to believe in love again. But when Mercy’s past threatens to remind her of everything she’s scared of, will love be enough to save the day?

Thank you NetGalley, Publishers, and Aimee Brown for gifting me a copy of Love Notes in return for my honest opinion.

3/5 stars

Mercy Alexander doesn’t believe in love, let alone love at first sight.

There’s one surefire way of steering clear of heartbreak, and that’s not to get your heart involved in the first place. So what is that irritating flutter she feels every time she sees Brooks Hudson, and why is she finding him so hard to ignore? Brooks Hudson can’t understand where he’s going wrong. Doting single father to six-year-old Ali, a supportive co-parent with his ex, a much-loved friend, and a respected colleague, not to mention he’s smoking hot.

This was a very cute romantic story. Mercy was a wonderful character to read about she had a tough upbringing with her father being a murderer and all. I loved reading about her and Brooks they were so sweet together and I really enjoyed reading about their relationship.

For me, this was your typical run-of-the-mill romance. Nothing special to it just a cute romantic story.

"Love Notes" is a standalone novel by Aimee Brown, featuring two flawed, cynical characters in their 30s reconnecting after a previous fling. The story is complex, with stakes and traumas to uncover, including Mercy's father issues, Brooks' job-related trauma, and Mercy and Brook's relationship issues. The story loses steam around the halfway mark, with a frenzied rush to the end. The relationship between Brooks and his daughter and his ex-wife is enjoyable, but the story lacks depth and connection. It is not my favorite of the year.

This book was ok. The characters had chemistry but I just wasn't excited about them. I think I am in a reading slump because I have seen the great reviews but I couldn't get into it.

Love Notes is a cute story about finding love when it’s not expected.

The best thing about this book is the lightheartedness of a love story, but with the depth of dealing with past demons. The characters are strong and a delight to read.

This is a great book for the perfect escape

Mercy, a talented musician, doesn’t believe in love, but she does love a one night stand and getting her needs met from men. Brooks, an undercover detective, desperately wants a relationship but keeps getting dumped. When the two cross paths and Mercy’s past comes back to haunt her, sparks fly and Brooks shows Mercy she’s worthy of love. Brooks is swoon worthy and sweet, Mercy is funny and talented. I liked this one for the genuine romance feeling and plot - read it for a quick, cute contemporary rom com feel.

Vibes: dual POV, single dad, music, second chance, detective, suspense, slow burn, no spice

Mercy has always been skeptical about love, opting for casual dating instead. Due to a history of abandonment, past traumas, and family complications, she maintains a guarded distance from others. On the other hand, Brooke is a divorced individual with a young daughter. Despite his attempts to date other women after the divorce, he often finds himself on the receiving end of rejection. Unbeknownst to him, he tends to rush relationships, unaware that the other person may not share his speed. Years ago, Mercy and Brooke had a brief fling, and now their paths cross once more at an opportune moment. Their encounters become more frequent, leaving them unable to stop thinking about each other.

This book delves into the realm of second-chance romance and friendship. Both Mercy and Brooke face significant challenges that they must overcome, and as their pasts intertwine with their present circumstances, they find solace in working through them together. The strength of the friendship between Brooke and Mercy is a joy to read about. Overall, it is a heartwarming story that touched my heart.

This is such an easy read and the well written characters make you root for them from the very start. The chemistry is brilliant and the extra characters and connections are perfectly pitched too. I am eagerly awaiting the next book and new adventures.

This is very much a character driven story and both Mercy and Brooks turn out to be fairly complicated people, with eventful back stories. As you find out, their pasts lead them to some common links and add to your feeling that they are fated to meet up. Mercy has put up solid walls around her feelings and is confused by her reaction to Brooks. Brooks is looking for some stability and you get to see his driving forces when he is with his family.

There are some comic parts of the story. Brook's first wife adds to the humour as do Mercy's friends. This is a fun, light read which has a heart-warming side. Despite Mercy's background, there is hope that she will allow herself to trust . Although the story is a standalone, the characters feature in other stories by the author and River is the next to feature.

In short: Can love beat down Mercy's defences?

Love Notes by Aimee Brown was a timely and delightful read. This swoony romance had me hooked, and I appreciate how the author fearlessly tackles real-life issues like depression and anxiety. While I miss the edgier language from Aimee's earlier books, I still thoroughly enjoyed this one. Thank you, Aimee, for another great read, and I hope to see River's story in the future. Kudos to Boldwood Books for the ARC!

Mercy has given up on love. Brooks is still searching for love. These two are given a second chance to rekindle that past fling. Can he show her that everyone is deserving of love & leap at the chance of something more.

Okay, I can’t fathom why this book isn’t getting more noise. It’s a hidden gem that I need everyone to discover & hype up.

This story was one of my highly anticipated reads. And let me tell you, it feels amazing not only to have this meet my expectation, but for it to surpass it. I. AM. IN. LOVE. Scoot over Dan & Holly (just a tiny bit), Mercy & Brooks have entered the building and they are here to stay indefinitely.

As always, Aimee had done a phenomenal job with her writing style and the characters’ development. The banter was spot on, romance was heart swooning, & chemistry was brilliant. It left me cocooned in a warm hug of feelings. And this one had a great array of side characters which will keep your intertest piqued at all time.

I swooned and adored every second of this story. Mercy and Brooks have my heart forever. Fate worked its magic getting their paths crossed once again, with this time being the right one. With Mercy needing someone she can trust to help heal her past traumas and Brook finding the right woman to accept him fully, as he is. He's this gentle giant with an intensity that comes out at the perfect moments, and I loved the combination of his gruff possessiveness paired with the understanding tenderness. Mercy, my feisty girl, who didn’t allow her family issues to deter her from growing up to being this independent kickass strong woman. Tough shell with a soft heart. Together, they were magic, and I was wholeheartedly, enthusiastically hooked the entire way through. I kept counting the seconds to read their next encounter. Wanted them to keep coming.

An undeniable chemistry that jumps right off the pages. The perfect banter. The dynamics was sweet, faultless, heartwarming, and real. It was exceptional seeing the wooing, support to one another, endearing captivation, and the delicate trust building & opening to one another.

Pairs of heels and backward ball caps … the kryptonite to my fine soul!

I said it before, and here I am, still sticking around for more of Aimee's work.
44-ish days. The number of days left to read River’s story. So, excuse me while I sit here waiting for that.

Thank you to Netgalley for copy of the ARC in exchange of an honest review.
