I loved the characters!! They were such a diverse group but somehow just worked together. All of them were well written and likeable. But I didn't love the end!! What I thought was going to happen didn't happen 🤷‍♀️ I'm not sure whether to be happy about it or not.

Overall, this was a well written and heartwarming romance that also deals with other topics quite well. Mercy's story will hook you in and you won't be able to put it down once you start!!

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book.

After positively loving He Loves me he loves me not, I couldn't wait to dive into Mercy's story.

I was anticipating a light hearted romcom, perfect for a rainy PNW afternoon, and this was h.e.a.v.y! It was SO good, but the romance took a backseat to learning more about Mercy's past (and the purely coincidental involvement of Brooks in the present day fallout of said past....or fate as his ex-wife would say).

I love the found family that is high lighted in this story, each of the people the MMC and FMC have in their corners. I loved seeing Brooks with his daughter (and the ukulele lessons with Mercy), and my favorite, how intentional they were about their relationship.

There was never any doubt about Brooks and Mercy fighting for their happily ever after BUT the presence of reeling from (very heavy) past trauma, the romance part of their story wasn't as prominent as the description suggested it would be. I think this was handled in a way delicate to the subject matter but I think the two aspects spent a good chunk of the book competing for front and center in the plot.

It was fun to revisit characters from the first book and I can't wait to see what's in store for the next installment (river perhaps??)!

Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC in exchange for my review!

I loved this book! My only complaint is that there was no spice. The plot line was intriguing and I could easily relate to the characters. I loved that they had a hurdle to climb together which brought them closer in the end. I’d definitely read another book in this series.

'Love Notes' is about Mercy who struggles a lot due to childhood trauma. But there is also Brooks, who is a single father and just trying to find his happy ending.

Look, this story is amazing, but I just needed a little more spice. The tension between the main characters was so intense and there was no scene to show that. Their soft and slow growing romance is adorable, but I felt like it needed a little more.
Mercy is a very down to earth character who I absolutely adore. She's raw, realistic and her growth is simply great. She is an amazing character and has a lot of depth.
Brooks is, for once, the nice guy who gets it all. Their was nothing toxic about him and somehow he even has manners. Which I didn't expect in the first place. I was waiting for some bad boy to enter the scene, but it was way better than the typical bad boy. He's a lovely guy but in a realistic way. The author didn't went overboard.
Also, there are so many little details. From trauma to a drag queen brother and more. Every detail is well thought of and I, as a reader, appreciate that.

'Love Notes' is the second book that I have a read by Aimee Brown, and it's the sequel to 'He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not.' The main character in this book is Mercy, who is the best friend of Hollyn from the first book in the series. Mercy is a musical prodigy- she plays five instruments and she has her own business with her friend, Dylan. Mercy doesn't want to have her heartbroken, so she doesn't let herself get attached to anyone. She doesn't do relationships. Brooks is divorced, and he's a single dad. He gets along well with his ex-wife, and he's looking for someone to commit to him. For some reason, Brooks keeps getting dumped by every woman that he dates. He's a catch, but he can't get a woman to stay with him for long enough.

Mercy had a rough childhood and a traumatic past, and this influences her present. She is afraid that her past will prevent her from moving on and finding true happiness with someone else. Her feelings start to change when she sees Brooks at a bar one night. Brooks is making her feel butterflies, and Mercy doesn't do feelings like that. Will Brooks be different that all of the other guys in her past? Brooks is a nice guy, but is he the right guy for Mercy?

I enjoyed that we got to see more of Hollyn, Dax, River, and Penny in this book. It was fun to see these characters pop in to this book, and I hope to see them all again in the next book in the series.

I loved that this book had a dual POV, and it was a second chance romance story. I loved that this was a romance story, but there were also other elements to the story. Mercy is such a strong character, and she really took steps to face her fears. I loved that they didn't have an instant love type of romance. Because of their past, they took things slow, and it felt so natural for their characters.

The musical aspects of the book were great, and it's awesome that a playlist was included at the end of the book. Music really was a central theme of the book, and the playlist adds an extra element to the book. When I reread the book, I'll use the playlist to add in another aspect to the story and the characters.

I don't want to give away any spoilers, but I will see that the ending was so beautiful. I think it was the perfect ending for these characters, and it's unique to their journey together and separately. I can't wait to read more about them in the next book in the series!

Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an ARC of this amazing book.

Love Notes will not let you down if you’re in a story for the guaranteed, no hurdles present, HEA. While there was plenty of baggage for each character, it never felt like something that would keep them apart which I appreciated.

Mercy, a music prodigy, has a tough backstory. Her dad is a drug dealer and murderer, but he’s in prison. What happens when he sends her a letter?
Brooks, a divorced, single Dad, who also happens to be a detective and play in a band, has had a rough go with dating. He is constantly getting dumped. What happens when he is at a show and sees a familiar face?
Brooks and Mercy’s story is beautiful. I LOVED this book so much. I thought everything about it was wonderful in every way! I highly recommend this for any romance lover!

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book has all of the makings of a memorable romance and I was expecting to love it based on the cover and description! About 25% of the way through the book the story began to fall flat for me and I found myself getting a little bit annoyed at the main characters and the writing style. It seemed as though there was a nickname for every character that was used randomly and often throughout the story which was very distracting to me and I had trouble keeping track of who was who. It seemed like there were a lot of extra characters that didn’t need to be in the story and it just added to my confusion.

I’m sorry that this book did not work for me. I hope that other people enjoy the story! I did enjoy the relationship development between Mercy and Brooks however it didn’t engage me the way that I was hoping.

This is the cutest cover I've ever seen and I loved the story. The pacing was great and I loved the characters. As much as this was funny, it was also surprising deep and thought provoking. I thought Merycs trauma was thoughtfully addressed and really impactful to the overall story. I think this is a must read!

Oh my goodness, this book was full to the brim with heartache, fear and love and it broke my heart a little bit but it was the most amazing story

Thank you to NetGalley, Aimee Brown and Boldwood Books for an arc of Love Notes in exchange for an honest review. This review is wholly my own & may not be reproduced.

What a swoon-worthy romance!!!! First of all – Brooks Hudson – best male MC name EVER! When I read/hear that name, I immediately know this guy is HOT!

Mercy has lost faith in guys and no longer believes in love and Brooks is the “checks every box” kind of guy, but keeps getting dumped because he’s “too nice.” Perhaps Brooks is just what Mercy needs & vice versa.

Let me be real for a second to any “younger” ladies reading this review. The bad boy jerk is not who you should be aiming for. There is no such thing as “too nice.” Find you a “too nice” guy to settle down with earlier rather than later because if not, they’ll get snatched up!

Back to the review. This was more of a straightforward romance than a rom-com. It was so sweet & heartwarming and I absolutely loved both MC. I literally want Brooks to be real so that I can marry him (don’t mention that to my husband)! Everything about this love story was so authentic & real and gives you hope for situations like this in real life. The chemistry was great and Aimee Brown’s writing style & pacing were perfect.

I definitely highly recommend this one.

4.5/5 Stars

I really enjoy reading this book. I was expecting a romance novel but it was so much more than that. Even though romance was a big part of this book I liked that it also touched other topics. I also really enjoyed the way this book was written in her and his perspective.

Woah I absolutely loved he loves me he loves me not but love notes has left me reeling.

Mercy is amazing! She is raw and real and her story is just so authentic and messy. I didn’t think you could beat Hollyn and Daxs story but I think this one is my favourite. Although I am now very excited to see how River does he’s still one of my favourite characters.

Hudson Brooks is the last person Mercy Alexander would usually date but she literally doesn’t know what is happening when she starts to get feelings for him. Mercy doesn’t do dating or feelings or love.

This is such a lovely heart warming story and really builds on the relationships established in the first book. That being said you could still read this as a stand alone book in its own right but it’s so much lovelier reading after the first.

I absolutely adored the characters in this story. Mercy gets the ending she truly deserves!

This was a very heart warming novel. I wasn't expecting the depth that the story offered and I was pleasantly surprised. "Love Notes" is the first novel I have read by Aimee Brown. Right away the story flowed, the pacing was just right and it was easy to read. The characters were likeable and human and complimented each other well. I love that Brooks ex wife got involved in a positive way which doesn't happen often. It's always the evil ex wife. This was a beautiful quirky modern family once all the pieces came together and I could picture both Brooks and Mercy's families being the ultimate support systems. This book was full of hope and healing and I enjoyed it very much. The message for me was family are the people we choose and even the most broken people deserve to love and be loved.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Boldwood books for allowing me to read an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest and unbiased comments.

Brooks is a nice guy, has a good relationship with his ex, has an adorable daughter, his job has horrible hours, and he would like to find his true love. Mercy is a talented musician, had a traumatic childhood, has a group of amazing friends, and she doesn’t believe in finding true love. It was fun to see these two get to know each other!

On the flip side, this was more than just a romcom, because Mercy’s childhood trauma is addressed throughout. But it was a well written storyline that helped me understand the characters better.

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Watch for Love Notes to come out March 23, 2023!

Mercy doesn't believe in love and Brooks needs someone to love him and stays with him. They don't make sense on paper initially but end up being terrific together. Both major characters have their own history to overcome. But they are terrific together. Many fun situations, terrific banter and likable characters. Really enjoyed it and finished it quickly in one day.

Thanks to the publisher for the arc.
