Unfortunately I did not finish this one. It held so much potential for me as I used to work on this particular studio lot…but the reading format was unpleasant and I just kept having to reread passages…my attention wandered easily. I really appreciated the ARC for this, but it just wasn’t for me.

I really loved the tone of this story. It felt very authentically LA, and the opening chapters were such a lovely ode to the backlots in Culver.

Unfortunately due to the formatting, it was very difficult to read the rest of the book. I had to DNF, but look forward to reading the rest of the story when I am able to read a different version that does not have severe formatting issues.

DNF @40%

This is my second DNF this week...sigh. I wanted to like this one more than I did. The plot had so much potential. Magical realism. Gone With The Wind. Coming of age in the late 60s. It was all there for an epic read. Alas, I just couldn't connect with the story. Part of the reason may have been my ARC had formatting issues. There were no spaces between words or sometimes whole sentences on basically every page. This had the unfortunate effect of throwing me out of the story. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I really enjoyed reading this book, it had what I was looking for from the description. I loved the idea of ghosts of movies and it was written so well. I enjoyed the use of Hollywood and loved the concept itself. Brant Vickers has a great writing style that I enjoyed a lot. It worked well and I'm so glad I was able to read this.

"It was like the flashes they experienced in the Backlot that night, only in the dream he was walking and talking with these people. He couldn’t make out what was being said, but it really didn’t look like the Backlot, not like he knew it. It was bigger and more like a real place."
