Easy nice romance to read on a peaceful slow weekend. A transportive and immersive story with well written characters.

*The Second Chance Hotel* by Sierra Godfrey is a quirky, heartwarming story about second chances, personal growth, and finding love in unexpected places. The setting of the hotel is charming, and the idea of characters reinventing their lives while dealing with their pasts is a solid foundation for a feel-good read. The protagonist’s journey toward self-discovery and healing is relatable, and there are moments of genuine emotion.

However, the plot can be a bit predictable, and the pacing sometimes feels uneven, with certain parts dragging on longer than necessary. While the romance is sweet, it lacks the depth and spark that would make it truly stand out. Some of the supporting characters could have been better developed to add more complexity to the story. Overall, *The Second Chance Hotel* is an enjoyable, low-stakes read that offers comfort but doesn't quite deliver the emotional punch or surprises that would make it unforgettable. It’s a pleasant story for fans of lighthearted, second-chance romance, though not groundbreaking.

Amelia knew she had to get herself sorted out after she threw a mug at her ex-boyfriend/coworker’s head, which led to her getting fired from her job. True to her nature, she ran away from her problems to backpack around Europe. Meeting a stranger in Greece was the beginning of her awakening.

This story was very much an ode to Mamma Mia and would’ve been an excellent screenplay; as a book, however, it was about 50-100pgs too long. While the descriptions of the landscape, people in the town square, and various animals roaming around were extensive, the meat and potatoes of the story sometimes got buried. Amelia and James both had personal issues to resolve, and the miscommunication between them didn’t help their individual circumstances. It was hard to like either MC (mainly due to their avoidant behaviours), but the supporting cast/secondary characters made up for it.

This ARC was provided by the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

This book was simply tons of fun. It's exactly the kind of pick-me-up that will make you smile, google pictures of Greek islands, and probably watch "Mamma Mia" for the hundredth time when you turn the last page (just to keep the vibe going).

A heartwarming, feel-good novel that effortlessly blends romance, personal growth, and the charm of a small-town island setting. Inheriting a charming but rundown hotel, bringing together a quirky cast of characters and offering themes of second chances, community, and self-discovery. Godfrey's writing is engaging, filled with vivid descriptions and heartfelt moments that make you root for the characters. It's a delightful escape, perfect for anyone looking for an uplifting, cozy read with a touch of romance.

The Second Chance Hotel read like a very young YA novel. It was hard to believe that Amelia was old enough to be experiencing everything she does in this book. She comes in hard as very self-centred and fatalistic and it's very hard to shake this impression. Everything has to be about her and if it's not falling into her lap she has no idea how to handle it. Even when it does just fall into her lap she still dilly-dallies and can't make up her mind and struggles to do even the most basic of human adult things. I'm probably being unfair but sometimes characters just get on your nerves and you can't reasonably explain it.

I want to say parts of this book were worth reading but I'm struggling hard to remember if that's true or not right now...

The Second Chance Hotel by Sierra Godfrey. Pub Date: September 12, 2023. Rating: 3 stars. In this novel, a young female who works as a project manager gets let go from her current job after throwing a mug at her ex while at work. She travels to Europe and a small Greek island after this situation which sets off a whirlwind of experiences. She ultimately ends up married to someone she does not really know and co-owning a hotel. What unfolds is a lot of self discovery, finding love in unexpected places and being okay with the present. I thought this book had potential, but it was just okay for me. I found the main character to be a little selfish and difficult to relate to at times, but nevertheless I loved the setting. Thanks to #netgalley and #sourcebookslandmark for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

This story is about Amelia, a woman who finds her life in shambles after being fired from her job, takes off to Europe to get away. Along the way she meets James and they end up getting tricked into getting married and inherits a struggling hotel on a Greek island. This one just didn't grab me and I really did not like the mother (even though I wasn't supposed to). I felt like it just wasn't written well. I cringed a lot and it felt very elementary. Not my favorite.

thought this was an enjoyable book with a heartwarming ending, but it took a very long time to get there. I absolutely disliked Amelia at the beginning, she was rude and selfish and I couldn't believe she did what she did by leaving right before her best friend's wedding. After I got to know Amelia a little better, I understood some of her reactions to things, but it took much longer for her to grow a backbone, compassion, and self awareness than I would have preferred.

I didn't finish this book, because it did drag a bit, but the parts that I read (about 50%) were good and steeped with detail. It read as a typical romance novel, where the outcome seemed quite obvious, with a few twists here and there. Ultimately, it was outside of the genre of books that I normally read/review and therefore didn't pique my interest. Eventually, I felt as though I knew enough to not need to finish.

Part romantic comedy, part adventure of self-discovery and new beginnings, this follows a woman who accidentally marries a stranger and inherits a hotel while vacationing in Greece. It's an over-the-top situation, without a doubt, but so wildly entertaining and hilarious!

It sort of felt like a reverse enemies-to-lovers, with pleasantries between Amelia and James as strangers turning into heated arguments after unintentionally becoming husband and wife. The open attraction between them (James being compared to Alexander Skarsgård, I must add) made the sexual tension amidst their bickering so fun.

As the two come to terms with their (hopefully) temporary predicament, working together to improve the hotel, I loved the small Greek island atmosphere and its quirky, endearing locals. A super enjoyable story to escape into! The ending was exactly as I hoped.

This was a very enjoyable read with a great cast of characters. An epic love story that’s a bit out of order but nevertheless exciting. All wrapped up with the ending we were hoping for but exciting twists and turns until the end!

After falling in love with Godfrey’s first novel, I was so excited to pick up The Second Chance Library!

I loved the concept of this book but ultimately wasn’t wow’d by the execution! The plot moved which kept me reading but I did not feel a strong connection to the characters, I think the style of writing really deterred me from getting to fall in love with them. They lacked the substance/quirkiness that I crave in character driven novels.

Overall, an interesting read that I would recommend as a beach or vacation read but nothing earth-shattering here!

I liked the practical aspects of this book more than the romance at the heart of it. Although the overarching plot is not exactly practical, the book does deal with the small parts that make up running a hotel.
Amelia listened to her mother and found herself in a hotel that once was famous for people in love. The owners were a couple who were once able to identify those of their guests who would last and helped them on their way. When Amelia gets there, however, things are not going well. It has been a while since the hotel has seen some work done, and the takings are low. Unexpectedly, within a few days of her arrival, Amelia is found holding the keys and maybe the fate of the island along with it. She is not alone when she has left the responsibility, and the man she has to deal with is not one she expects to be attracted to. Her future is uncertain, and she works her way through all her emotions before we reach the end of the book.
I found the repetitive mentions of how Amelia could not imagine herself liking James despite his physical appearance a little off-putting but I found the book to be an easy read overall.
I would recommend it to fans of the genre.
I received an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience.

This was a great forced marriage premise story. Amelia's life is imploding, so she decides to escape to Europe. On the last leg of her tour, she decides to visit a hotel that her mother spoke about visiting with her husband, Amelia's father. There, Amelia meets James, another guest of the hotel. When the owner, knowing he is dying, leaves them as the hotel's owners, Amelia and James need to figure out the next steps. They especially need to figure out what to do with the fact that they were tricked into getting married and that they expected to be returning to their normal lives, not running a hotel in a foreign country. It's a very interesting love story with a lovely Greek backdrop.

Amelia Lang’s life took a turn for the worse in less than a week. While her ex-boyfriend and unfortunately still current coworker, Micah, definitely had a hand in that. After their breakup, Amelia had to move back in with her parents. And when an error prevented a code release at work, on Amelia’s watch, she thought her job at the San Francisco-based software company was in peril. She secured her fate when she threw a mug at Micah’s head after he made an unsavory comment about her mistake. After she packs up her belongings and makes the drive-of-shame home, she spontaneously changes her plans and reschedules a planned couples trip into a solo female trip to Paris, on the next flight out. After a few months on her European adventure, she makes her last stop before returning home - a barren hotel on a remote Greek island. She meets another solo traveler - James - and is tricked into marrying him in less than two weeks of meeting. Plus, the owner of the hotel gave them the property, transferring ownership to the newlyweds. The Second Chance Hotel by Sierra Godfrey follows Amelia’s unexpected business ownership and partnership, and whether she chooses to return home to her old life, or forge a new path that she never imagined.

Godfrey gets all the points for creating an entertaining novel with unforgettable characters.
The Second Chance Hotel was a fun and charming story that I didn’t know I wanted. James is the perfectly adorkable fake husband that any woman wouldn’t mind being stuck with. And even though Amelia has a tendency to run away from her troubles, readers will appreciate her more redeemable qualities. Whether it’s using her project management skills to improve the hotel’s profitability, or her self-confidence when it comes to men. The fact the inexperienced couple has to somehow run the hotel in a foreign country (after all, they’ve got bookings to prepare for), develop a business strategy, and refrain from jumping into bed with one another makes the outlandish circumstances that much more amusing. Add in the backdrop of beautiful olive groves on a Greek island, and readers will want to buy a plane ticket themselves.
