This sweet romance had a lot more depth than I expected, and it’s Mediterranean location was a perfect “armchair” vacation for me!

Amelia and James enter into marriage unknowingly while on vacation and become the owners of a failing Greek hotel set on a remote island. Did I mention that all the surrounding businesses depend on the hotel to survive?

Cue the hijinks. James is a bit grumpy and angsty and quite reserved while Amelia is more vibrant and outgoing. They don’t make sense on paper, but life isn’t paper, right?!

I was pleasantly surprised that this book also touched on a lot of issues such as, sexism in the workplace (especially in the tech industry), familial guilt and using children as a weapon against a former spouse, and societal expectations versus personal wants.

I really enjoyed this book, and the exotic location definitely makes this a great summer read. If you enjoy the marriage of convenience trope in your romance novels, you have to read this one!

I was given the chance to advanced review this book.

I really struggled to get in to the story but did enjoy the idea. It was possibly just the writing style that didn’t work for me.

A super cute, fast easy read. Perfect for a vacation or even just dreaming of a vacation. Sierra Godfrey takes us to a tiny Greek island to hang out with some wonderful characters. I enjoyed Kostas, Birgitte and all of the Yorgos just as much as I liked keeping up with Amelia and James.
If you are looking for a light read for the beach or the porch, this is it!

Thanks to Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Landmark for the e-Arc.

If you're looking for a super steamy version of Eat Pray Love, this book is not that. There are some steamy moments and a sex scene or two, but it isn't like a super sexy novel.

Amelia as a character just seems like someone who things happen to and like she isn't really an active participant in her own life. While this is something I can relate to, it was very annoying that so many of her problems could be solved if she would just be a better communicator. James is almost a fully fledged character except we don't really know that much about him, he's a nerd and he also left his job. I felt like more could have been done to round out the personalities of these characters, I kept wishing for more in-depth conversation at any point between the two of them. I just didn't really get butterflies or invested in their relationship.

The third act of the book was really what irked me, I don't want to spoil it, but it almost made me not finish the book. I obviously could tell what the ending would be, but it just really made me want to shout.

Other than the character flaws, I did enjoy the book. And it had one of my favorite tropes (only one bed, what will they do?). This is a cute quick read that would be perfect for a beach read or a rainy day.

Enjoyable read. 3.5 for me.

Loved the unique premise of our two main characters meeting in Greece, only to end up owning a hotel after some shenanigans. Extremely adorable and loved the premise of having to figure out how to manage and run hotels while hitting the cozy vibes of a small town to help fix it up.

I didn’t feel too much of a build-up in terms of the relationship between our characters. It felt pretty flat and anti-climatic and think there could have been more depth to the characters and emphasis on the growth of their relationship.

Amelia, fresh from a breakup and getting fired after throwing a coffee mug at her ex-boyfriend’s head (and unfortunately missing), jets off to Europe to escape her problems in San Francisco. She backs out of her best friend’s wedding for the trip, causing a major falling out between them. Running away from reality, she winds up on a remote Greek island. After too much alcohol one night, Amelia and James, the only other guest at her hotel who is nice albeit a bit boring, wake up to find that that they are married. And to make matters worse, the owner of their hotel is dead and he’s left the hotel to the new couple. Amelia and James are forced to work together to figure out how to get out of their situation. But the more time she spends on the island, the harder Amelia finds it to go back to San Francisco and leave James, and she’ll have to decide where her home truly is.

Thank you so much to @netgalley, @sourcebooks, and @sierragodfrey for the ARC! This story was an absolute DELIGHT! I devoured it over the course of an entire afternoon by the pool, which was the perfect way to read this. The plot was so cute and I really loved all of the characters (especially the multiple versions of Yorgos). The accidental marriage was hilarious, and there was a lot of great slow burn and tension building banter. The Greek island, though fictional, sounded like a dream and gave me the travel bug. I was a little annoyed with Amelia in the beginning when she blew off her friend’s wedding, but her character grew a lot and I loved her by the end of the book. The Second Chance Hotel comes out September 12!

This book really embodied Greek culture. I read this when staying at a run-down hotel on a non-touristy Greek island, so the scene was really set. It was a fun light beach read at exactly the right time.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC of The Second Chance Hotel by Sierra Godfrey.
This was a fun story with a beautiful setting that ultimately made me want to visit Greece. I really felt transported!
The main characters are well developed and I loved their interactions. The main character Amelia was very relatable and appealing. Her relationship with James had a great push-pull tension that really worked. There is also a lovable group of side characters who are locals that made the story even better.
This story has romance, friendship drama, family drama, and tons of laughs.

How could I put into words how much I adored this story? The Second Chance Hotel’s synopsis about Amelia running off to travel throughout Europe after getting fired from her job and ending up accidentally getting married and tricked into being the owner of a run down Greek hotel had me hooked.

My wanderlust ways drew me to the setting of the novel because who doesn’t want to be whisked away to a charming Greek island with its quirky yet charming residents? So when I settled into reading The Second Chance Hotel, I had an inkling that I would be delivered the perfect escapist novel and this was just that.

This book was funny, inspiring and heartwarming. The only qualm I had was that the slow burn was drawn out until almost the very end of the story. Other than that, I absolutely loved it. The secondary characters had depth and their own backstories that I appreciated reading about as it contributed to being immersed within the book. Also, I can’t gush enough about the scenery, the delicious food and the growing feelings between Amelia and James, her fellow American hotel patron/accidental husband who teaches Amelia more about herself than she realizes. Highly recommend picking this book up!

Oh, the wanderlust vibes this book gave me! Really feeling the need to find a remote Greek island and just lose myself.

I absolutely fell in love with this slow-burn live story between Amelia and James. From their accidental marriage to their inheriting a hotel and all that came between and after, I was hooked!

"That doesn’t make any sense" my first response when know about Takis plan. Well this is Asteri and everything different. I like how James and Amelia start to manage the hotel, making plan and the hard work paying off. James jealousy was cute but the doubt and doesnt want to make it complicated was anoyying. I glad Amelia face her feeling and make move.

Thank you to NetGalley for provide this book, it is pleasure to review this book.

Thank you for granting me access to this novel. The synopsis was very promising and I think it delivered on what it promised. Maybe it's my state of mind while reading but I was unable to root for the main character, also I didn't enjoy her development. But overall, it was a good read.

Thank you Netgalley and Sourcebooks Lanmark for the opportunity to review The Second Chance Hotel. This review is my honest opinion.

Amelia's life contains a lot of stress brought on by a difficult relationship with her mom, a recent breakup, getting fired from her job, and a fight with her best friend. What does one do when all of this is happening, go on a backpacking trip across Europe of course. Running away from all your troubles. At the end of her trip she finds herself on a less popular Greek Island in a very vintage hotel. Here she meets the only other guest, James, and they quickly form a friendship that may or may not turn into something stronger. They both quickly become close with the hotel owner as well. One day of drinking too much at a local wedding celebration they accidentally become husband and wife and inherit a hotel. What fun, right?! The remaining part of the story deals with how they make this new life work for them and the local town where they have made lifelong friends.

Not only is this a rom com with some laugh out loud moments, but also in my opinion a found family situation. I loved feeling like I was vacationing in Greece right along with the main characters. Enjoyed every minute of this book. Loved the setting, characters, and plot. The over-the-top characters from town are just as engaging. I highly recommend you give this one a chance. The Second Chance Hotel will be released on September 12, 2023.

Pros: My favorite part about reading this contemporary romance (forced proximity! fake relationship!) novel set on a small Greek island is that I read it while I was in Greece! It was the perfect book to read in that setting because it had a great sense of place. This was a fun and light read that is a fantastic book for vacation or by the pool.

Cons: None really. I think this book does exactly what it sets out to do. My 3.5 star rating means that I enjoyed reading the book!

The Second Chance Hotel by Sierra Godfrey is a heartwarming novel that follows the journey of Amelia Lang, a young woman who inadvertently marries a stranger in Greece and inherits a dilapidated hotel. The story is beautifully written, and the author does a fantastic job of capturing the essence of Greece and the hospitality of the locals.

From the very beginning, the novel hooks the reader with its quirky characters and an engaging storyline. Amelia's character is well-developed and relatable, making it easy for the reader to root for her throughout the novel. Her experiences and struggles with her ex-boyfriend, narcissistic mother, and her best friend will resonate with many readers who have had similar experiences.

What I love about this book is the perfect blend of humour and romance. The dialogues between Amelia and James are witty, and the chemistry between the two is undeniable. It was intriguing to watch their relationship evolve from an accidental marriage to a genuine friendship. The author builds up their romance slowly, making it believable and realistic.

The secondary characters in the book add to the charm of the story. The locals of the Greek island are quirky, colourful, and incredibly endearing. They take Amelia and James under their wings, helping them run the hotel, and guiding them through the nuances of the island life. The relationships that Amelia develops with the island's residents are beautiful, and heartwarming, and provide a sense of belonging.

Another aspect that I appreciated in the novel was the vivid descriptions of the Greek Island and its culture. The author's portrayal of Greece was realistic, and I could picture the beaches, the food, and the landscape vividly. It was almost like taking a virtual vacation while reading the book.

As the plot unfolds, the author introduces an element of conflict and tension that keeps the reader engaged. The fate of the hotel hangs in balance, and the decision to sell it or renovate it provides a central conflict to the story. The resolution is satisfying, and the ending is realistic, leaving the reader feeling content and fulfilled.

Overall, The Second Chance Hotel is an excellent book that will delight readers who love romance and stories about second chances. The book is heartwarming, engaging, and thoroughly entertaining. The characters are likeable, and the plot is well-crafted. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a feel-good novel to read.
