This second chance romance featuring Beckett from Lovelight Farms and Evelyn, the social media influencer who visited the farm for consideration for a contest she was sponsoring, is a disappointment compared with the first book in the series. It picks up months after she ghosts him a second time (the first being after their one-weekend fling). There really isn’t much of a plot to this story other than that Stella is in need of a break from her career so she can re-evaluate what she wants and to “find her happy.” Since the last place she was happy was the farm, that’s where she impulsively goes. Lo and behold, there’s no room at the Inn, so when she serendipitously runs into Beckett, he invites her to stay with him and then promptly does everything in his power to ignore her. It’s pretty clear that Beckett is autistic-coded with his aversion to noise, crowds, and verbal communication, so it’s definitely a case of opposites attract. However, the story just drags because there’s just not much going on, including any interesting conversation. (Beckett mostly just grunts for the better half of the book.)

I do appreciate the dual POV and the small-town atmosphere. They’re a mixed-race couple which, thankfully, isn’t made an issue, and their quiet acceptance of each other is sweet, but there just isn’t enough to the story to keep it interesting.

I received a complimentary ARC of this book from Berkley through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

In the Weeds is book 2 of the Lovelight Farms Series by B.K Borison. It is such a cute, sweet romance that can be read as a stand-alone.

This book is about Beckett and Evie’s happily ever after. He works at Lovelight Farms and she was a social media influencer. The first time they met they were both out of town for work where they had a fling to be remembered that ended with them both going their separate ways. What a surprise to them both when Evie was showcasing Lovelight Farms for an online contest and ran into Beckett! It was awkward for them both…but being on the farm near Beckett, Evie realized that she was not truly happy. She decided to take a break from all things social media..a break to find her happiness…but she finds a whole lot more than she anticipated!

I loved the gossipy supporting characters. I loved the cute animals and how Beckett was a sucker for them. This book was filled with great banter & lots of angst. There was great chemistry between the MC’s.

While I did enjoy this book and the characters, I felt like something was missing with the plot. Maybe it was miscommunication or rather a lack of communication. Maybe it was the 3rd act break-up. It just fell a little flat for me. That being said, I do look forward to reading the next book.

I love them so much 😭 listen this whole universe that b.k Borison has crafted will be my undoing. These characters, their love for each other, their golden little love story. I dieeee. I’m so sad we only have one more book left in this magical little world.

I really appreciated the grumpy-sunshine trope of this one - it's definitely one of my favorites to read. Borrison does a good job of expounding on Evelyn and Beckett's relationship beyond just the quintessential and predictable "grumpy" and "sunshine"; it's believable and realistic without being annoying. Where I feel this book falls short in comparison to Lovelight Farms was the pacing, particularly in the first half of the book. While it was a quick and easy read overall, I did feel like at times I was bogged down from the context rather than getting to the crux of their conflict and left with a rather unsatisfactory resolution, too. For that reason it get's a 3.5 stars from me!

This is the second book in the Lovelight series. I absolutely enjoyed Lovelight Farms so knew instantly I wanted to continue the series. I honestly really enjoyed this book and these characters.

You could technically read these books out of order, but I honestly think it’s best to read them in order… plus, Lovelight Farms was absolutely phenomenal.

Evelyn and Beckett meet in Maine at a bar. After a steamy hookup, they think they’ll never see each other again. However, Evelyn ends up at Lovelight Farms - where she went as an influencer to help out Stella (from the first book).

I honestly loved the small-town setting just as much as I loved it in the first one. It was so fun following these characters and their steamy scenes. Also, the second chance romance feeling is so strong in this one.

Just as much as I loved the first, In The Weeds was a phenomenal second-chance romance. I absolutely love everyone in this small town and the chemistry between Beckett and Evie was heartwarming in this book. I would highly recommend checking out this series!

Thank you so much NetGalley and Berkley for the review copy in exchange for my honest review!

Thank you to @netgalley & @berkleyromance for an eARC of this one! I switched between it and the audiobook! As I was reading the first book in this series I just knew which characters would be featured next and I was excited to see how things panned out! Loved this one!

This is such a cute story and I loved being on Lovelight Farms! Beckett is just the dreamiest stoic farmer and I love how he takes care of everyone he loves. Evelyn is so lovely and strong and sure of herself (even when she feels like she’s not) and they made such a dreamy pair!

I really enjoyed Lovelight Farms, and was so excited to be back in this small town of Inglewood with IN THE WEEDS. The Lovelight series focuses on three different friends who have created a business together.

This was such a cute feel-good love story, that felt like a warm hug, and I loved it!

*many thanks to Berkley Romance and Netgalley for the gifted copy

Nice guys simply do it better. This was such a cute small town romance, a perfect light read for every season! First things first, this book is just a little over 300 pages long, and all I can say is THANK GOD. I've really had enough of romance books with little to no plotline that are 500+ pages long (we all know heheh). This contained everything, them meeting, time apart, getting back together, the banter, the (infamous) 3rd act breakup (which never hits but it is what it is) and it fit the 300 page mark. CONGRATULATIONS! The writing wasn't anything worth raving about, but it wasn't bad either. Certain scenes were so funny, screenshots were made AND SAVED!

Set in the same small town of Lovelight Farms, I loved seeing this city girl relax and the country boy come out of his shell. Easily summed up in one sentence: The heart wants what the hearts wants and it is hard to tell it differently. Even if they are good for each other, it would mean giving up a part of themselves and finally having to communicate. This is nothing new, but it's an enjoyable read!

why is this series so heart-warming? 🥹 I feel like I’ve been fed warmed baked goods and given a huge hug every time I step back into the lovelight universe wow

beckett was by far my favorite character from LOVELIGHT FARMS so I was ecstatic to learn that he and evie were getting their own book! the tension between the two of them was unmatched 😮‍💨 there’s something about a sexy down-to-earth farmer that gets me I swear

not that I would ever move out to a farm but hey, that’s why it’s fictional right

evie’s story barely scratched the surface in the last book, and I loved getting to know her better outside of her work! and she fit in so well with the lovelight gang, it was if she was made for them it was so cute 🥹🥹

and I’m now completely obsessed with nova, nessa and harper too! I could read endless books about beckett’s family and their different love languages! they were the perfect counterpart to beckett’s gruff self

the third act miscommunication was completely unnecessary, per usual, and I wanted to shake them both by the shoulders and scream to just friggin talk to each other!!!!! but we have to stan bumbling idiots in love too so 🤷🏼‍♀️

I cannot wait to continue my deep dive into lovelight farms because they’re just the cutest thanks!! huge thanks to berkley and netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!

I am loving this little tree farm and its occupants.

When social media influencer Evelyn St James came to see Lovelight Farms, she was amazed by how much she loved the happy little tree farm but more shocking is coming face to face with the gorgeous man she had a one night stand with–okay, two night stand–when she was up in Maine meeting yet another amazing small business who needed to be introduced to the public.

Beckett Porter is in charge of the trees and manages the farm. Evelyn isn’t one for one night stands–yeah, yeah, two nights–but coming face to face with Beckett again throws her off her game since she would happily start again where they left off. Except as always, Evelyn is on a tight schedule and it quickly becomes time to leave the adorable town of Inglewild and Lovelight Farms and move on to the next business that needs her help.

Evie doesn’t know what is happening with her. She used to thrive on the constant travel and always meeting new people and being the one to find these little gems hiding in obscurity. But the constant travel is starting to wear on her. As her media presence and her audience grew, Evie sought help with scheduling and paying for all the travel by working with a media consulting firm. They brought in sponsors and took on the task of picking the next business that Evie would feature, but she is realizing that their big sponsor focus isn’t what she had in mind when she first started.

Evie needs a break and time to figure out what she wants to do going forward but where can she go for some peace and quiet so she can think about her future? Then she remembers the last place she felt happy–Lovelight Farms–and books a plane ticket to Maryland. Only thing is that Evie’s spotlight on Lovelight Farms has backfired and now it is such a popular place to visit that Evie can’t get a room in the local B&B or even at the shore town half hour away. Everything is booked.

Evie is disheartened. She is also pretty tired from all her traveling, when she bumps into Beckett in town. Beckett hesitates but still invites Evie to stay in one of his guest rooms until she can figure out what she wants to do. Beckett’s house feels as welcoming and comfortable as the man himself and Evie is surprised how quickly she feels at home and carves out a routine between herself and Beckett. She is also welcomed by the whole town who are happy to include Evie while she is working through what she wants to do next.

The more time she spends in Inglewild, the more Evie feels like she is being welcomed home. She can only hope that Beckett feels the same way since he is as much the reason she wants to stay–permanently– as the town itself.

THOUGHTS:
How can you not love this great big, grumpy mountain of a man? Beckett hates people but loves animals. So do we! You know you lost your heart to him when he immediately adopted the mother and kittens in Lovelight Farm. Beckett offered himself up to his little sister to practice her tattoo art with no complaint. This big man allows himself to be pushed around by all his little sisters simply because he loves them so much. How could you not fall for Beckett?

Evie is a bundle of energy that we can easily see needs to recharge and she is quickly adopted by the town. They help her recharge simply by asking her to help out, whether it is helping with a website or simply hanging a sign in the town square. In helping the others, Evie is given a break from deciding her own life as well as giving her a feeling of connection to this lovely town.

Evie shows us that sometimes attaining our dreams has drawbacks. She worked hard on her media presence trying to shine a light on wonderful, small businesses that people would love if only the word spread about them. As her account grew more popular, it became a beast she could no longer control and she asked for help from a media company and they brought in sponsors to help make the traveling easier. They also took her dream and turned it into something she no longer enjoyed. How many people seek out that kind of media exposure never realizing the hard truth that public exposure has many drawbacks? They want to live the dream of being an influencer, but there is always a downside to that kind of fame. Here Evie no longer enjoyed what her social media account had become and didn’t know what to do to save it and herself from this path she was being dragged down.

As we learn from their initial meeting, Beckett and Evie were drawn to each other from their initial meeting. Reserved Beckett never thought twice about approaching Evie and spending time with her. We absolutely see this draw when Evie returns to Lovelight Farms and moves into Beckett’s house. They are like two planets that one can’t resist the pull toward the other. It is all a matter of whether they are willing to risk the heartbreak if Evie needs to move on for her career.

I am loving this series and all these characters and I am so excited that I found my way to Lovelight Farms.

*happy sigh* The Lovelight series is quickly becoming a cozy favorite of mine. I adored Lovelight Farms when I read it last Christmas, and In the Weeds is even better! Evie and Beckett get their second chance at love, and I enjoyed their journey. Readers met Evie in the first book, as she was the social media influencer who highlighted Lovelight Farms at Christmastime. It was mentioned at that time that she and Beckett had had a steamy night together recently, which made for an awkward surprise reunion when she showed up at the farm. Just like that night in the hotel room, she disappeared on Beckett without a word after she had enough info for her piece on Lovelight Farms. In the Weeds begins with a flashback to that fateful one-night stand, where readers get all the juicy details of what happened between the two of them.

Spring has sprung in Inglewild, and I loved seeing the flowers bloom and tagging along on planting days on the farm. I’m happy to report that Beckett’s adorable kittens are still babies who rule the farm and have Beckett whipped. I fell in love with this broody farmer in the first book. There’s just something about a man who loves to rescue animals, and I suggest you prepare to melt over a sweet little duckling in this book. I enjoyed getting to know Beckett more, and I loved Evie as well! Evie is experiencing some major burnout with her job and is feeling a little lost in her life. When her assistant asks her to name the last place she felt truly happy, Lovelight Farms immediately flashed across her mind. So, of course, she returns… not really knowing why. She and Beckett run into each other right when she arrives and finds out there’s no place in the entire town for her to stay and Beckett, being the gentleman that he is, offers her one of the spare rooms in his house. She moves into his house and back into his heart. There’s so many feelings between these two, my goodness. The romance in this story feels so real and raw. It is a very slow burn, dripping with angst and I loved it. They both have a lot to work through personally, as well as together. Their nights drinking tea together on his porch, their mornings skirting feelings around the kitchen, and their not-so-secret longing for one another was delicious. I just loved watching them work through their emotions and their feelings.

Inglewild is the most amazing town. The gossip phone tree, activated when anything interesting happens, made me giggle. The supporting characters, some of whom are instrumental in getting these two together, warmed my heart. Everyone is ready, willing, and eager to lend a helping hand whenever needed, whether it be to offer baking advice or help warm someone up who fell in a freezing lake. I loved seeing Stella and Luka again, as well as Layla. These three, plus Beckett, own Lovelight Farms together and I love this supportive found family of friends. If one of them is out stress digging in the fields in the middle of the night, the rest of them will climb out of bed and bring shovels and coffee to dig together in silence. If someone is camped out on the floor of their kitchen feeling sad, at least one of them is bound to show up and sit on the floor with them. The friendships in this series make my heart ache in the best possible way.

As with the first book, I love B.K. Borison’s writing. Her descriptions of the scenery and the goings on at the farm made me feel like I was there. She writes the best love stories and characters you’re sure to fall in love with. I’ve already read the next book in this series because I could not pull myself away from this cozy world she’s created. I’d like to stay here forever!

This book made me feel all kinds of warm and cozy feelings. I loved the first book in this series and I was so excited to jump back in. Beckett is the most lovely man on the planet, and the way he cares for everyone and everything around him is so adorable to read about. I also adored Evie and her character growth through this book. Inglewild is the small town I wish existed, with its quirky residents and hilarious activity. I can’t say enough good things about this book.

Thank you to B.K. Borison, Berkley and Netgalley for a copy to review.

A kismet encounter between Evelyn and Beckett results in a weekend tryst after which Evelyn disappears without a word. Months later she unwittingly shows up at the Lovelight Farms, where Beckett works and their "missed connections" moment turns into a "secretly pinning" slow-burn romance. This book was thoughtfully written, and the characters were each given colorful families that influenced their previous life choices; it was a true pleasure to read.

Things to look forward to in this book include, an MMC whose love language is acts of service, lots of miscommunications, sharing body heat, forced proximity, smuggling of baked goods, small-town community meetings, tatted up MMC, star gazing, out-door/greenhouse steam, kittens and a baby duck......

Notes:
- "In the Weeds" is the 2nd in the Lovelight Farms series. It can easily be read as a stand-alone story.
- Beckett is identified as having problems understanding people he doesn't know well as well as significant aversion to loud noises and overall auditory processing sensitivities. (He could be read as being coded as autistic but isn't described as such.)

Note: I will be posting a review on Instagram within the next few days.

It’s a wonderful thing when the second book in a series is better than the first. Instead of the first being a fluke or a one-off, the author knows her characters, her setting, and the peripherals that will make or break believability. Despite being a slower burn than might be expected, In the Weeds, was just a good read.

The jacket description almost does a disservice to Lovelight Farms resident farmer Beckett Porter. Beckett is not just a grumpy, hot, tatted-up guy out sweating in the fields. He has a kind and sensitive soul that is finessed in Borison’s writing style. He doesn’t like crowds so it’s natural for him to be comfortable in wide open spaces. He doesn’t like to be pushed, so he doesn’t push other people. He guards his heart, but when he gives it, it’s all of it. No one is surprised that cats follow him around or sit on his shoulders.

Evelyn St. James is on the high end of social influencers with a brand and an income. She is big business. Lovelight Farms wins a social media contest, one they are excited about because it will bring much needed attention to the Christmas Tree and working farm. What Evelyn finds at Lovelight Farms isn’t just a reunion with Beckett, a one-night stand she shared months ago, but a peace and healing she’s been trying to find for a long time in a relentless business that only cares about what you do next and how quickly you can do it. Beckett, in his slow, methodical way, basically the antithesis of her regular life, allows her the time and space she needs to get there. Their journey together is lovely, funny, and sweet. I can’t wait to read number three, Mixed Signals.

My Rating: A- Enjoyed A Lot
