A high-stakes legal thriller packed with ambition, betrayal, and dark secrets. Fast-paced and twisty with a strong, determined protagonist.

A fast paced twisty read! I was hooked from the start and loved all the courtroom drama and secrets. Some parts were a little over the top but honestly it just made it more fun.

A must read! Michele Campbell is a master at her trade.

The Intern is a story about corruption and how far it can go. To police all the way to the Federal Courts.

Once you get pulled in it will take everything one has to get away………if you don’t die first.

The Intern started off really slow for me. Then it got pretty exciting around the middle but eventually slowed down and dragged towards the end. The plot was interesting enough, it just lacked a but on the execution for me.

I disliked Madison as a main character. She is an major people pleaser who is opposed to making good decisions. She is supposed to be a Harvard Law student hoping to make it as a lawyer but her character was too timid to fit the description. She takes orders from just about everybody and doesn't seen to be capable of an original thought.

Final thoughts? Meh, it's fine.

Thank you Netgalley for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Madison is a rising law student who is lucky enough to land a very difficult but coveted internship with a judge she has followed and looked up to most of her teen years. But Madison gets a lot more than she planned for when the move pulls her into the seedy life she's always railed against.

I found this tight thriller as much as compelling mystery. It felt like it was chapter after chapter of no one but the bad guys having control. It was interesting that the idea of who was a good guy definitely didn't apply to every person I thought it would and I liked that there were some gray areas to everyone in the story. The middle was harder to get through, just because of the manipulation and turns but I did love the conclusion and how it all got there.

Interesting story made all the better by a great audio narrator. The audio book was phenomenal.

A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

It was a dream of Madison Rivera's to work for the prestigious Judge Kathryn Conroy. Madison is a college student in Harvard University. She has a few skeletons in her closet, one of which her brother for one who is soon to come to trial in front of the same judge that Madison works for. Judge Conroy also has some secrets past and present. The story is both past and present as we dive into the secrets in the Judge's past as well. Kathryn and Madison become friendly and it seems odd to Madison since the Judge's reputation is more of a to her self type. Madison's brother Danny accuses everyone in the court room of corruption. Madison sets out to find the truth, is Danny right after all? Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the advance ecopy.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of The Intern by Michele Campbell in exchange for my honest review and opinion. WOW - this book started off a bit slow so I was afraid I wasn't going to like it however it picked up steam and went full throttle ahead with so many twists and turns. This was one wild ride and I loved every second of it.

This was part legal thriller, part cat-and-mouse page turner. In this story we are getting two perspectives, Madison Rivera, a Harvard Law student, and Judge Kathryn Conroy, a full-time Judge and professor at the Law School. Madison Rivera was attending law school at Harvard, when an internship with her favorite judge, Kathryn Conroy literally fell in her lap. Problem is, both the internship and the judge are worlds away from what she expected. Every chapter turned the story, and I was unsure who to trust. Whenever I thought I had it figured out, something else would get thrown in and change everything—gripping. I thoroughly enjoyed reading my first book by Michele Campbell. Many thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Michele Campbell for the opportunity.

I really enjoyed this fast-paced thriller. I was kept on my toes the whole time. After her brother is picked up by a crooked cop on drug charges, Madison a law student lands an internship with the Judge on the case tries to find a way to help her innocent brother.

Thank you to netgalley for an arc.

This book did not do it for me. I had to DNF it. It was slow and nothing was happening. I only made it about 75 pages in

I love a legal thriller that engages readers amidst some intrigue and a good moral dilemma. In this regard, Michele Campbell delivered. It reminded me a bit of Stacey Abrams' recent thrillers, in a good way.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me.

This book took me on quite a suspenseful ride. There were twists and turns and I love how the author was able to bring in small doses of the unknown, weaving together different character's storylines. It was engaging, kept me wondering and wanting more. I had a hard time necessarily connecting to Madison's character because her "secrecy" felt like it was not relatable in the world she was going into. It fit the storyline, but was harder to make her a likable character and one that you felt for. It was definitely full of unexpected moments, but also ones that just seemed unbelievable as well, which was a deterrent at points. However, I enjoyed the cat and mouse game and the judge and Madison's overlapping of lives.

I really enjoyed this book! It has me in its grip from the first chapter, and had some surprising twists. Like the opening line suggests, it really is about class, ambition, and family. Would highly recommend if you want a light thriller for the fall. It also takes place in Boston which was a great setting IMO.

DNF at 20% I unfortunately found this both boring and unrealistic. a shame because I've liked this author in the past.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.

This book was a wild ride. It follows Madison Rivera, a Harvard Law student, and Kathryn Conroy, a judge who is also a Harvard alumna, as they get tied up in espionage, corruption, drugs, and murder. Everything about this book seemed like something I would enjoy. It is a dual POV with both of the main characters being female. However, and this could very well be a personal problem, having gone to law school and focusing on criminal law made it so difficult for me to pull myself out of this book to overlook glaring errors. This book is a fun time, the same way watching police procedurals is a fun time. It was suspenseful. It was thrilling. It was everything I wanted it to be. It was just also inaccurate to the legal system in enough ways that I couldn't fully suspend my disbelief. Which is wild considering she has a background in the law! Maybe it's just me - maybe I didn't get the memo about all of the corruption where I was working. Regardless, it's a me issue with being unable to suspend belief. I still recommended this book to so many people, and I fully intend to read it again. I currently have my retired judge grandfather, as well as a few lawyer aunts and uncles, reading this & fully intend to have a family discussion over this book. 3.5/5

I read tend to enjoy Michele Campbell’s books. She’s a lawyer and smart, so it’s so fun to dive into her thrilling novels. What I really loved about The Intern was how compelling I found the story to be. I could really feel Madison’s tension and anxiety as she went into her interview with Judge Conroy ready to tell the truth about her brother, but instead delved into a series of lies.

I found bits of the story entirely unrealistic and most of those are deep spoilers I don’t want to dive into in this review. But I will say the entire arrangement between Madison and Kathryn seemed unlikely to happen. I mean, maybe it could? It just seemed to cross so many boundaries between a student and professor. I guess weirder things have happened in real life.

As the story went on, I really sympathized with Kathryn’s situation. It was horribly sad. But it also seemed so off-the-wall to me.

A slight spoiler: I was glad to see how things ended with the cat. It left me feeling satisfied with the ending overall.

This tangled web of secrets and corruption was a great read! I was captivated as this character driven legal thriller slowly unwound. I finished this one in a day.

Madison Rivera has just secured an internship with the renowned Judge Kathryn Conroy. However, she soon realizes that Judge Conroy is the same judge presiding over her brother Danny's case. Madison is now faced with a dilemma - should she reveal the truth to the judge and risk losing the internship opportunity of a lifetime, or keep it a secret in the hope that Judge Conroy might be able to help her brother's case? But things take a sudden turn when Danny disappears from prison, and Judge Conroy is accused of corruption. What will Madison do?

A fast-paced thriller that delves into the complex and murky world of the justice system. It explored the themes of deception, corruption, and abuse of power. While Intern is an engaging book overall, I believe that Madison's character could benefit from further development compared to the well-crafted character of Judge Conroy. Madison, as a protagonist, has the potential to be a compelling and complex character, but her portrayal in the novel feels somewhat superficial. There are glimpses of her inner struggles and motivations, but they are not fully explored or fleshed out when compared to Jude Conroy.

All in all, an entertaining read. Perfect for fans of legal thrillers.
