4.5 ⭐️ Wow this book was good it kept me guessing and I never knew who to believe . Sometimes with so many characters it did get a little complicated to keep things straight and remember whose side they are on . Overall I loved the storyline and it kept me engaged the whole way to through.

The Intern by Michele Campbell is a fantastic thriller that I had a hard time putting down. When I had to do other things I was constantly thinking about the book and what was going to happen to the main characters. It is gripping from the start and it ramps up the further you read. Madison Rivera is a young law student at Harvard. She has always looked up to Judge Kathryn Conroy as she attended the same high school as Madison, attended Harvard Law, and had been so successful in her career. Madison wanted to be just like her and Judge Conroy has motivated her for years. Madison was in Judge Conroy's class at Harvard and had the Judge's respect for being a great student. Judge Conroy taught one class at Harvard this semester.

Judge Conroy tells Madison she's lost an intern and that she should apply for the spot. Madison is so excited and wants the position, but she's hiding a secret. Madison's brother, Danny, has been arrested on a serious drug charge that he says he's innocent of. Danny is now in prison. Judge Conroy was the judge who heard Danny's case and decided his fate. She didn't have a lot of choice as Danny plead guilty. When Madison and her Mom go to the prison to visit Danny he tells them that his lawyer was in on the set-up and so was Judge Conroy. Madison doesn't believe it and tells Danny that he knows the judge and that she wouldn't do that.

Madison keeps it concealed that she has a brother because it would look bad for her at Harvard now that he's in prison. Madison decides to apply for the intern position with Judge Conroy, but she won't divulge that she has a brother. She'll try to work behind the scenes to get more information about Danny's case. Madison gets the position and is thrilled to be working with the woman she so admires. Madison's mom calls soon after in a panic as she went to visit Danny at the prison and he wasn't there! No one could tell her where he was! How can that be possible? Where is Danny? Was Danny telling the truth? Was he set-up? Who was behind it and why?

As Madison gets closer to Judge Conroy she realizes that there's more to her than meets the eye. She seems afraid, but why and of who? When Madison agrees to pet sit for the judge things become clear as to why Judge Conroy is afraid. Someone starts banging on the door in the middle of the night and sets off the house alarm. Madison can see him through the cameras and calls the judge for advice on what to do? Why did Judge Conroy lure Madison here, get her to agree to petsit her cat, and then leave quickly 10 minutes later? Why was she in such a hurry and where was she going? Madison is terrified after being woken by the house alarm and doesn't really want to stay any longer.

Judge Conroy is hiding a lot from Madison. Is Judge Conroy setting Madison up? Is the Judge really on the take like her brother thinks? Can Madison trust Judge Conroy to help her if she shares about Danny? Madison's mother is so distraught that she's having panic attacks and chest pains. Will she be okay? Will they find Danny before it's too late? Why was Judge Conroy's husband murdered? Who would do that? Why haven't they solved the case? The same people that investigated his murder are the same people who arrested Danny. Is it a coincidence? Will Judge Conroy tell Madison what's really going on?

The Intern is a fantastic book that I rate 5 stars with my highest recommendation. I couldn't read the book fast enough towards the end. The Intern comes out on October 3. I'd like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced copy of The Intern in exchange for a fair review. #TheIntern

I’ve been reading Michele Campbell books for the last few years. The Intern was another great thriller, full of suspense and questions. A law student gets in too deep while digging in to the her brothers case while interning for the federal judge, one on his case.
The Intern kept my interest trying to figure out what was coming next. I liked the way it was written from both the intern and the judges perspectives and it gave the back story which made me even more invested in the outcome of this mystery novel.

➡️THOUGHTS:
This was a fast paced thriller! I absolutely enjoyed it! In this legal thriller we have Madison’s POV: a Harvard law student who was offered an interning job with her idol, Judge Conroy, and Kathryn’s: the judge with a secret past and wishy washy present trying to save herself. Madison soon finds out her dream internship is nothing that she could have imagined and she is in way over her head. When he brother is arrested for felony drug charges, with Conroy as his judge, she starts to find discrepancies in the case, and the judge’s character.

I definitely wanted to keep reading to see how the story would play out. I liked how everything ended, although the story could have been a tad shorter. Overall, this is a solid story that will keep you reading til the very end!

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Madison Rivera lands her dream internship working for Judge Kathryn Conroy. However, her career is threatened before it can even begin when her brother, Danny, is arrested and the judge is her new boss. To make matters worse, Danny accuses Judge Conroy of corruption and promptly disappears. Madison finds herself over her head as she seeks to uncover the truth and find her brother.

THE INTERN was an entirely different read that I anticipated and I LOVED IT. Admittedly, it took some time to get into but I was hooked from the 25% mark onwards. The story was told from the POV of Kathryn and Madison, who were incredibly strong and impressive in their own ways. However, I was more captivated by Kathryn’s story. The plot was INCREDIBLE! THE INTERN was super fast-paced and featured the most plot twists I have ever seen in a book! If you’ve been considering reading this one, this is your sign to read it immediately!

The first 50% of this book was so slow for me I almost DNF’d it. Then it swung into full gear. I enjoyed the middle of it. It was fast paced & full of action. It had me wondering who was actually a “good guy” & who was a “bad guy”. But the ending fell short for me. I feel awful because I have seen so many people give this one 5 stars. I just didn’t love it.

The Intern by Michele Campbell hooked me from the very beginning, with a synopsis that promised a thrill-ride, and it never let me go. Reading it in one day was quite an intense experience!

I especially liked that there were multiple 'bad guys' and the reader doesn't really know who has actual bad intent and who just appears to be rotten. Judge Conroy is a prime example, is she corrupt or has she been forced to do things to survive? Her back story is told in segments that bring the reader to a better understanding of her actions and motivations, making her a more sympathetic character than my initial impressions.

Madison's character was a bit of a stretch for my taste--as a law student, I didn't buy the instant trust that Judge Conroy placed in her, and the judge's lack of knowledge of the brother's existence. It just seemed a little strange that in the world that she existed within, that she would just move an intern into her house for a weekend without a thorough background check.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good legal thriller with lots of suspense. Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the digital ARC of The Intern by Michele Campbell. The opinions in this review are my own.

Madison, a Harvard law student, idolizes the charismatic Judge Katherine Conroy and has finally made it into her circle. Is it just a coincidence that Madison Rivera is offered a coveted internship under Judge Kathryn Conroy? Betrayal, corruption and lies emerge as the story explores the cost of owing someone a favor and how our accomplishments can be our own trap. 5 enthusiastic stars!

The Intern by Michele Campbell is a fantastic psychological thriller that I loved.

A cat and mouse game between a law student and a judge.

The characters are well written and fleshed out.

There are so many twists and turns that I really was guessing the whole time.

A great perfectly paced story.

The Intern is a fast-moving thriller involving a law student and her professor, who is a federal judge. There are a lot of secrets in this story. Madison, the law student, is ecstatic at being given the chance to be an intern for Judge Kathryn Conroy. The only problem is that her brother has been arrested (he’s innocent, he says) and Conroy has the case. So Madison conveniently omits the fact that she even has a brother in her conversations with the judge and in her employment paperwork. You just know that’s going to come back to haunt her! The book flips between the present day and some chapters detailing Conroy’s backstory. I won’t be more specific, but there are some major issues in her background. The story has a lot of twists, some of which I anticipated, but that didn’t spoil my enjoyment. This was my first book by this author, who has a background in law, so those sections felt quite realistic.

I bounced between the audiobook and the ebook for this title, which was very convenient. The audiobook was narrated beautifully by Sarah Mollo-Christensen. A minor complaint: she didn’t utilize any New England/Boston accents, even though most of the characters are native to Boston. I found that a bit jarring, being familiar with that regional accent.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of this book and to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advance copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.

I wanted to love The Intern by MIchele Campbell and enjoyed the first twenty five percent of the novel. However; afterwards I found the storyline to go downhill and nothing was truly surprising or shocking. I look forward to seeing what debut author Campbell publishes next, as she does have potential.

3.5 stars rounded up.

When Madison lands an internship with her idol, Judge Conroy, she thinks this could be the springboard for her future. But when she realizes her brother is currently being wrongfully-charged in a big drug case under Conroy’s court, Madison must uncover how far the corruption goes to save her brother and herself.

THE INTERN by Michele Campbell was definitely a fast-paced cat and mouse thriller!

I found myself, like Madison, also captivated by Judge Conroy and her backstory - her POV and storyline were my favorite when it came down to the storytelling in this book!

However, Madison, a second-year Harvard law student (top of her class mind) is so incredibly naive and seems to have an unwavering belief in the justice system that I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. On top of that, she didn’t grow up well-off, which made this naivete feel even more profound.

If Madison’s characteristics were shifted a bit, I think I would have enjoyed this one a lot more.

The story is told from two points of view. They are those of the young intern Madison, and the Judge Kathryn. The author also allows for the characters to go back in time to give the readers perspective on how they have arrived at their current situations. It is a mesmerizing story that will keep you entertained and turning the pages to see what each of the characters including Madison and Kathryn will do next. The suspense and surprises keep coming all the way to the very last page.

This was a very twisted book - in terms of the web spun between the characters. It reminds me of a complex soap opera - I have a love/hate relationship with it. I didn't like any of the characters, but I think that's the point in all honesty. The worst part is that the plot is so realistic - the corruption feels so real.

While that all sounded so negative, trust me it wasn't. A good thriller needs these elements.

The Intern is masterfully written, perfectly paced and addictive! I LOVE a thriller with with dual POV, and Kathryn’s point of view was really compelling in particular. She has faced a lot of difficulties in her life and she as a very well developed character! I connected with her instantly.

The twists and things that are revealed in The Intern were shocking without being unbelievable. That is my biggest complaint with this genre, shocking plot revalations that are just for the shock factor and do not make sense. The way Michelle weaved this story has solidified me as lifelong fan.

Thank you to Netgalley for my advance copy! I was super stoked! I have enjoyed Campbell in the past. This story is in similar vein to her previous work. It is fast paced, suspenseful and great entertainment. Told from two POVs, Madison and Kathryn. I enjoyed both characters and the development was done really well!

This is your typical cat and mouse scenario. I thought it might have been a bit “predictable” but I enjoyed the entertainment of it and the drama that was mixed with the suspense. Plus anything law related is a bonus for me due to my own personal paycheck lol

The Intern immediately immersed me and held my attention until the very last page. So much about this story reminds me of John Grisham’s early books but in a more contemporary time. I absolutely loved that about it. This is the first book I’ve read by Campbell, and I look forward to reading many more.

Starting with the end, I want to say how surprising it was and how much I absolutely loved it. But that’s the only thing I will say about the ending. To learn more, you will have to read the book yourself.

The pacing (fast), level of suspense, and narration are superb. The narration is third-person focused and switches between Madison (the intern) and Kathryn (the judge) in large sections. At first, I questioned the inclusion of Kathryn’s sections. It provides the backstory, but I thought I got enough of that from the current timeline telling. I grew to understand why it is included in the second section of it, and I now believe that its inclusion is pure genius.

Lastly, the character development is terrific, and considering the moral grayness and not-so-grayness of literally everybody, it’s an essential attribute. The story is more character-driven, and the complexities of what makes Kathryn and Madison tick are revealed layer after glorious layer. I might be unable to relate to them, but I felt I could fully understand them.
