If you were a fan of the shows The Shield or How to Get Away with Murder, this is the book for you. What starts our as a simple internship for a law student evolves into a tangled webs of corruption & duplicitousness. This story begs to ask the question, how far down the rabbit hole will you go to protect the ones you love?

This was my first book by this author, but it definitely won’t be my last. This is a fast paced legal thriller centering around two main characters, a judge and an intern. Madison is a Harvard law student struggling to survive law school, pay her bills, and try to rise to the top. Yet her past keeps threatening to bring her down. As she’s nearing finals her mom calls her and begs her to help her brother who is in jail having legal problems again. Except this time when Madison goes to visit him he swears he is innocent and blames a corrupt lawyer and judge, who is none other than Madison’s professor whom she has admired for years. Madison works to get close to her, securing an internship with her, and that is when things start to get interesting. The book switches back and forth between Kathryn (the judge) and Madison (the interns) point of view taking the reader through a fast paced interesting thriller that keeps you guessing. The plot was so well thought out, and there were so many amazing connections and twists and turns that I did not see coming. A really well written and planned out story, with a satisfying ending. I received an ARC, and this is my honest review.

I enjoyed the dual POVs of Madison and Kathryn and how their characters and their similarities meshed together. The circumstances surrounding the dark web they get caught in maintained so much tension and drove the twisted plotting. I would definitely recommend this book and I’ll look for more of this author’s titles.

A well written, easy, quick read. Lots of intrigue and twists. The Intern sheds interesting insights into the world and pressures of law school, and the potential for corruption to derail people working within the legal system. ….kinda makes you stop and wonder! I liked it.
Thank You to NetGalley, St Martin’s Press, and Michele Campbell for the opportunity to enjoy this ARC.

Madison, a Harvard law student, idolizes the charismatic Judge Katherine Conroy and has finally made it in to her circle. As Madison delves into the judge's alluring yet treacherous world, secrets emerge and nothing is as it seems. It was really fun to see this relationship between Madison and Kathy play out. I was on the edge of my seat, constantly questioning the true motives of the characters.
This book explores the fine line between trust and betrayal, and the lengths people are willing to go to protect themselves and their family. A wonderful legal thriller that will keep readers guessing until the final page.

Madison is a law student and lands a prestigious internship with Judge Kathryn Conroy. But Madison has a secret and it could ruin her career before it starts. Her younger brother has been arrested, and Judge Conroy.

When Madison’s brother goes missing, Madison sets off to hunt him down. She ends up confiding in the judge, who tells her she can’t help. Madison can’t quite figure out if the judge is her mentor, her friend, or a victim herself, except she does know someone is trying to kill her. Will they be able to figure this cat and mouse game out before someone ends up dead.

This was such a wonderful legal thriller. It has some really entertaining twists that I didn’t see coming. My issue was with the plot pacing. It would go fast, then slow, then fast, then slow. SO it was uneven and I struggled with this. The writing was wonderful. The characters were great and I enjoyed getting to know them. I loved how the characters were morally grey in such realistic ways. This was one I didn’t want to put down but kept getting hunh up on the uneven pacing. I loved how the story was told from both Kathryn and Madison perspectives and that there weren’t too many side characters to figure out. They all worked nicely. I loved the ending so much. It perfectly tied things together and gave me all the feel-good feelings.

If you are looking for a legal thriller with fun mob ties, then check this one out.

This was…fine. It started off relatively strong but started to drag as it went on. By the time I was almost done, I was definitely ready for it to be over.

This was a fun one. It’s a game of cat
& mouse…spy versus spy…where no one knows who they can trust.

I really liked the main character Madison and how the story developed between Madison and Kathy.

I couldn’t imagine being stuck in a situation like Kathy or Madison. Each person had a different role to play to someone else…someone they’d do anything for and that, well…it complicates things.

This one wasn’t my fav by this author but it was still good. I just didn’t like the Harvard / Judge angle as much as I liked A Stranger On The Beach. I just liked that premise better. Total preference thing for me.

I def recommend this one.

DNF at 35 percent. I love legal thrillers so I was so excited to read this one. Unfortunately, the writing style just did not work for me. The dialogue felt cheesy and it seemed like it had too much going on and it made it confusing. There is also a weird amount of mentions of things like food delivery services and it just took me out of the story.

Thanks netgalley for a copy of THE INTERN.
I actually forgot how much I enjoy Michele Campbell's writing style, and The Intern did not disappoint. I love the main characters and found myself rooting for both of them. Totally kept me guessing who was the "bad guys". 5 stars.

I flew through this fast-paced legal thriller in just under 24 hours. This one clipped along at a nice pace, keeping me engaged as we alternated between Kathryn's past and Madison's future. There were many layers and players to navigate through, but Campbell did a wonderful of keeping everything clear and concise. The story was well constructed with plenty of twists and turns to keep me engaged and turning the pages quickly.

OH THIS WAS TOOOO GOOD! Totally didn't expect some of the twists and sudden plot points and that's what I loved about it! When things get too predictable, it just makes me DNR it, but this one.....had to finish it ASAP.

Madison Rivera is a Harvard Law Student who has just taken on an internship working in the chambers of Federal Judge Kathryn Conroy. Coincidentally, Madison's brother has been arrested in a drug bust and the case has been assigned to the Judge Conroy. Madison is at a crossroads, lie/withhold the truth from her new boss, or try to help her brother. Her decisions will bring her into an awkward position where she learns of dirty cops and organized crime, but she's not sure who she can trust.

This book is told in 2 points of view - that of Judge Conroy and of Madison. There are many similarities in their upbringings and their family situations which draws interesting parallels between the two. As the perspective changes, so does the story leaving us not quite sure what the truth is. This was a fast paced legal thriller with a small cast of characters that was easy to keep straight. I couldn't stop turning pages and read this one in 2 sittings. I continue to be a fan of Michele Campbell's work!

*I was provided an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

The Intern follows the story lines of Madison Rivera, Harvard Law student and federal court intern, and Judge Kathryn Conroy, Madison's professional idol and law professor. The two women each have reasons for seeking the other out, and what ensues is a game of cat-and-mouse with each of them angling to get what they want amid a sea of dangers out to get them both.

This book was a page-turner with multiple twists along the way. I like how you think you know the situation and then there's a flashback to Kathryn's life and you realize you don't know who's really the "good guy" and the "bad guy" anymore -- nothing is crystal clear. Both women are human, looking out for their best interests, and to do so even the best humans have to make bad decisions. The book was part mystery which is unravelled as you go, but also a tense thriller as you figure out who is out to get whom, and how all the characters interconnect. I thought it was a clever premise and conclusion! This book would be great for anyone who likes crime dramas, but also strong female characters and plot that sweeps you up and carries you to the end. It was hard to put down!

I love everything that I have read by Michelle Campbell. This one is no exception. The understory that connects the Madison and Judge Conroy is compelling and the twists keep coming.

This book was a thrilling ride thru the court process. I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns. The mob, law enforcement, the judge, attorneys... is EVERYONE on the take? Unraveling the layers of deception and murder over decades provides a non stop adrenaline risk to the reader. I couldn't put it down. A MUST READ and a new favorite author of mine. Please excuse me while I go buy all of her other books now.

Madison Rivera is a Harvard Law student in Judge Kathryn Conroy’s class. When the judge extends an offer of an Internship to her, Madison can’t believe her good luck! There is only one problem: Madison’s brother Danny has been arrested for drug charges, and Judge Conroy is the judge on his case. Danny swears he is innocent and that Judge Conroy is involved in some corruption. At first, Madison refuses to believe her mentor could be a criminal, but as she grows closer to the judge, she quickly realizes everything isn’t as it seems.

What a fun and fast-paced thriller! I was immediately rooting for both Madison and Kathryn. Even though they were at odds at some points, I wanted them both to succeed! As their stories unfolded, the dual points of view showed just how similar these two women were. Their relationship grew out of necessity but a bit of loyalty too as their lives became more intertwined. I found myself getting tears in my eyes towards the end because I just loved them so much! This was definitely a book I didn’t want to end. With well-developed characters and a well-executed and exciting plot, this may very well be one of my favorite reads this year!

Madison started her internship working for Judge Conroy while hiding a secret about her brother. As the story unfolds, the reader finds that Judge Conroy has a secrets as well. The book is told in the POVs of Madison and Judge Conroy (Kathryn). It discusses past and present as well as developing strong characters in Madison and Kathryn. I loved Michele Campbell's other novels so much, I could not wait to begin this one! Fast Paced, Surprising, and Strong Characters! 3.5 stars

Thanks so much to NetGalley for the advanced copy!

I received an e-ARC from @stmartinspress on @netgalley I'm exchange for my honest review and here goes nothing:

I have a hard time reviewing this book because I didn't like it, but I was entertained.

The Intern is a legal thriller centered around Harvard Law student Madison Rivera and her professor/role model Judge Kathryn Conroy. This book is split between POVs for both women. The characters and the plot feel cheesy, juvenile, and like stock characters. The only ones with real backstory and development are the villains and Kathy.

I almost DNF'd this book because it was quite fast paced and felt immediately predictable. There were more layers than I had intially thought once we got into Kathy's point of view so I become more forgiving and more interested.

I'm glad I finished it, this book wraps up nicely. It just didn't feel very original. I would recommend this to someone for a read on a short flight just to get your thriller fix in.
