4.5 stars, rounded up.

Michele Campbell does it again. She's definitely an auto-read author for me without a doubt.

This is told through the POVs of Kathy, a prominent judge, and her new intern, Madison. Which I absolutely loved because you get to know both characters so much better. You get to see just how similar and connected they truly are....

If you're looking for a heart-stopping legal thriller you will not be able to put down, this one is for you! I read it in one sitting, I could not stop...and didn't! Add in some family drama and some twists I did not see coming at all and it can't get much better!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Two strong women at odds with each other come together in the legal thriller, The Intern. Author Michele Campbell weaves a story of intrigue and danger that includes corruption, greed, ambition, and family drama.

A prominent judge and her intern have ulterior motives when working together. Madison Rivera admires Kathryn Conroy, a prominent judge, and her law professor. She applies for the judge’s internship to free her brother Danny from jail, as Kathryn is the assigned judge on his case. And Kathryn needs someone to watch her cat so she can get away. But as Madison becomes more involved with Kathyrn, she discovers she is only a pawn in the judge’s mysterious circumstances and shady past. But both women are thrust into a dangerous world beyond their control.

I loved this suspenseful novel told from two points of view, with complicated character backstories, proving nothing is black or white. I want to read more of Michele Campbell’s novels. I thank NetGalley for allowing me to read and review The Intern. #NetGalley #TheIntern #legalthriller

This is a fast paced read, which I loved. I was instantly hooked by both Kathryn and Madison points if views. It started off strong and I was loving it, however 60% in I felt as though the story became repetitive and began to drag a bit. Overall it was a good read.

Pub date: 10/3/23
Genre: legal thriller
Quick summary: Harvard law student Madison is dealing with her brother's drug arrest when she gets the chance of a lifetime - an internship with judge Kathryn Conroy. Until it turns out the judge has plenty of problems of her own...

I've read a lot of thrillers, but this plot felt unique! I enjoyed getting to know both Madison and Kathryn (as well as all their problems), and Campbell kept up the suspense and drama! I ended up reading this book in less than a day because I had to know how it would all turn out. Plus the Cambridge/Boston setting was a bonus - it took me back to my grad school days. This is a strong 4 star thriller, and it would be a great book to read under a blanket during the fall/winter!

Thank you to St. Martin's Press for providing an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a good thriller, with sections alternating POVs. There were a few times while reading this that I was creeped out, but also a few times where I could have teared up a bit. I don't usually like mob/mafia stories, but this one drew me in more than some others I've read. Thanks to Netgalley for the digital ARC.

I really enjoyed following Madison and Judge on this journey. The story was interesting enough to keep me reading with just a couple of minor details keeping me from giving it 5 stars. We have all read those authors who makes rush home from work just to finish another chapter. I didn't get that pull from this one. The biggest factor to this was that it was all conveniently resolved in the last ten pages. Still, overall it was very well written and significant enough of a storyline for me to want to finish it.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this e ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book is for you!

I loved everything about this book. I opened this book today and read it in one sitting. This is my first book by Michele and this will surely not be my last. So many twists and turns throughout and I enjoy a book that keeps me thinking and wondering — this had that.

We follow MC Madison who gets her dream internship working at a judges office and when we brother seems to be framed on drug charges, we watch her try to figure out who is behind it (the judge seems to possibly be behind it).

All of the characters in this book are so well written and fun to watch grow and interact together in this incredible storyline/plot. Such a fun edge of your seat read! The ending will have your jaw dropped. I never guessed the ending. I absolutely recommend this book.

Thank you so much to St. Martin's Press for the chance to read and review this book prior to release.

As a fan of Michele Campbell's book ITS ALWAYS THE HUSBAND, I jumped on the chance to read this one! I love the cover and the premise promised a fun and exciting thriller.

I was initially hooked by this one and couldn't put it down! I loved Madison and the storyline between her mom and brother. I was totally on board until roughly 80% and then things became a little too convenient for me. The ending was overall okay, but a little too neat and tidy for my personal liking, meaning things came together out of nowhere and it didn't seem natural.

Overall, I definitely think this one is still worth the read!

This will be available for purchase on Oct 3rd!

I’ve enjoyed Campbell’s other books that I’ve read and The Intern started off strong, but unfortunately was a DNF for me. I lost interest once the POV switched to Kathryn and couldn’t stay engaged with the book anymore. I was also expecting it to be more shocking and overall from the 35% that I read, did not find it to be much of a thrilling thriller.

Thanks @netgalley for read number 87 of 2023. I always love @michelecampbellbooks’ novels, and this one was no exception. There were great twists throughout, and while I anticipated one, there were many I did not. The end made me all teary-eyed too. A ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 read. Highly recommend. #avivaandfriendsrecos

This book reminds me of a first author debut novel. There’s a lot going on in this and if you’re not paying attention you may miss a relationship between characters that is important later.

While I enjoyed the dual points of view this was overall a bit busy of a book for my personal taste.

3.5 rounded up to 4. I love Michele Campbell, I have been anxiously awaiting for a book from her for a couple of years! So I dropped everything to read this one. Unfortunately, I think this was my least favorite book by her. The first half was really hard for me to get into and towards the middle/end I was just reading just to finish. This one took me a few months to finish because I had put it to the side. As for the characters and saving grace for me, my favorite character was Lucy by far! I bumped this up from a 3.5 to a 4 because I appreciated the ending and cared more about the main characters towards the end of the book. I would recommend It's Always the Husband or She Was the Quiet One if you want to read a Michele Campbell book far before this one.

Michelle Campbell is an Author to add to your favorites list! This story had my interest from the beginning! Madison Rivera seems like a character that is very easy to relate to. A law student with a secret who really admires Judge Kathryn Conroy!
I felt like the plot and setting really grabbed my attention first but the character development is really what stayed with me afterward. This book dives into the grey areas between right and wrong and twists them inside out! Very good and I do recommend!

I enjoyed Michele Campbell’s The Wife Who Knew Too Much and The Intern is another good one. It’s a dream come true for Harvard law student Madison Rivera when she gets an internship with her idol Judge Kathryn Conroy. Unfortunately for Madison, her younger brother Danny is arrested and his case will be heard by Judge Conroy. Danny mysteriously disappears after claiming Judge Conroy is corrupt and it’s up to Madison to get to the truth. This is a fast-paced, well-written psychological thriller and I look forward to reading more of Michele Campbell’s books. Thanks to #netgalley #stmartinspress and #michelecampbell for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have been a big fan of Michele Campbell ever since reading her very first novel in my pre-bookstagram/pre-social media days. I have always jumped at the chance to read a digital ARC of her upcoming books, and this one was no exception. When I saw that Michele Campbell had a new book coming out, I immediately knew that I wanted to read it; I didn't even look to see what the synopsis was about before hitting "Request" on Netgalley. Madison is a law student at Harvard who just landed the internship of her dreams with Judge and Professor Kathy Conroy. She is beyond excited to work alongside her idol, but there is just one minor complication: her brother, Danny, has recently been convicted of drug possession and sentenced to prison, and his lawyer has ties with Conroy. Danny claims he is innocent and was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Madison quickly gets in over her head when she realizes that Conroy is also hiding some secrets of her own, putting Madison and her family in harm's way. Madison sees the internship with Judge Conroy as a potential way to help her brother overturn his conviction. The story goes back and forth between the past and present; the past focusing on Judge Conroy's upbringing and childhood and all the dirty lawyers and men who were a part of it. The readers learn how Conroy has gotten to where she's at and just how tangled up in dirty dealings she really is. You're left trying to figure out if Madison will help Judge Conroy or turn against her, and wondering what you would do in a similar situation. There were parts that were fast-paced, and other parts that took their time telling a story of survival, which I found to be a good balance in the story. There were a lot of strong female characters in the story: Madison, Judge Conroy, Madison's mom, Kathy's mom, and more. You see the mother/daughter relationship touched upon and I did find myself rooting for all of them. I like the Madison was (mostly) a character of integrity; she was a part of a few sketchy things, but overall, I felt like she stuck to her guns and remained loyal to those that she should have, including her brother, Danny. This was a solid procedural that I really enjoyed! Thank you to the publisher, St. Martin's press, for giving me the chance to read an early digital copy of The Intern!

I’m a huge fan of Michele Campbell’s work and immediately put in a request to read her upcoming novel, THE INTERN. I enjoyed the premise of an intern working for a high profile judge, who may or may not be involved in shady dealings, particularly one that is close to home. The suspense factor was cranked up the entire time, as she becomes intertwined in the judge’s life, and quickly dismissing her own safety for… justice! I was pleasantly surprised by the POV of the judge and it helped steer the story and give the judge some personality and perspective. Overall, a quick read with some surprises thrown in that will delight you.

NO spoilers here. The following is my opinion/thoughts and not a synopsis of the book. The Intern by Michele Campbell was NOT at all what I was expecting. It can best be characterized as a suspenseful sort of legal thriller. There aren’t any court room cases but the characters either work in the legal system or are training to be. I definitely was on the edge of my seat with this one. And it really made me think, does this really happen? Either way, I enjoyed this book but would say I liked her others better. I always read It’s Always the Husband and The Wife Who Knew Too Much and would recommend those first if you haven’t read any of Campbell’s books.
