I'm completely engrossed in Michele Campbell's novel, The Intern. Madison Rivera, a determined law student, finds herself in a precarious situation when she lands an internship with her idol, Judge Conroy. The catch? Madison's brother, Danny, is facing a trial presided over by Judge Conroy, and he goes missing after accusing her of corruption. As Madison delves deeper into the judge's world, she's torn between loyalty to her brother and the allure of her promising career. But there's more at play here—is Judge Conroy a mentor, a victim, or a criminal? And why is someone trying to kill her? The tension builds as Madison and the judge engage in a dangerous game of cat and mouse, forcing them to question who they can trust and if they can save each other from betrayal.

Madison's moral dilemma adds a compelling layer to the story. Despite numerous opportunities to come clean, she chooses to withhold the truth to protect her career aspirations. While I understood her motives, it was hard not to see her self-interest as well. As the plot unfolds, the parallels between Madison and Judge Conroy's upbringings are revealed, forming an unusual bond between them. However, both women are flawed, impulsive, and prone to making questionable choices, which led me to shake my head in disbelief at times. The alternating perspectives between Madison and the judge, along with the shifts between past and present, create an engaging narrative that keeps you hooked.

The Intern is a fast-paced and gripping read, laced with lies, corruption, and a touch of a mob-like atmosphere. I extend my gratitude to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Instagram post will be linked closer to pub date!

The Intern is a super fast paced thriller that has dual POV and shows flashbacks to the past. I absolutely loved the premise of this one and couldn’t wait to pick it up!

One of our main characters is attending law school at Harvard and she’s loving it, especially when she takes a class taught by one of her idols, a Judge named Kathy. We also get a POV from Kathy who has a lot more going on than meets the eye. Is the Judge corrupt? Why is she acting so weird and cagey?

This one kept me guessing how it was going to end throughout the entire book and I loved the ending! A very quick page turner and would be a great one to read to get out of a slump!

Kathryn Conroy is a judge and Madison’s idol. Madison is in law school and taking a class taught by Judge Conroy. Madison studies hard and makes smart choices to put herself on Judge Conroy’s radar. She is rewarded with an interview for a coveted intern position with Judge Conroy.

But, Madison’s brother is in jail and the judge on his case? Conroy of course.

Oh, so good. Love a strong female lead and Madison certainly holds her own.

The Intern by Michele Campbell

Let me say first that I am in love with this author. I mean truly in love Campbell has an uncanny ability to tell a story, a thriller to be exact, and keep you sucked in without letting go and you, the reader, is so enthralled and engrossed that someone could ask you for a thousand dollars and you would say sure. The characters…… very well developed, flawed and although not very honest, you still want to like them at first especially Judge Kathryn Conroy. Madison Rivera has looked up to Judge Conroy for some time and now Madison is in Law School with none other than Judge Conroy as one of her professors. But things change pretty quickly when Madison is asked to do an internship for Judge Conroy as she needs a new one really quick. There is a problem though. Madison’s brother has been in trouble with the law and pled guilty to trafficking in which he said he was framed and that Judge Conroy was one of the people who framed him. Then her brother turns up missing. Of course you will think you know the ending but this one will knock your boots off. In no way is this book predictable. It is a fast paced thriller that has an explosive ending and well………you just need to read it to find out. I guarantee you will love it.

Madison Rivera is a Harvard Law Student and has admired Judge Kathryn Conroy since she heard her speak at a high school career day. Now she is her Professor in law school
One day after class Judge Kathryn Conroy tells Madison that she has an internship position that opened unexpectedly and wonders if Madison could fit in her schedule and consider applying? Normally applicants apply a year in advance but she needs someone now!
Madison idolizes her so this is a dream come true. Madison does apply but has concerns about the problems her brother Danny who has been in trouble with the law. In fact, he recently has been arrested for heroin trafficking in which he pleaded guilty.
He claims it was a set-up he was framed. He is innocent but his lawyer as well as the police all are in on it-Including Judge Conroy. I am an avid thriller fan plus always enjoy stories featuring a smart attorney.
This story has twists that were nothing like I expected.

"The Intern" by Michelle Campbell is another page-turner. We are introduced to Madison Rivera, a successful law student that wants to break family barriers. She gets that chance with an internship with her idol. What happens next takes both Madison and Judge Conroy through many hoops. Where will Madison's loyalties end up? Her family, herself, or the law?

You would think that Madison’s life is pretty good. A stand out student at Harvard Law, with a very good chance of getting an internship with Kathryn Conroy, a professor she respects.
A call from her mother pulls her out of this world and into her younger brother Danny’s. The two of them head to the prison where he’s being held, and unearth a bombshell. Danny has pled guilty, coerced by his own lawyer after he faced a corrupt judge. Her name, Kathryn Conroy, Madison's professor.
Told by Madison and Kathryn, the twists and turns just kept coming. Things that seem straightforward are not always what they appear. I wound up really liking one character, though I won’t say who because of shark infested spoiler waters. I read this outside in my garden over Memorial Day weekend and my only regret is that I can’t read it again for the first time on the beach. Publishing in October, it was a fast paced, what is going on story that will turn everything you believe upside down more than once.

The begining of the book was very interesting. There were too many characters too keep track of. I didn't agree with some of the character's decisions. But that was more for personal reasons nothing to do with the writing. It was a book that had a moral dilemma at its core.

I loved Michele Campbell's upcoming release The Intern. I have to admit I was initially unsure about it because of the title - it gave me vibes of maybe a popcorn thriller or something- BUT I have read and loved every one of this author's books and this one was no exception. There is definitely a lot going on in this story - the characters are well developed and I loved the way the author went back and forth from Madison's story to Kathryn's story. I found this book to be very intriguing and hard to put down! Its a legal thriller with lots of surprises throughout and I found it hard to decide if Kathryn was trustworthy or not. Madison is a talented Harvard law student who I felt might be a bit naïve but she is really smart and I loved the dynamic between her and Kathryn. I feel like Campbell absolutely nailed the ending for this one! Absolutely loved this book!
Thank you so much for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Michelle Campbell definitely delighted again in her most recent thriller! If you enjoy unpredictable psychological thrillers, then this one is for you. It is a tale of women and their secrets, lies, and family ties intertwined in the legal profession. 5 stars!

This heart-throbbing and absolutely unputdownable legal thriller captivates readers with its well-executed character development and perfectly paced plot. It keeps you on your toes with its intriguing mystery, balanced with surprising twists. Once you start reading, you won't want to leave your seat, flipping the pages faster to uncover the challenging cliffhangers the author throws our way. It's an exciting and engaging read that draws you into a character-driven, thought-provoking mystery that you'll want to solve immediately."

Both of the two points of view (POVs) in the story keep your interest alive and intact. One of the POVs belongs to Madison Rivera, a Harvard Law student whose dreams come true when she secures a spot as a summer intern at her favorite judge, Kathryn Conroy's office. However, when she discovers that her brother, Danny, has been arrested on federal drug charges and Kathryn is assigned to his case, Madison realizes that her idol may hold her brother's fate in her hands. She is determined to help her brother and unravel the mystery behind the crime he insists he didn't commit. The pressure on Madison's shoulders escalates as her mother pushes her harder to assist her brother, and Kathryn welcomes her into a dangerous, secret world while Madison hides her involvement with Danny.

Through Kathryn's POV, readers delve into her dark past, the poverty and struggles she faced, and the difficult choices she made to climb the career ladder. Personally, I found her character development and perspective to be particularly compelling.

The revelations in the book are surprising yet believable. There are no senseless or far-fetched explanations, which was a relief. The conclusion is also well-wrapped up, satisfying readers with a well-executed ending.

One aspect of the book that bothered me was the large number of characters and their connections to the main characters, creating a complex web. It was a bit confusing to keep track of which character served what purpose. I found myself going back and forth to piece everything together. However, in the end, the bigger picture perfectly made sense.

As a devoted fan of the author, I never say no to well-written, fast-paced, and exciting crime/legal/political thrillers. This book definitely met my expectations, and I highly recommend it to fellow genre lovers.

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with a digital reviewer copy of this book in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Absolutely loved this story of a Harvard law student, Madison, who gets caught up in corrupt activities of a law professor and federal judge she has admired since high school. When the judge invites her to apply for an internship, Madison sees and experiences things that don’t add up. The unexplained firing of the last intern, a controlling case manager working for the judge, and the mysterious murder of the judge’s husband. Despite the red flags, Madison is motivated to stay in the judge’s good graces to learn more about her bother’s legal trouble that he claims was a frame job. Madison creates trouble for herself when she omits information about her brother on the background check for the intern position. When the FBI gets involved, you never know who will flip and who will stay loyal. The suspense keeps the story moving along at a good pace, the characters are well developed, and the ending provides an unexpected surprise while bringing closure to many unanswered questions. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in suspense, strong female characters, and unfortunate family dynamics. This was an honest review of an ARC of #The Intern provided by #St. Martin’s Publishing Group through #NetGalley.

Such a fun legal thriller! Madison is a Harvard Law student and is selected to be Judge Kathryn Conroy's intern. The two share a lot in common, but there's a lot more to their legal relationship than first meets the eye. Both have some baggage to deal with, and this is the story of how their unique situations collide.

I was on the edge of my seat reading this book, and I finished it in record time. The story is well written and compelling. I may have gotten a tad bogged down toward the end of the book, but the writer ends the story with a bang. Loved it!

Highly recommend to those who love fast paced stories with some action and some unlikely friendships!

Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read and review The Intern.

Michele Campbell hits it out of the park again with this amazing thriller.
I have loved every book that she has written but I must admit this has to be my favorite.

The Intern by Michele Campbell was everything I was hoping for.

The author kept an air of tension going through much of the story
She did an excellent job in weaving the mystery here and keeping the story flowing nicely.
The storyline itself swept me straight up and didn't put me down until the last page. A true page turner. It is filled with twists, turns, nail biting suspense, lies, murder, family and drama.
The characters are complex and interesting. And I eager to see how this all unfolded.
Sharp, intelligent and compelling Campbell is a master at creating an suspenseful atmosphere with a well developed story line that kept me going until 2am.
