The author has put together an excellent cast of characters in a tale of corruption involving a judge, cop, lawyer, a framed drug dealer, and his sister, a Harvard 2L working as the judge’s intern. When the FBI investigation brings in the judge, the bad guys go to great lengths to protect their interests

Loved this Boston-based legal/psychological suspense! A real cat-and-mouse book, following Madison—a Harvard law student, and Judge Conroy—a federal judge.

Madison is offered an internship in the Judge’s office…and it turns out that things are falling apart behind the facade of the job and the prestige that comes with it. All thanks to some mysterious interlopers who seem to be involved with a whole lot of corruption.

I didn’t know what to think about who was guilty, who was guilty by association, who was morally grey but on the right side, or who may have had a storied past but was on the right side of things now.

Overall, this was an action-packed ride that I loved! Add in Lucy the cat, and it became a perfect book (that reminded me why I left law!)

Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and St. Martin’s Press for a review copy!

“The Intern” is the latest captivating thriller by Michelle Campbell, author of “It’s Always the Husband” and “Stranger on the Beach.”

Law student Madison gets the position of her life when she is asked to intern for Judge Kathryn, a woman who comes from a similar background as she. But Madison’s brother, Danny is accepting a plea deal, a case that the judge has been assigned. There are also some questions about the mysterious death of the judge’s husband. Madison is determined to clear her brother but worries about her new employer discovering her ulterior motives.

As an attorney and law professor, I am partial to legal thrillers, even with plots where you might have to somewhat suspend belief. (Madison could never have gotten a position like this so easily). The novel alternates between Madison’s point of view and that of Kathryn. Though I found Madison to be a much more likable and relatable character, getting to know Kathryn helped to explain the choices she made. Overall, fans of Michelle Campbell and thrillers in general will find this a compelling read.

Many thanks to Michelle Campbell, NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Michele Campbell could write a soup can and I’d read it. Another tale of the naïf among the rich and powerful, but who is the sheep and who is the wolf, when no one is who they seem? Five beach house book stars.

I read The Stranger on the Beach and it was okay, so when I saw a chance to read The Intern for free, I thought I would give it a try. I really liked this one so much better. This really kept me guessing about the Judge and there were twists and turns that I didn't see coming and wasn't quite sure where they were going to go. I would give this book a 4.4 on the rating scale. The only reason I don't go higher is because I am not a big fan of books with violence. This was more of a psychological thriller with a little violence. I will keep Michelle Campbell on my radar and try another one of her books.

I was excited to receive an advanced copy of The Intern by Michelle Campbell as I really loved The Wife Who Knew Too Much.

Unfortunately, it feels like 2 different people wrote those books. I really struggled through this one, especially the first part. The writing was clunky and dialogue SO awkward. The story had potential but overall it just didn't work for me.

Thank you to Netgalley and St Martin's Press for an advanced copy of The Intern.

Madison is a Harvard Law student working to become a lawyer. Her professor, Kathryn is also the reason she wanted to become a lawyer so when .she is offered the the opportunity to intern with her office, she jumps at the chance. Her excitement is overshadowed with worry thoughvbecause she has a brother that is currently incarcerated and claims he was set up and it seems like her mentor may be involved.

As Madison gets pulled into Kathryn's life, she realizes that she is not who she thought she was.

Told from both main characters, this was an exciting novel full of unexpected twists.

The Intern was a fun twisty read and I really enjoyed the plot lines and the strong female characters.

The author does an excellent job with pacing in this novel. It felt like there was urgency from the first pages until the very end. My only major gripe is that it got a little repetitive in the middle.

I would highly recommend the Intern to anyone interested in fast paced thrillers and law-based thrillers.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read this ARC!

A very intriguing story of law student Madison who lands an internship with Federal Judge Kathryn Conroy. Conroy is going to decide on Madison's innocent brother Danny's fate as a drug dealer. Not disclosing this relationship is a struggle for Madison's conscience vs Danny's fate.

Kathryn Convoy has her own secrets and being blackmailed by family connections to decide on cases makes her relationship to Madison very complicated and dangerous for them both. Kathryn grew up unaware of her mother's connections to gangsters. Between these two women they try to smart the gangsters in Kathryn's life.

Fast paced with characters you can get emotionally involved with.

Definitely an author I will continue to follow.

The Intern is a well-written crime thriller in the vein of The Firm by John Grisham.

Madison is a first year law student when she lands the internship of her dreams and her brother is framed for narcotics crimes. Is the Judge she works for and idolizes a corrupt member of the mob who framed her brother?

Our narrators are Madison and the Judge. We get "real time" updates along with flashback sequences to see the path that lead both these ladies to where they are currently in their lives. We get class prejudice, illicit affairs, corruption, and other sordid happenings as secrets are revealed.

With the FBI, the Attorney General, and the mob breathing down her neck and threatening her and her family, can Madison formulate a plan to save them all? Of course she does (we all knew that) but the roller coaster ride to the finale is wonderful and tense.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

●Thoughts ●
This book started off really strong with a story that hooks you in and then right when it hits the 50% ish mark, the story feels very slow. At first, I was hooked and the book was such a fast paced read but then it did a 180 degrees and it slowed down... The aspect of Kathryn's secret and Madison becoming her intern was making me become a detective and then once we know her secret, the story does a mood swing. It interests me and it makes me confused at the same time. The POV change was kind of hard to follow in this book and when Madison's mom changes from mom to her actual name, I was like wait huh??? The plot does get a bit repetitive and I do wish I enjoyed it more 😭😭😭.

Madison, a Harvard Law student. Judge Conroy, a prestigious and well known Judge. Two women with troubled pasts, deep secrets and a drive to protect those they love.

When Madison lands an internship with Judge Conroy, what seems like a life changing opportunity becomes a life altering thrill ride. Both women carry secrets that can make or break them, and one wrong move can completely shatter all they’ve worked for. What is the price of silence, or the price of honesty when faced with corruption, success, coercion, violence and those we love.

This book was a quick, palatable read that I finished in a few hours. The plot was initially a bit tough to keep track of, as you were introduced to many characters very quickly, and thrown right into the action. However, while it was sometimes a challenge to keep everything straight, it felt frantic and gave an air of impending doom, just like the story was meant to be.

This was well written and well thought out, and I enjoyed how the entire thing felt like life or death. The ending was a bit implausible, but then again, Madison and Judge Conroy’s whole experience was exactly that too.

What a great twisty thriller where no one is who they seem. Young law student Madison gets the opportunity of her dreams working with her idol Judge Katheryn Conroy. But Madison has a secret. Her brother has recently been arrested and sentenced by Judge Conroy. Deciding not to mention it doesn’t seem like a big deal until Danny disappears in the prison system, She decides to come clean with the Judge and try to find him. But is the judge a friend or an enemy. Madison then becomes part of a conspiracy that can destroy not only her law career but her life. I loved this book

In the Intern, Madison is a college student working her way through law school, and struggling to balance the necessities of her studies with her family's needs. Madison's brother is arrested, and her mother thinks that Madison has the connections to "fix" the situation that he has found himself in due to her knowledge of the law. However, Madison is trying to prepare for finals, and recently started an internship for a judge and doesn't want to rock the boat.

However, concerning events begin occurring while Madison is working at the internship, and things aren't quite adding up. Could the judge that Madison is interning for possibly be mixed up in some shady deals? Is there a connection between the judge's potential shady dealings and the fact that the judge was also the judge for Madison's brother's case? Madison finds herself sneaking deeper and deeper into the underpinnings of the judge's life to try to get to the bottom of the situation, for both herself as well as her brother. What she discovers may

The Intern was an interesting story and an enjoyable read. The sentence structure and writing style mirror the age and personality of the narrator, and it’s impressive how Michelle has altered her writing style to mimic the voice of her main character. I felt the voice was a bit young for me to connect completely with the character; however, I still enjoyed the storyline and the book overall.

Madison has landed the internship of her dreams, but quickly discovers there is more to this job than she could ever imagine. Told in the POV of Madison and her mentor, Judge Kathryn Conroy, this novel kept me guessing with every turn of the page. I didn’t know who to trust until the very last page. I had trouble with the first part of the book but it quickly changed pace with the second POV. Thanks to NetGalley for this digital copy for my honest review.

I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Harvard Law, the courtroom, ties to the mob, this story had it all! It was told from duel viewpoints which added a lot of suspense and mystery as to what was really going on. The twists and turns were fantastic and the complexity of the characters held my attention the whole way through. Thanks to St. Martins Press and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.

Really good book! Not sure what I was expecting, but not what I got. The book is about a federal judge and “family” whether they are blood relatives or just close friends or members of the mob in Boston. People she cares about are murdered and her life is in danger. Does she flip on her “family” by cooperating with the authorities or does she do something else? Read the book and find out.
