I like the switch of the main focus from the young attorney interning with the well known judge to the emphasis on the judge herself, and her secret background and life.

That the two women begin to help each other out in tight situations involving family and safety is a key point of the novel which I found unusual. This is a suspenseful novel, enjoyable and entertaining.

Heart Pounding from the first page to the last. This was a page turner. To see how far the mafia infiltrates the police and justice system, the people affected and the threats...the judge and intern made this a fabulous story.

Pretty good, I enjoyed the ride a lot. The writing was engaging and the plot was actually pretty fascinating. I'll look out for more from this author.

I loved this one. Michelle Campbell’s books are usually very good. This one didn’t disappoint. Madison, a student at Harvard, adores one of her professors. That professor is Judge Kathryn Conroy. It’s no wonder that Madison worships her. They have similar upbringings and Madison longs to be a lawyer and strong, independent woman too. So, when the judge asks Madison to apply as an assistant in her office, Madison is thrilled. Little does she know that she is about to become involved in a series of unfortunate events.

This was a really good book with oh-so-many twists! I’m generally not much for procedurals or law/police intrigue, but this was surprisingly different! I liked the characters and their development. Madison should have annoyed me with her naïveté, but her love for her family and dedication to them changed my mind. Kathy was cool and I understand why she ended up how she did.

Disclaimer: I received a gifted copy of this book from netgalley, and in exchange I am leaving an honest review.

Y'all when I say this book had me up until 2am on Monday night, Im not exaggerating. Went from 20% to 68% super quickly and the only reason I stopped reading was because I was falling asleep. This book pulls no punches.
Discusses the corruption both in police and in the government. Establishes multiple plot points and connects them with ease. It hooked me by 20%.
I think I'm Lowkey obsessed with crime novels at this point. I read 25% on my lunch break. This is my first novel by Michele but I will be reading more.
Thank you to netgalley and Michele Campbell for the opportunity to read this book

I've enjoyed Michele Campbell's previous books, so I was so excited to read her new one early! The Intern was a fast paced, unpredictable story that I read in a day because I couldn't put it down! I loved the different points of view throughout the story, though I definitely enjoyed Kathryn's sections a lot more than Madison's (though they both made a lot of terrible decisions). There was a little too much going on here, with the whole mob (?) tie-in, and some of the dialogue was a bit stilted, but I still sped through it. I really liked that the author kept me guessing on who to trust until the very end of the book. I saw some of the minor twists coming, but a couple definitely took me by surprise! Overall, I would recommend and can't wait to read whatever the author comes out with next. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

I appreciate this opportunity to read Michele Campbell’s new book & extend gratitude to the publishers. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed and did not enjoy this story. I tried to push on in hopes it would get better, so I continued reading. However, I found the book so disinteresting with bland characters that I didn’t finish it. The plot showed promise, but lacked engagement from readers. Not one I would recommend although I do appreciate the opportunity to read it. Thank you.

The Intern - Michelle Campbell

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this captivating eARC.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I have read many psychological thrillers and/or mystery novels lately that have a decent plot, but the characters are not thoroughly developed, which prevents you from caring what happens to those characters.
I am happy to say that is not the case with Ms. Campbell's new offering.

True to form, this author succeeds in delivering a heart-stopper of an exciting crime thriller in The Intern, as a young law student's admiration for a judge makes her vulnerable to exploitation. However, even this exploitation isn't quite what it seems, as the judge is merely protecting her threatened family members 😲.

This awesome story which draws you into the characters lives' and reveals the lie inherent in portrayals of people as wholly good or wholly bad - such people only exist in fantasy, despite what so many of us were raised to believe...

An equally excellent storyline, I went online to purchase two other books by this author immediately after I finished this one.

Until next time...

I thought this was going to be a very predictable storyline, then I got the part 2 and some forth and it really picked up. I enjoyed this book, and would recommend this one and her past two. Thanks for a copy in exchange for an honest review

Michelle Campbell has written an extraordinary explosive book with The Intern.
It captivated me and I had to hold on for this extraordinary novel of twisted bad guys; grooming the good guys and women into informants by any means necessary.
With an ending so satisfying, it felt like a long held breath released.

Madison Rivera is following her dream of becoming a lawyer. She is a student at Harvard. She is really impressed with Federal Judge, Kathryn Conroy, who is teaching her class. She really enjoys Judge Conroy’s class.

Madison gets a call from her mother that her brother Danny has been arrested and is basically being railroaded by the police, his lawyer, and the Judge. Madison and her mother meet with her brother in jail. He looks horrible. It looks like he has been beaten. Madison want to help him by looking further into his case. Danny is adamant that he doesn’t want her to pursue it, because Detective Wallace informed him that he would definitely kill him and go after his mother as well.

While this is going on, Madison finds out that the Judge involved in her brother’s case is Judge McCoy.

Judge McCoy has been impressed with Madison. She offers Madison the opportunity to apply for an internship in her Chambers. Madison is thrilled, but what should she do about her brother being incarcerated on a drug charge? Should she hide it or be honest with the Judge?

She applied for the position and gets hired. Her brother told her that the Judge was on the take and that the Judge also knows the prosecutor very well. She is adamant to check out her brothers case and see exactly what’s going on with her brothers case.

Is the Judge really on the take and corrupt? How does the Judge know the Prosecutor so well? What’s the connection between the Judge and Detective Wallace?

Will Madison find out what’s really going on? Will she be able to keep it a secret that her brother is incarcerated?

The plot always evolved throughout the book. It definitely kept the reader on their toes. The character development was great as well. I didn’t like the antagonist in this book at all. I was rooting for the protagonist in this book.

I definitely didn’t see the end coming, that’s for sure! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the next one.

I was just asking myself a few weeks ago if Michele Campbell was writing anything new and then BAM The Intern e-galley makes it's way into my inbox! She always writes such fun thriller/suspense books and I dug right into this one. This is exactly what I remember Michele writing and I enjoyed every second that I got to read it. Thanks so much to the publisher for my copy of this book!

Madison Riveria, Harvard Law student, has always admired her law professor - Federal Judge Kathryn Conroy. They grew up in the same town and went to the same school, and of course Madison can only dream of being as successful as Judge Conroy someday. Imagine Madison's delight when the Judge encourages her to apply for an internship in her clerk office. All that excited is suddenly met with dread when she learns that her brother, recently arrested for drug trafficking, was one of Judge Conroy's cases... and her brother is claiming the Judge is fixing the case with the lawyer and cops involved. The Intern is a thrilling book where you can't help but love the characters. I was in tears at the end (but maybe that's partially the cat lover in me)! Regardless, this is a must read by Michele Campbell and I'm so glad I was able to read an advanced copy!

The Intern was a fast-paced procedural thriller that kept me hooked from the beginning. I really enjoyed how the different POVs were separated up into different parts of the book so they weren't just continuously going back and forth. I think that helped add to the character development and made it easier to put together the different backstories of the characters.
Overall, I really enjoyed the unknown aspect of who the true villain was. There were many times throughout the book when I went back and forth on who I disliked and who I could trust which really helped add an air of unsureness and made me not want to put the book down.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes lawyer/judge dramas and thrillers, and someone who enjoys fast-paced reads. It was a wonderful book and I rated it 4/5 stars!

First time reader of this author and am definitely a big fan and will be reading her others. The Intern had an easy flow and a plot that sucked me in. Yes, there are hundreds of books with this same basic plot, but the author made it seem fresh and new. I highly recommend this book and greatly appreciate the author not writing pages and pages of filler details that were not needed.

Thanks to the publisher and author for the book. It was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Suspense and mystery at its best. This is a quick read with red herrings that make guessing the ending difficult. This talented and gifted author has written a cannot put down novel. It is a quick read with intriguing characters. Madison is a law student and interns for her idol judge. What ensues is almost unbelievable. Along with her irritating mom, she has a brother in jail. Add an ex boyfriend, and the story just keeps getting better. Enjoy this novel which reads like nonfiction at times. This would make a great movie.

Thank you Netgalley & St. Martin's Press for an eARC of The Intern in exchange for an honest review!

This was an OK read for me, I typically love the academic spin on suspense and mystery novels, but this one wasn't my favorite.

Madison is a young Harvard law student, taking a class with her idol, a charismatic judge Kathryn Conroy. She lands an internship with the judge at the same time her younger brother, Danny, has been arrested. It just so happens that Conroy is the judge on his case, too. Kathryn is Madison's mentor, but what else is she?

This is a game of cat-and-mouse that in my opinion is very predictable.

The Intern by Michele Campbell is compelling from start to finish, and thoroughly believable. I found myself thinking, "There’s no way this plot situation can be resolved. I wonder HOW the author is going to do it?!" The answer was certaibly not disappointing. The characters were well thought out and I found myself really vested in them. The surprises and plot twists felt small and numerous rather than one big "aha!" moment, but each was satisfying. I will definitely follow this author and eagerly await her next book and the one after that. The Intern is easily 6 put of 5 stars!
