I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t like crime/courtroom/cop drama books, or anything to do with lawyers or the law in general, but I requested this book from NetGalley because I have read all of Michele Campbell’s books and enjoyed them all, and I’m happy to say that this was the first of this genre that I didn’t hate! It follows Madison as she gets an internship at Harvard Law with Judge Kathryn Conroy, a professor she really looks up to. Right off the bat we discover both women are keeping major secrets. It was very fast paced and exciting and the ending was my favorite. It did not disappoint!

I received an advanced copy from NetGalley in exchange for a review and opinions are my own.

The Intern by Michelle Campbell

When Harvard law student, Madison Rivera gets the opportunity to intern for her long term mentor Judge Kathryn Conroy, she thinks she’s hit the jackpot. But after her brother winds up in jail for drug charges and she realizes it was under Judge Conroy things start to get very complicated. After a little digging she starts to believe the Judge isn’t who she pretends to be. Maybe even Mafia ties. There is definitely more to the story and the Judge and Madison need to work it all out before more people die.
All in all, a good story. At first I did not like the Judge at all but in the end I felt for her too. The ending was very good.

Wow!!! I really enjoyed every minute of this book. I was constantly second guessing who the “good guys” were. This is probably my favorite Campbell book I’ve read so far. I especially loved the way it ended! 5 stars!

Michele Campbell is one of my favorite writers, and she did not disappoint with The Intern. The author has the talent to paint her characters with a fine brush. I felt like I could reach out and touch them. Michele Campbell also knows how to create breathless suspense on a page. I read a lot of psychological thrillers, and without a doubt, Michele Campbell is by far one of the best writers.

Madison Rivera is a hard working law school student at Harvard. She is happily surprised when her professor, a well known Judge asks her to intern for her. She jumps at the chance even though her brother is in jail and embroiled in a mafiaeque situation.
As the days go by, the Judge seems to trust her more and more and ask her for personal favors. When Madison discovers a tie between her brother and the judge's history she is on high alert. Is the judge setting her up? #Stmartins #TheIntern #MicheleCampbell

One of my favorite authors!! 12/10!! Loved! I couldn’t decide how I felt about the characters. Had me so hung up on every word as the story and characters developed. Michelle Campbell’s writing flows so naturally and smoothly very easy to read and understand. Makes the best quick page turning reads!!

Another great read by Michele Campbell! I have read all of her books, and this one lives up to the expectations! In The Intern, we meet Madison, a Harvard law student who is on track for success. Madison applies to a killer internship and is doing great in her internship. But she has a secret, that if found out, could ruin her chances at succeeding in the legal world. Before we know it, Madison is thrust into a world of secrets, lies, and even murder. Trying to save her career, and her family, I found myself rooting for Madison all the way through the book! There were twists and turns that I did NOT see coming. Definitely a 5 star read!

This is the most heterosexual gay book I’ve ever read. It was very weird to have a premise that hinges so much on this young intern yearning for this older woman’s attention be so weirdly cold on the push/pull energy between them, to the point where there were times in the narrative where I couldn’t believe the main character would keep herself in such a stupidly dangerous situation, because almost all her decisions seem to come from the head and not the heart. Still, this is a page-turner. Even the chapters that take part in the past and fill in context had tension to spare, and despite not feeling overly connected to the characters, I still wanted them both to get out of the mess they were in and kept wondering how they would it. A very accomplished thriller.

I don't normally like plots involving lawyers and courtrooms, but I found this one intriguing. I do think the beginning of the book started out strong. Once I got to the middle of the book I did lose some interest, but I was still motivated to read to the end to find out what happened. The story is told from two POVs, Madison and Kathryn. The middle of the book starts to get a little too mob involved for what I prefer. If you like those type of story lines then this one you will love!

Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow!!! This book was a little different than other Michele Campbell book I’ve read! I enjoy her books and this one did not disappoint either! I couldn’t put it down! It had mafia vibes and espionage vibes but still thriller vibes! I highly recommend!

Wow! When I first started this book, I thought it wasn't going to be my kind of book....I was so wrong! It sucked me in, and couldn't put it down. Excellent character development, I felt like I knew them personally. The story definitely keeps you guessing on who's goid, who's bad, and who's both.
Thanks to netgalley, the publisher and author for the chance to read this advanced copy.

Authors can be the best secret keepers...

To say I'm Michele Campbell's number one fan would be the biggest understatement of the year.

I AM OBSESSED

and that is putting it lightly.

Funny story, another author friend of mine (Jaime Lynn Hendricks) had suggested I read Michele Campbell when I was In one of my book slumps. I would pick up a book, read a few chapters, put it down, then repeat. After swimming around this fish bowl for over a week I decided to pick up It's Always The Husband.

Game Over

Not only was I out of my book slump but I had a new author to feverishly obsess over. I did not sleep the week I found Michele Campbell, instead I read each one of her books back to back during every waking moment.

This woman is an absolute rockstar who delivers each and every time she puts out a new release.

But you see Michele has been hiding a secret from me....

I had no idea about The Intern until I opened up Netgalley one morning and it was staring right back at me .

OMG

I needed this book. I started to sweat...

This was the book of my dreams and I could not accept failure...

Well, as you can see, the cute little book fairies over at St. Martin's Press, granted my wish.

I might sound a bit delirious, as I was up all night reading but it was so worth it.

As always, this is without a doubt another 5 star read but did you expect anything less from Campbell? I know I didn't. Her writing style will suck you right in and plunge you right into the deep end of deceit. I was submerged in this book from start to finish and quickly became addicted to each flip of the page. I was racing to the finish line !!!

The suspense had me gripping my chest and shrieking out loud "oh no oh no oh no" .

If I could suggest one book for you this year, it would be this one. Definitely this one.

Here is a little teaser :

A young Harvard law student falls under the spell of a charismatic judge in this timely and thrilling novel about class, ambition, family and murder.

Madison Rivera lands the internship of a lifetime working for Judge Kathryn Conroy. But Madison has a secret that could destroy her career. Her troubled younger brother Danny has been arrested, and Conroy is the judge on his case. When Danny goes missing after accusing the judge of corruption, Madison’s quest for answers brings her deep into the judge’s glamorous world. Is Kathryn Conroy a mentor, a victim, or a criminal? Is she trying to help Madison or use her as a pawn? And why is somebody trying to kill her? As the two women circle each other in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game, will they save each other, or will betrayal leave one of them dead?

Thank you Michele Campbell, St. Martin Press and Netgalley for granting this little Campbell obsessed reader the highest honor of reading and reviewing The Intern before its October 3, 2023 release date in exchange for an honest review.

Now, to my followers, you know what to do....Pre-Order the book!!

It was a great read. Different than the previous books by Michele Campbell. It kept my attention, great character development - and I wasn’t sure how it was going to end! All of my favorite things in a book. 5/5

Madison lands the internship of her dreams in a prestigious judge's office. She quickly learns how much her and the judge, Kathryn, have in common. Kathryn also had to rely on others' generosity in order to get where she was in life. But Madison has to keep her brother a secret while at the law office. He is nothing but trouble and had just gotten arrested on major drug charges. She couldn't let Danny ruin things for her. But Madison's mom won't let up on her. She has to help Danny; he is family. Suddenly the judge warms to Madison and pulls her into a dark world, she doesn't know if she can escape. She may be dragging Danny down with her. How is she going to navigate this world, plagued with the worst criminals she has ever seen?
I just love Michelle Campbell! She keeps the best secrets and you never know where the story is going to end up! In The Intern by Michelle Campbell just when you think you have everyone figured out, Michelle finds a new twist in the character or storyline. I really enjoyed this legal thriller and will always recommend Michelle Campbell's work to others. I am always on the lookout for new work by Campbell and I am never disappointed. Special thanks to NetGalley, Michelle Campbell, and St. Martin's Press for the advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest opinion. 4 big stars for me!!

This sounded really interesting to me, but unfortunately I did not finish this one. By the middle of the book, I realized I didn't care enough about the story anymore, or the outcome.

This felt very much like a first draft, the ideas were there but still a little convoluted… and this leaned way more into the mob space than I initially expected. Kept me reading but didn’t blow my mind the way I was anticipating.

Thanks Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

THE INTERN has an interesting premise and the first 50% was a quick and entertaining read - however, the plot really started getting convoluted (and not in a good way) around the 60% mark. I made it to the end but mostly just felt relief when it was over.

I enjoyed this book. I like multiple POV and alternating timelines, both of which this novel included. I did get a little lost in some of the details of the story especially at the end.

3.5 stars rounded to 4. This was a well written book that was more of a mystery than a thriller. Madison is a law student at Harvard and lands a dream internship, but this is the same Judge who sent her innocent brother to prison. Is she going to risk her career to help set her brother free? Is the Judge as crooked as her brother says? The story was told on a non linear timeline from multiple view points which was enjoyable but a little hard to follow at times. The Intern is definitely a book worth reading!
