Thank you to Michele Campbell, @stmartinspress, and @netgalley for allowing me to read an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of The Intern for an honest review!
๐This book was published on October 3, 2023 and can be purchased at your local bookstore or on Amazon!๐
I started reading this book as a buddy read with three other friends that had been approved for the ARC as well. I put the book down due to sickness and then life being out of control. Iโm so thankful I was able to pick the book back up to complete it in the new year because it was completely worth it!
The first portion of the book felt a tad slow but when the book hit 20% or soโฆwowza! I didnโt know what in the world I was reading and what in the world was going to happen. There was a shift in characters being completely trustworthy and reliable to not being able to trust anyone! Who, what, and why became the main focus of my attention.
Whodunnit?
Who are the accomplices?
Who are the enemies?
Who will be in harms way next?
What is the end game?
What are the motives of each character?
Why are people dying?
Why are people running?
Why is a federal court judge involved?
Highly recommend for the thriller lover!

Thanks to Netgalley, St, Martins Press and Michele Campbell for this ARC. If your looking for a legal read that upholds or distorts the Justice system and are subject to the consequences, this oneโs for you. I feel it started out a bit slow for me,and dragged in a few places, but it picked up and I did read it in a few days time and found hard to put down, so itโs a 4 star from meโฆ
my reviews are on Amazon, Goodreads, my online book clubs and I recommend to my local Bookclubs, and this one I did..

Amazing legal thriller! Once I started I couldnโt put it down! The mysteries within the main story are on point, and that ending was chefs kiss

Do you like:
- [ ] Psychological thrillers
- [ ] Family secrets
- [ ] Strong female characters
- [ ] Different Points of view
If any of these are true, then you will enjoy this read?
Honestly, I thought it started off a bit slow, but before I knew it, I was hooked.
Of course, thatโs because, things were not as they seemed.
Very enjoyable read and I now have to make a point of reading more by this author.
Thank you to @stmartinspress and @netgalley for the Arc.

This book really just took me for a ride. I loved the build up, the character development, and the writing. I would definitely read more from this author!

What a different suspenseful read. This book was different from many other books that I have read lately. I dirty judge whose past comes to haunt them with an intern stuck in the middle. This was a fast-paced read for me and recommend it if you are looking for a mobster thriller type of book.

This is the story of Madison, a law student at Harvard, who gets an internship with her favorite judge- Kathryn. However, she realizes that Kathryn is the judge is the same judge over her brothers case after he was recently arrested. She has to ask herself "do I tell the judge the truth and risk losing my internship or keep it a secret hoping that she can help her brothers case?"
This book is written from a dual timeline perspective- one from the judge (Kathryn) past (her upbringing) and what she went through to be the woman she is today. (The judge was the focus of this book unlike the title of the book makes you feel like Madison is the main character). The other POV is from Madison in present day.
You will enjoy this if you like a fast past legal thriller written from a dual timeline perspective!
Overall, a quick read that didn't do much for me. Not a bad read just didn't engage me in the way I hoped.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for an ARC in exchange for a review. Book was released 10/3/2023

For some reason I wasn't expecting a legal thriller but that's what I got. And boy did it turn out fantastic! The Intern was so good! Completely unputdownable and thrilling right to the very last page! Twists I didn't see coming and an ending I couldn't believe. I had to read it twice lol
Thank you so much!

This story about a college student who interns for a judge had me guessing until the end. It is a fast paced read that hooks you from the beginning. 4 of 5 stars.

I love a good legal-thriller! This was such a fast paced, page turner and I couldn't get enough! So many secrets and told in alternating points of view. A must read!

I liked this crime and legal suspense thriller much more than I originally thought I would after a cumbersome start. The erstwhile heroine, Madison Rivera, is TOO perfect, down to being the gorgeous, top-of-the-class Harvard Law student from the wrong side of the tracks. Likewise, her idol, Judge Conroy, is equally perfect, intelligent, beautiful and beyond reproach - or is she? Mostly a fast-paced action thriller than legal or courtroom drama, this book was surprisingly entertaining and technical enough to make me believe it was written by a former HLS grad herself.

Michele Campbell never disappoints! She is truly in a league of her own when it come to writing taut suspenseful thrillers.

The Intern is told from two different POV"s: Judge Kathryn Conroy and her intern Madison. Conroy is lecturing a class at Harvard and Madison attends hoping to win a coveted internship. The problem is that Madison's brother has been arrested and the Judge on the case is Conroy which Madison doesn't disclose. But she's not the only one keeping a secret as the Judge herself has a dark past that is coming back to haunt her and in turn affects Madison.
The Intern is an intense legal thriller that holds readers captive from beginning to end with a well-written, potently executed plot line. Outstanding characterization and a steadily increasing pace keep readers burning through pages for answers. Twists and turns are hidden throughout, and readers will burn the midnight oil to finish this highly atmospheric thriller.

Thoughts
This was a really good thriller. I don't read many thrillers anymore so it is nice to pick one up and it be really good.
I was worried about the big time hop in the middle but it worked fine.
If you're a thriller lover I think this one is a good one to pick up.

Michelle Campbell had me with her first novel Itโs always the husband, which to this day is still my favorite! With that being said this one came really close second place! I have been yearning for another novel like her first, I have read every single one of her novels! She definitely is very talented writer and this one got a bit away from her usual domestic thriller vibe. Also I loved a good police procedural involved, love the dual timelines, I think it worked very well. It was very fast paced and a bit predictable but I enjoyed it all the same!

THE INTERN is an exhilarating journey through the legal maze, & is a law thriller that kept me hooked from the first page.
The story follows Madison & her pursuit of justice for her falsely accused brother. She is a recent grad of Harvard law & ends up landing the internship of her dreams with her idol, Judge Conroy. She ends up finding out, that low & behind, Judge Conroy also happens to be the judge on her brotherโs case. She should be able to convince her of her brotherโs innocence & help her out right? Unless there is more to Conroy that meets the eyeโฆ
The plot unfolds seamlessly, with a perfect blend of cat-&-mouse games, dirty cops, blackmail, danger, & unexpected twists. @michelecampbellbooks vivid storytelling creates a gripping atmosphere, reminiscent of a blockbuster film (one I could see Tom Cruise starring in ๐)
The supporting characters, especially Judge Conroy, are well-crafted, revealing hidden depths. A wild ride of danger, blackmail, & intrigue, this book is a gem for law thriller enthusiasts. I enjoyed this riveting legal tale, & it definitely delivered!

Review of The Intern by Michele Campbell
Another solid read from Michelle Campbell. I enjoyed this one and it was a quick read for me. My favorite thing about it was my love-hate relationship with the characters. my feelings about them, flip-flopped constantly throughout the entire book and I wasnโt sure who to like, and who to dislike. It was a great story with twist and turns and I definitely recommend it for thriller lovers.
Quick synopsis:
โจMadison Rivera lands the internship of a lifetime working for Judge Kathryn Conroy. But Madison has a secret that could destroy her career. Her troubled younger brother Danny has been arrested, and Conroy is the judge on his case. โจโจWhen Danny goes missing after accusing the judge of corruption, Madisonโs quest for answers brings her deep into the judgeโs glamorous world. Is Kathryn Conroy a mentor, a victim, or a criminal? Is she trying to help Madison or use her as a pawn? And why is somebody trying to kill her? โจโจAs the two women circle each other in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game, will they save each other, or will betrayal leave one of them dead?

While this was not my favorite Michele Campbell book, it was still a solid thriller that kept me turning pages. I enjoyed the cat-and-mouse motif between the two strong female characters.

This was a great read, and delivered everything you could want in a thriller. I wasnโt sure who I could trust, and that element kept me on the edge of my seat. A great fast paced thriller that definitely holds your interest.

**This was an DRC received through NetGalley. Thank you to the publishers for the chance to read and leave an honest review.***
When I saw that Michele Campbell had dropped another book, I knew it would be on my TBR list for sure. I have read 2 of her other books and was blown away. This one did not disappoint either. I don't want to accidently give away any key moments from the book, so I'll try to keep this brief.
If you loved season 1 of How to Get Away With Murder, then this book is hands down for you! I really, really liked it but until the end of chapter 1 I was still on the fence a bit. Madison is a Harvard law student with a very promising career as a lawyer in front of her. She's young, beautiful, smart, and determined. She is hand-picked by her idol, Kathryn Conroy, to be an intern and is over the moon about it. Then she realizes she needs to come clean about a family situation that could cost her everything she's worked so hard for.
Kathryn is a federal judge with a demanding case load and a tragic personal story. She has been through a lot to get this far in her career and made some bad calls in the process. She grew up in South Boston and had a pretty rough life. She ends up under the control of some powerful people and sees Madison as the perfect means to an end.
This book is pretty fast paced and had a couple of surprises I never saw coming. Both Madison and Kathryn are strong female leads and I was here for it.
I gave this book 4 stars but only because I found myself annoyed by Madison and the way it took her a little bit longer than I would have liked to start connecting the dots and grasping the much bigger situation she was in.
