I wanted to find myself immersed in this. I love novels with wonderful character development, and this novel has that, and yet I just couldn't get into it. No matter how often I tried. And I tried several times. Alas, sometimes a book just isn't meant for a particular reader. And this reader apologizes for that.

THE TIME HAS COME by Will Leitch is meant to be a suspenseful, humorous, and compassionate novel about seven strangers. I read roughly a third of the novel and the author is still introducing those characters – one by one in separate chapters. The action is, in my view, extremely limited and, frankly, I do not have the patience to keep track of these people and their issues. Leith, author of the Edgar nominated and ALEX Award-winning How Lucky, has likely crafted a masterful ending, but I was looking for something that would grab readers more immediately – maybe in the vein of Terry Trueman’s Inside Out. Clearly other readers disagree with me: THE TIME HAS COME received a starred review from Booklist. Have a look and decide for yourself.

This was a fantastic book. It focused on seven points of view and the book slowly wove these stories together into a spectacular finish. There was so much rich storytelling and character work in this book. I loved it.

Will Leitch's "The Time Has Come" centers around a family owned pharmacy/soda shop in Athens, GA that has served as an institution in the lives of generations of families. For it's wholesome image, there are things going on at Lindbergh's and with the Lindbergh family that have caused some in the community to take notice. On the fateful day of June 24, the lives of 7 people will intersect in potential tragedy at Lindbergh's as one of them tries to uncover its secrets. Readers know from the first chapter what is coming, so the suspense is is created by Leitch giving us three-dimensional characters who go through their days not knowing what awaits them.
