This book is an Intruiging Neighborhood thriller. Stanhope, NY, is a small safe community. That is, until 9 year old Avery goes missing. The book explores the members of this neighborhood that is filled with dark secrets, lies and mystery.
This book starts off with a bang! Engaged me immediately. The plot is entertaining. I felt that Avery was portrayed older than most 9 year olds. I am rated this book 3.5/5.
Thank you to NetGallery and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

A page turner that will have you second guessing everyone in this neighbourhood! Totally bingeable and unputdownable.
A spiralling web of lies, deceit and twists unfolds in the midst of the search for missing girl, Avery Wooler.
William Wooler is a man who has it all, a wife and children and a fulfilling career as a doctor but he also has a secret. He’s been having an affair with a neighbour, Nora Blanchard, until today when she ended it.
Enraged by the shock of Nora ending their arrangement he heads home, surprised to find his younger child, Avery at home. Avery has a few behavioural problems and isn’t always an easy child. William knows he lets his anger get the best of him, like it did today when he slapped her so hard she fell to the ground when he confronted her about being home when she shouldn’t have been.
Not long after William gets a frantic call from his wife, Erin saying that Avery is missing! Was he the last to see her?
The search for Avery has ensued and the entire neighbourhood is involved, in the search and as suspects. How well did the Wooler’s really know their neighbours?

Very quick, addictive read! I finished this in a couple of hours because I genuinely could not put it down!
I was hoping for a bigger twist reveal, but did enjoy the plot development. Overall, a four star read for me!

Right from the start this was a fast-paced story of suspense with enough twists and turns to keep you hooked and wanting more. Using a familiar 'child-disappearance' plotline Ms. Lapena takes a fresh approach and tells the story from the multiple points of view of the neighbours on a small-town street. Each one is linked in some way to the parents of the missing nine-year-old child, Avery, a difficult and manipulative young girl. The story unfolds almost in real time, jumping from one household to the other at a breakneck pace. At times the detailed reflections of various characters did become a bit repetitive, but they're all so downright unreliable, you feel compelled to keep going to find out the truth about what really happened.

I was hooked from the first page of this novel, but I’ve been twisted up since a few chapters in. Thoroughly twisted up and conflicted about the characters and I didn’t know who to trust or who to believe. And then it keeps twisting. And it’ll untwist only to twist you up again the opposite way. And you guys, I can’t even talk to you about most of it because, well, spoilers.
When everyone has something to hide or an image to protect and doesn’t want anyone or anything tarnishing that image or finding out their ‘private lives,’ how do you find the real truth of someone and get to the bottom in the terrifying situation of a missing child? When the question of who could possibly take or harm a 9 year old girl is not easily answered, everyone becomes a suspect: the parents, the neighbours, the neighbour’s kid, strangers you’ve never met, suspicious people in the neighbourhood, the strange, quiet child down the street. The person who’s having an affair and doesn’t want anyone to know, the jealous spouse, the brother, the overlooked coworker…. You’ll find yourself second guessing your kids and spouse and relationships. And throughout, you’ll wonder what the person sitting beside you or down the street is capable of. And then you’ll wonder what it’s like to deal with a psychopath. To be around one and not know it or to be around one and be constantly second guessing yourself and their motives.
And even though you’ll think you have everything all sorted out, you won’t know how everything sorts itself out until the very last page.
It’s that good.

This is a very fast paced read. The POV’s switch constantly during the chapters, which took a bit to get used to again (her other books are written the same way). Once I got used to the writing style, I enjoyed how back and forth the storyline was as it kept me hooked to keep reading.
Almost all of the characters in this book were unreliable and suspicious, so I had no clue who actually did it. I was surprised by the twist and I think the ending was wrapped up perfectly.

💭 𝕄𝕪 𝕋𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤:
🤫 This was definitely a quick read for me. It has good flow and it got more interesting as the plot thickened.
🤥 The twist has occured to me early on in the book but there were so many more details about it that I wouldn't have guessed. I liked how Shari did that.
🏘️ I found there to be too many hands in the pot with the amount of people/children that were involved. I feel like a few people could have beemln removed from the storyline and the end result would have been the same. The only reason so many people would need to be involved would be if Shari was planning a sequel for this book.
👧 It was definitely disturbing and that is exactly what I was looking for.

As a dedicated fan of Shari Lapena's work, I eagerly delved into Everyone Here is Lying, and once again, Lapena did not disappoint. This twisted domestic thriller had me captivated from the very first page, offering a rollercoaster ride of suspense, secrets, and surprising connections between the characters.
One of the highlights of Lapena's writing is her ability to create characters that evoke strong emotions from readers. She expertly weaves a cast of characters that are easy to love or hate, adding an extra layer of depth to the story. I found myself constantly questioning the characters motives and hidden agendas.
The underlying mystery woven throughout the drama kept me guessing, and I found myself eagerly turning the pages to uncover the truth. Avery, the nine-year-old main character proved to be unbelievably complex. Some of her actions and statements were surprising and not entirely believable for a child her age.
Despite a few minor drawbacks, "Everyone Here is Lying" remains an engaging and thrilling read. Shari Lapena's ability to create a web of secrets and suspense is commendable, and fans of her previous works will find much to enjoy in this novel.

Avery and her family live on a quiet street, until one day, she leaves school early and hours later is declared missing. Sheri Lapena provides us with multiple suspects by telling us little bits about three families from the neighbourhood in addition to Avery’s own family. We have deceitful characters, misleading information and tragic scapegoats. We don’t know who we can trust.
The story was a straightforward, easy read. It was entertaining and with short chapters it will easily keep you wanting more. I feel it would be perfect to take to the beach or read on a road trip.

This neighborhood thriller was addicting! You find yourself questioning everyone and everything! When 9 year old Avery goes missing, everyone becomes a suspect, and the secrets all come out.
This one hooked me from the first chapter and had surprising twists. You couldn't trust anyone. It offers short chapters, a fast-paced whodunit, and a neighborhood drama.
I really enjoyed trying to solve the case and follow all the characters. I loved that it took me by surprise, and I found Avery to be a very unique and unpredictable.

Young Avery who lives in a small town goes missing one day! Who could have taken her- and who is lying?
This was another book by Shari Lapena that I was looking forward to reading. This book had my attention throughout and I read it quite quickly, even though I felt likesome of the "twists" were revealed early and somewhat predictable. I still enjoyed following Avery's story and trying to keep all of the lies straight. Overall, it was quite enjoyable!
Thank you Netgalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the ARC in return for an honest review. Looking forward to reading Shari Lapena's next book!

The flow of the grammar structure was excellent on the eyes making it an easy to finish story. Not leaving the surprises too late into the story was refreshing and engaging for me. This was a fun read that kept me guessing till the big reveal. I would recommend this for someone looking for a suburban thriller that is reliable and an easy read.

Avery is a 9 year old. Her parents would describe her as difficult, oppositional... a loner.
One day - Avery goes missing. Was she taken?
And so begins a story about a small town and the people who live there. Their secrets are slowly revealed while the detectives try to find Avery before it is too late.
Shari Lapena wrote a solid mystery - it was told in multiple points of view -which helped move the story along, without impacting the "surprise" twist.
This was a solid 3 star read -- it was fast paced, it kept you guessing and nothing felt like it was pulled out of nowhere. I would say it was ultimately a story about people, the secrets they keep and the ramifications when you're caught in a lie.
My only other Shari Lapena read was "The Couple Next Door" - and I remember feeling that it wrapped up too quickly. I will say that I really felt this was a much stronger book - it ended really well and didn't disappoint.

I debated even sharing my opinion on this book because of how much I usually love Shari Lapena books. I have rated a few of her other thrillers five stars, she’s become an auto-buy author for me, so obviously I was so excited to received an eARC of her new book! I’ve heard soooo many good reviews about it but I just didn’t really like it. 😕 there were a lot of characters to keep track of, and the story wasn’t exciting enough for me to consistently remember who was who. I felt like I was going in circles most of the time. the twists were anti-climactic and the whole ‘whodunit’ of it all just wasn’t that great. and the ending made me remove half a star because of how much I disliked it 😅
thank you Penguin Random and Doubleday Canada for providing my copy in exchange for an honest review! if you’ve read this I’d love to know what you thought!

Lapena brings us another story filled with twists and turns. On the day when Nora and William end their affair, his nine year old daughter goes missing. As the search for Avery goes on, secrets and truths come to light.
Very hard to put this one down. Very unlikeable characters and many of whom have motive. I was left guessing until the very end!

This book was not for me. I found it slow going and was not a fan of the author's writing style. I also hated the main character - a 9 year old little girl. Perhaps that is the point, as her personality is enraging. I was also super disappointed with the ending. It feels unfinished. Although this author comes highly recommended I will not likely pick up another of her books.

Incredible thriller. It grabs you by the throat from the beginning and take you on a journey on a search for a missing child. However it is not all that it may seem and I loved that. The conclusion was a bit abrupt, I wanted more. But overall a good thriller.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I haven't read a Shari Lapena book in a few years and thoroughly enjoyed this one. The nice short chapters just flew by and I was totally immersed in the mystery of what happened to Avery. The characters are interesting but not really memorable except maybe Avery herself and it's basically the plot that keeps you glued to the pages. I had a bit of difficulty attributing Avery's thoughts and scheming to a 9-year-old but then again she's not like any 9-year-old I'm familiar with. The resolution was surprising but the ending left me guessing. I'd definitely recommend this book to a friend.

I finished this book in 1 day! Shari Lapena books are auto-buys for me, so I was so excited to get a copy of this digital ARC. This is an excellent domestic thriller about the Wooler family trying to find their daughter Avery. Their perfect suburban neighbourhood is full of witnesses.. and liars. The characters were great, and I didn't see the twist coming. I couldn't put it down.

Right from the beginning. Lapena does an excellent job of giving us an up-close look into the neighbourhood of Stanhope. It's no different from your everyday suburban community — there are secrets on every street.
I consider Lapena to be the master of page-turners and plot twists. She is always great at humanizing her characters, making them believable while finding empathy at the centre of this domestic psychological thriller — while dropping twists and revelations that had me on the edge of my seat. Her method of intertwining a missing child plot with the adulterous lives of two characters in the neighbourhood adds contrasts even before she adds manipulation into the story, which all works seamlessly.
It's the contrast of the high stakes of finding the missing child character Avery, who is neurodiverse mixed with the upper-class neighbourhood, which had kept me glued to the pages furiously turning them into the night.
You'd be surprised to see how quickly each neighbour would turn on each other to protect their loved ones and keep their dirty secrets from coming to light when trouble comes knocking on their doors.
But nothing will prepare you for who took Avery Wooler and the reasoning behind it.
I found it to be Lapena's most gripping and shocking thriller yet!
My heart was racing with anticipation to find the answers to the question. Of who took Avery Wooler?
This book has resonated with me as my son developed behavioural problems at nine and was subsequently diagnosed with ADHD. I could sympathize with William and Erin Wooler with their struggles in trying to handle a child who is neurodiverse. It's both challenging and stressful and can fracture a marriage.
I highly recommend you read this if you are a fan of domestic psychological thrillers with short chapters, non-stop suspense, and plot twists.
A special thanks to Shari Lapena, Penguin, Random House Canada, and NetGalley for the ARC of Everybody Here is Lying in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
