An enjoyable book by the queen of rime Shari lapels. This clever who dunnit let me guessing right to the end

Shari Lapena has written a really quick paced enjoyable book, filled with flawed but somewhat realistic characters. The title is completely accurate as there is no character in this book that can be trusted. Great family dynamics even the awful ones. Avery is a 9 year old sociopath with ADHD, didn’t love the portrayal of ADHD it was pretty extreme. Didn’t love how the 1 Autistic boy living in the street was portrayed, he was described as odd and weird and some neighbours jumped to the conclusion that he was the criminal of the book. As a mom of 3 wonderful kiddos with autism this broke my heart a little. Lots of thrills with a twisted ending. Besides a few parts I didn’t like this was a pretty decent read.
If you’re a fan of her other books I am sure you will love this one.

I am so disappointed that I was unable to access this title as it is not available in a Kindle format. I absolutely love Shari Lapena's writing, and am certain that this latest, much anticipated read would not disappoint. If the publisher makes this file available for Kindle viewing in the future, please consider my request still very much pending, thank you!

I had a very difficult time reading this book on the NetGalley shelf app. I was unable to finish it fir a review.

This was such a twisty, fun read! It's my first by Shari Lapena, and it makes me want to seek out her backlist.

I was drawn in immediately, and I loved how reading different scenes from different characters' point of view only made me LESS sure of who was trustworthy and how it would all unfold.

I have to admit my initial thought when I got to the end was, "What?! It can't stop THERE!" But the more I think about it, the more I like that ending.

I'll be recommending this one widely. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read the eARC in advance of publication.

This was an extremely highly anticipated book for me so I went in with really high hopes! Shari Lapena is one of my favourite authors and I’m happy to say, this is one of her best books yet!!

A twisty neighbourhood thriller that I binged in less than 24 hours. A missing child in a safe quiet neighbourhood makes everyone point fingers at the people they thought they could trust. When I say twisty.. I mean TWISTY. No one is who they seem and it’s hard to decide who you’re rooting for! The setting and characters felt like you were in the story and I had SO many theories. The ending was everything, twisted, creepy and tied it all together with a shocking twist. Shari, you’re a star, I’m obsessed with you and I know I’ll be recommending this book for years!

Well this was a trip.

I was into this right from the beginning and it was hard to put down.

The story follows several characters and families that live on the same street as the police try and sort out what has happened to a missing child.

Shari was able to bring in more and more characters to the story seamlessly and it keep the pace of the story up at the same time. This is such a well executed thriller.

Highly recommend. I will be going back to read more of her books.

Sooo good! Shari Lapena does it again with another twisty, keep you in suspense novel. Shari Lapena is a great author and this novel is another hit.

This fast paced read explores a street full of secrets that are brought to light after a girl goes missing. Everyone has dark secrets that het exposed and has everyone second guessing just what they know...

There are many twists in the book that keep you guessing. The chapters are an e joable length and the story keeps you turning pages!

Even before 9 year old Avery Wooler is declared missing, there are many secrets along Connaught Street, in safe, suburban Stanhope. Is everyone here telling the truth? Or are they lying?

I was so excited to receive this galley of Lapena's new book that I couldn't help but read it right away! Like my favourites of Lapena's work, this thriller focuses on a family and their neighbourhood, revealing bit by bit just how much lies under the picture perfect surface. We are thrown right into the complex dynamic of the Wooler family, making this book compulsively readable from the first chapter. The character development is lighter in this one than in Lapena's previous books, but the plot is so fast-paced that I found this worked to keep things moving.

I must say, I found the inclusion of neurodivergent children in the book a bit unnecessary, especially with the parents of said children spending a lot of time emphasizing how “difficult” they were. Including and naming these children's diagnoses could have been excluded and it would have not made a difference to the plot, and would not have reinforced how “challenging” and “frustrating” neurodivergent children are.

I appreciate that Lapena's books deal with twisted relationships and unsettling characters while keeping the on-page violence to a minimum, which can be hard to stomach in more intense thrillers without knowing what will happen next. The twist in this one really worked for me, and while the ending was a bit rushed, it still left me satisfied. This is a great read in one sitting, race to the finish read.

Great mystery where all the characters have secrets. Lapena often makes unlikeable characters and most of them would fit that category. I found the jealous husband's thoughts too extreme. I could see him wanting revenge but not planning his wife's murder. I liked the conniving missing Avery. She reminded me a little of the little girl in The Push by Ashley Audrain. Dangerous little children seems to be trending in books right now. (I just finished reading Everything She Feared by Rick Mofina.) I loved the ending. Avery was quick thinking but she really misspoke, and probably couldn't talk her way out of the situation. The thinking of the "kidnapper/conspirator" is a little unclear. I'm not sure what she would have gained by killing Avery.

I was so excited and so grateful to have received Everyone Here is Lying by Shari Lapena. Lapena is one of my favorite Canadian gems and I am beyond excited to have received her latest book from Penguin Random House Canada.

Avery Wooler is a 9 year old girl who is a bit of a troublemaker. She has been struggling at school and at home and on this particular day she is kicked out of after school choir and she chooses to walk home alone without letting anyone know. Instead of coming home to an empty house, she is met by her father who has recently had an affair that ended. He is not in a good place. Avery coming home early is the cherry on top of his not so great day and he loses his temper in an awful way. Several hours later, Avery is missing and the whole town is looking for her. Did her father make the biggest mistake of his life? Did she run away? Was she kidnapped? Read this one to find out!

Lapena always writes twisty and unpredictable books. She sends her books in so many different directions that I can never fully suspect how it will end. I love her typically short chapters and nail biting finales. I also have grown to love the more open ended endings. I think this makes her story writing unique and different then other authors who write in similar styles. I really enjoyed this book as much as I have enjoyed the rest. If you love a good past paced thriller with short chapters and many twisting turns- you will love this one. This one comes out July 20th!

Was so excited to get this book in my hands as I am a huge fan of this author. Once again the author has written a captivating psychological thriller that I could not put down. I was hooked within the first chapter and devoured it in 2 days. The title says it all Everyone here is lying in this cute idyllic neighborhood and lives will get turned upside down everywhere. Everyone will question everything. I’m not sure what to think of the young female lead, although disturbed comes to mind.

Shari Lapena has created another crafty story of family intrigue, leaving you wondering which characters are the most nefarious. Obviously, from the title, we know that several people have things they want to conceal, but how relevant are these lies to the the missing girl's disappearance? Avery is a challenging girl who makes it difficult to have empathy for, leaving the reader to wonder if someone has done her harm because of her actions, if she has created the scenario herself, or if she really is innocent of the danger she finds herself in. Finger-pointing in several directions, the story wraps up well, with no one really getting away with anything, despite the lies they all tell.

Another smash book from Shari, one of my favourite authors. I loved the twists and turns that just kept coming. I love a book with some crazy characters and this did not disappoint!

Where has Avery gone? After William (her father) hits her one afternoon she goes missing.
The town of Stanhope if flung into this mystery. Where has little Avery gone ? Is she still alive? Can they find her before it's too late?

So many neighbors in this town and so many secrets they are hiding. What is really going on in this town?

You will be rushing through the pages trying to figure out what is going on. With an ending I didn't see coming. Although I admit it was abrupt but the more I think on it the more my imagination runs wild.

I really enjoyed this one!

I thought it was very well paced and left you guessing about what could have happened to Avery. It had an interesting cast if characters but it was easy enough to tell all the characters apart.

I really enjoyed the writing style and short chapters, I loved the omniscient third person narrator as it helped us dive into the characters without it being in too many POVs.

It lost a star because I felt the main twist was rather unrealistic and a bit of a let down (and certain big leads were explained away in a rushed manner late in the book). I also felt like it wasn't as fleshed out as it could have been due to the amount of characters/side plot issues. Nevertheless, it was still a fun quick read.

I look forward to reading more Shari Lapena in the future!

It’s worrisome how fascinated I am by reading about lives that unravel in close proximity!

I seem to be held captive by how neighbours’ lives intersect, how they witness much of what goes on yet feel the need to keep a distance out of courtesy. Lapena seems to have honed in on my obsession and splits open the Stanhope neighbourhood to reveal that it’s no different than any other suburban neighbourhood - there are secrets on every street.

I consider Lapena the master of the unputdownable page-turner because she is always good at finding empathy at the center of her suspense while managing to orchestrate twists and revelations that have my jaw dropping! Her method of blending the missing child plotline with the adulterous lives of the neighbours contrasts well even before Lapena adds a generous dose of manipulation. This all works really well against the seemingly sleepy suburban life portrayed in this novel. In fact, it’s the contrast of the high-stakes missing person case against the carefully curated upper-income neighbourhood that kept me glued to the pages….especially when neurodivergent characters are added into the mix!

If the walls of the homes in the Stanhope neighbourhood could talk, you’d be aware of the backbiting, hypocrisy, mamma drama, and gossiping. You’d be shocked at how quickly they turn on each other. You’d also be privy to the secrets and the subtle side eyes as neighbours give each other as they walk by. BUT nothing will prepare you for the truth. You’ll never guess who took Avery Wooler.

If you decide to pick up this book and visit the neighbourhood, be forewarned: William Wooler is not the only one attempting to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes!

This psychological suspense with a neighbourhood setting is definitely worth reading.

My firs comment is the grammar. I keep going back to Lapena books but I swear her grammar is getting worse and worse. Short, incomplete sentences. Lots of sentences starting with but or and, which is something I was always taught not to do. Just not for those of us who appreciate good grammar.

The story itself was fast paced and interesting enough. Too many character perspectives however, which was somewhat unnecessary.

Doctor William Wooler comes home early from his affair after his mistress broke it off with him to find his nine year old daughter home early from school. She shouldn’t be home, and shouldn’t be home alone, and he looses his temper with her. That night, when it’s revealed she’s missing, the police begin the search. Did William hurt his daughter, or did someone else have the opportunity to do so?

Everyone Here is Lying will have you hooked from the beginning to the surprise ending.

The community of Stanhope is a place that sounds like a great place to live and raise a family.

Then you meet some of the not so nice characters and indeed most of them are lying.

Secret after secret and 9 year old Avery is missing . Avery has her own secrets and demons.

Who can you believe , who is the hiding the most and where is Avery

The world will pause as you race to find out .

Shari Lapena always holds your attention from the first to last page and Everyone Here is Lying is no exception.

Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC. This is an unsettling soap opera in the suburbs. It pulled my heartstrings as a mom too. Some characters are awful, and some are nice and do bad things. The odd feeling is that the characters could be our neighbours! Each of Shari's stories is digested slowly, savour each one.

Shari Lapena is an author I can always count on for a fun thriller. You kind of know what you are going to get with her, but I appreciate that. This book was nothing different. It was a quick, easy to read thriller. It never got to serious, but I did like the twists and turns. The setting is a neighbourhood and I always like thrillers based in neighbourhoods. My big gripe with this book was the main character, Avery who is 9 years old. Some of the thoughts and ideas she had just seemed way off base for what I know of 9 year olds. I don’t think Lapena did a good enough job setting it up for her characters actions to make sense.

Overall, this was a good thriller and if you like Shari Lapena books you will definitely enjoy this one too.
