My first encounter with this series was with the British paperback of this, and… well, was potentially my last. It was fine, to an extent, the bum fixation not really leading to too much scatology, but I thought there would be a bit more to it. The verse narrative just lets rhythm go out the window, as rhymes can be in couplets, other rhyming schemes – even interrupt themselves with internal rhymes. The narrative kind of hits on several chapters, discussing what would get the bum concerned shifted a bit quicker, then what races it could compete in, and then we get the 'drama' of the final event, which ends really quite limply – at least it does to a newbie here. It's enough to be amusing and entertaining at a base level, but certainly no more, and hence certainly no more than three stars.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I was expecting Butts on THE RUN to be full of toilet humor, but I was way off base. I loved this story. It was imaginative yet realistic in the children's goals to get faster.

Dawn McMillan’s books first came to world fame through a laughing Scottish Granny reading I Need a New Bum on YouTube. Before I retired as a youth librarian, I had story time audiences gleefully laughing along as I read the I Need a New Butt version. I dare you to read the slightly naughty butt and fart rhymes in author Dawn McMillan’s new series without smiling.

The butt is really slow in the race and they come up with ways it could get faster. Of course youngsters would love a book about butts!!

A quick read silly story that is sure to engage even reluctant readers! This series is cute and this one is a great read aloud for classes at the end of the year when they are harder to engage!

This is a fun, silly book for kids with great illustrations! I love the added verse and rhyming aspect, this could be used within a poetry unit in the classroom.

It is no secret that I love these books. The author does such a good job telling a funny and relatable story. The illustrations with the random farts keep the kids laughing. And while these books do not have a true cadence and some of the rhymes are a stretch, it all works and comes rolling of the tongue in a slick way. This butt is going to continue to read these books as long as the author continues to write them.

I did not enjoy this book as much as the author's other book I Need a New Butt! While the illustrations were entertaining, I did not find the story very enthralling or fun.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.

Let's face it - books about butts are funny for kids (and many adults). This is the third butt book by Dawn McMillan and its okay. Kids who liked the first two would like this one as well. I did find the first one to be the best, however, they are all entertaining.

I read this book to my preschool class and they roared laughing! We have read i need a new butt and we were excited to get approved to read this one. My children in my class asked me to read the book multiple times. Definitely a must read! Silly and fun!

This was as silly as one would expect from McMillan’s BUTTS series, but fresh enough to keep it interesting. This will be a huge hit with an elementary school audience.

“My legs are long,
My knees are strong,
But my butt needs something
to move it along!”

This is a delightful book that kids will love. The determined hero tries hard to get in shape as he enters into a cross-country race.

On your mark, get set...GO! He's ready...he's steady... and it's blast off time! But...he quickly discovers that he is coming in last because his butt is so slow. Oh no! What can he do?

He tries different ideas that might give him an advantage and win the race. Would these things work if he attaches them to his butt: a big shiny engine? a kite? balloons? a swarm of bees? some strategic exercises, and many more? Will any of his imaginative and creative ideas cause him to be the winner?

This book will have kids giggling and entertained from beginning to end. I highly, highly recommend it as well as the whole series.
