Another excellent novel by Don Bentley! Jack Ryan Jr. is the team leader when things don't quite go as planned. Time is of the essence to save someone very close to Junior and President Ryan.

Although it took a while for me to get into it, Don Bentley's Flash Point is a very solid thriller. Bentley continues to show how great of a storyteller he is. His ability to create new characters and give "background" characters a more prominent role jazzes up the series and opens up more possibilities moving forward. For me, the best part of the book are the Green Beret snipers, Cary and Jad. You could build a series around those guys and I would read every word. Bentley has roared onto the thriller scene and it is easy to see why.

Thank you to G.P. Putnam's Sons and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of Flash Point!

The Summer edition of the Jack Ryan Universe is back with Flash Point. Junior is tasked with running a team in Germany with a couple of new recruits. It is meant to ease Junior into a leadership role while testing out the new recruits. Soon after the surveillance begins, things go awry as one of the Chinese Scientists they are watching is kidnapped. Things heat up quickly with Junior and part of his team eventually heading to Manila. Meanwhile The United States and China are on the brink of war in the South China Sea.

This book was a quick read because I didn’t want to put it down. The action is nonstop whether it be Junior and his team or the two super powers, facing off at sea. Flash Point does stray from the typical Jack Ryan Junior summer thriller in that it is more than just a Jack Ryan Junior thriller. This is not a bad thing at all, and I like how Mr. Bentley brought in more of the Jack Ryan Universe. Jack Senior is very involved and both Dom, Ding, and Clark have some time. Typically those three gets at most a page or two, but here they were more a part of the action. The way they are integrated into the story works well as they are involved, but Junior is still the main character.

This book is well worth the read. If you are a Jack Ryan Universe fan, you will like it even more. Thank you to @Netgalley @Bentleydonb and Penguin Group Putnam for an advance copy for an honest review.

Flash Point is one of Don Bentley’s most adrenaline-fueled thrillers in the Clancyverse, with high stakes for our beloved characters with fantastic character developments to usher in a new age of the franchise.

Jack Ryan Jr. is putting on his leadership pants as he takes his team over the globe to investigate aggressive Chinese tactics from kidnapping scientists to midair collisions that all serve some mysterious mission that Ryan must get on top of before the threat hits close to home, particularly the members of The Campus.

Don Bentley wastes no time in heating up the conflicts with cutthroat action sequences as the narrative kicks off with an exciting shootout and an adrenaline-pumping immersive bike chase in Germany. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. There’s submarine action, aerial action, and an absolute beast of a climax as Ryan Jr. guns and runs to save a certain Campus member from gruesome death.

What makes Flash Point such an impressive entry in the Clancyverse is the sense of mortal danger that’s instilled in the characters and ultimately seeps through to readers. Quite often, thrillers fall into the rut of having the protagonist accomplish the most ludicrous feats without any palpable dangers faced. Don Bentley takes some well-timed risks with the characters to deliver a high stakes narrative. It also serves to place Ryan Jr. in a leadership role for fresh blood in the series, one that puts him in a new light just as he’s recuperating from the gruesome events of the last book and also lays the foundation of a new chapter in his life as he evaluates his priorities.

Flash point is an excellent thriller to supercharge you with state-of-the-art technology in tandem with great action and fantastic new characters to carry this series further into the promising future.

Author Don Bentley continues to enhance and expand his version of the military thriller reminding all of the late and great Tom Clancy. Flash Point contains all the ingredients that make for compelling reading and unpredictability. Jack Ryan, Junior is once again tasked with combating an unknown and mysterious enemy, Chinese aggression, and a multi-level conspiracy that threatens world peace. All of these facets congeal to produce a tasty, reliable, and exciting techno-thriller that will keep readers involved until the end of the book.

Jack Ryan picks up where he left off trying to save the United States and the world from the bad characters of other countries. They have some new characters who are watching his back who has been approved by his father. This book may change the projection of how this series has been written. Great book! I can't wait to see what happens next!

With two prospective Campus shooters along on a seemingly routine mission, things go sideways, Jack and the two shooters have to bail out and are ordered to go to Manila by the boss. There they find the rest of the Campus operatives and soon find out that they are to retrieve a piece of important gear that some Filipino fishermen snagged. Things are soon completely out of hand and John Clark has been abducted, some of the others are out of commission, and now it is all up to Jack Jr. to lead the way in solving this violent puzzle and to get John Clark back alive.

I've read all of the Clancy series and I think that this is the best one by far. A must read.

Flash Point is an interesting novel that now includes a love interest for Jack Ryan Jr. Author Don Bentley has written a good tale. I am mostly interested in the Campus characters and what happens to them. Even though there have been many novels in the series, I still look forward to seeing what the Campus and Jack, Jr. are up to.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.

Bentley continues to knock it out of the park with his JRJ novels. The action is non-stop, the technology involved is fascinating, and the plot sees JRJ is an unfamiliar and uncomfortable role within The Campus. Another winner for Mr. Bentley. Looking forward to Weapons Grade as well as his foray into the world of Mitch Rapp! Thanks to the publisher for an ARC via NetGalley.

Thank you once again for the advanced digital ARC!

Don Bentley is a fine thriller writer, and he has produced here a solid if unspectacular entry in the long-running Jack Ryan Jr. series. But here's the thing: Don Bentley is a far, far better writer than this title lets him be.

I know I'm edging toward heresy now, but I'm beginning to wonder if the Jack Ryan Jr series isn't pretty much played out. The formula is so predictable and the structure is so rigid that a writer as good as Bentley is completely wasted on it. This book could have been AI generated, and don't tell me the publisher isn't already thinking about doing exactly that in the future.

You want a really fine Don Bentley thriller? Read FORGOTTEN WAR. You want a predictable formula that feels like it's been written a few dozen times before? Read FLASH POINT.

Don Bentley returns this year with an encore of book releases.

April saw the release of FORGOTTEN WAR, the fourth book in the Matt Drake series, which begins when Drake’s best friend, Frodo, is arrested for committing a war crime. DIA operative Matt Drake must travel to Afghanistan to find the one man who can clear Frodo’s name. The novel takes place during the 2021 US withdrawal from Afghanistan. It is fiction, but many of the operations depicted were real or based on actual events.

Bentley’s second 2023 release, TOM CLANCY’S FLASH POINT (May 23), is his third book about Jack Ryan Jr. This time out, a benign surveillance operation takes a deadly turn when Jack Jr. discovers a new enemy whose mission is to destroy The Campus.

Well this book was a goid read, it had the usual, action packed, suspense, intrigue, and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was interesting and flowed nicely but what I wasn't to keen on was everything was explained in overboard?! I would get through a paragraph and be like um what did I just read?! It was almost like Charlie browns principal over the inter com! So I guess this book wasn't really for me but I'm sure some will understand it better I guess?! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
