A fantastic read with a stunning front cover and a story and characters to match. I couldn't put it down, I loved it

I wasn’t sure of this at first, then I was desperate to find out what happened to Nadine.
Nadine discovers her mother wasn’t who she was led to believe, then her life changes forever. She uses her dancing skills to get her through some of the challenges life puts her way. Some of them are quite descriptive! Be warned.
It’s not my favourite Lizzie book.

Another great read from Lizzie. This was a lovely saga full of interesting characters and I loved this one. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Brilliant! I loved this book by Lizzie Lane who writes with such strength of compassion when dealing with a powerful subject such as this. Her characters leap off the page.
I highly recommend.

War has broken out in 1939 and this story is first based in India. It follows the life of one woman and how her life was changed by her father. Very well written and interesting read. 5 stars

Oh my gosh this one made me cry buckets in the end.
This is the first story from the view of the prisoners of the Japanese after pearl harbour that I have read it was heart breaking and I couldn't stop reading glad it had a happy ending.
I'm glad it was a hard story to read and not all prettied up for the modern day world.
It felt like I was there watching what was going on and not being able to help the women who found themselves in this position.
It was an amazing and beautiful story. Well done lizzie Lane for writing about something so deep and horrible

I really enjoyed Lane's Women in War, I found the characters believable, well characterised, and just the right amount of detail.

After fainding out that her Indian nanny was really her mother, Nadine is determined to homour her by continuing to dance. Ultimately her father finds out and marries her off to a man from Singapore. Nadine makes the best of her life always remembering her mother's saying that life is precious and you should protect it however you can. This is brought home when Singapore is invaded by the Japanese during WWII. NAdine is captured during her escape and choses to become a prostitute for Japanese officers in order to surevive. By using her cunning and intelligence she manages to protect herself and help the other girls at the same time.

Her life is harsh, but is made bearable by her love for Genda a Japanese American Major.

I don't want to spoil the plot, there there is a lot of heartbreak (I cried buckets) but ultimately there is a happy ending

This did what I was hoping for in a historical novel, it did everything that I was hoping for from the description. The characters were what I hoped for in this time-period, it worked in the time itself. Lizzie Lane had a great writing style and it worked with the genre. I'm glad I got to read this.

"She dared to speak. ‘Madam, I have seen pictures of geishas and other Japanese ladies and they are very pale indeed. Am I not correct in assuming that their men folk prefer clear white complexions? Therefore, do you think it would make sense if the skins of your investment be preserved from the sun?"

An absolutely thrilling and romantic story of two people who find love and a place to belong during WW2. It was incredibly hard to put the book down and when it was finished I still wanted more.
