Another great book in the Jasmine Toguchi series. I purchased a copy for the classroom and readers are adding it to their TBR (to be read) lists. Highly recommend for teachers that are diversifying their stacks! Thank you Macmillan Children's Publishing Group, Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR) and Net Galley for the advanced reader copy.

I actively seek out diverse books for my classroom and have several of the Jasmine Toguchi series already. I was very excited to see a new one out and get the opportunity to preview it. Another great installment in Jasmine's life and I can't wait to purchase a hardcopy for my students this year!

I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
Even though the book is part of a series, you don't need to read the others to enjoy this one. Jasmine is an enjoyable character.

Jasmine and family continue their trip through Japan,. She learns more about herself, her mom, and her Japanese relatives as they visit the island where her mom spent summer vacations as a child. As an adult reader, I really feel like all of Jasmine's Japanese adventures could have been compiled in one book. But for chapter book readers, the breakdown is perfect, telling her story in manageable chunks. Even as an adult, I look forward to her next escapades and her slow steps into maturity.

I love this little series. Jasmine Toguchi is a Japanese American girl who is visiting her grandma in Japan for the first time. It was fun to explore Japan through her eyes. This is a great early chapter book for emerging readers, high first grade readers and above.
