Such a beautiful picture book with a great storyline and message. The illustrations are so simple yet creative and appealing! I loved Walter’s story, too. So many kids will be able to relate to feeling shy and scared to use their voices. I really think the message will resonate with adults and kids. Really looking forward to seeing the physical book in store and putting my Staff Pick sticker on it :)

A precious telling of a shy crocodile that fins his voice when he needs to be brave and speak up for others.

This is a sweet book about learning to use your voice when you need to stand up for what is right. It's not always easy, especially for those who prefer to keep to themselves. This book shows children that's it's okay to step out of your comfort zone when you need to, but it's also okay to stay in your comfort zone.

This picture book has sweet illustrations and a cute, lovable crocodile main character. Walter is very shy and often hides down in the water, and sometimes he feels like he can't join in with what other animals are doing, even when he wants to. In this story, he finds his voice while standing up for a friend, and he discovers the courage to interact and play more with other animals. The book strikes a nice balance by genuinely validating shy children and also showing how they can move beyond unwanted limitations.

Walter finds his voice is a must read for all kids! The story will help show shy kids how to be comfortable and that it’s ok to be shy, as well as help outgoing kids understand shyness. The watercolor drawings are a perfect addition to this story.

Thank you, Netgalley and Red Comet Press, for the advance reading copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book was an immediate hit. We were drawn in by the cover and engaging illustrations, but the sweet story of the crocodile learning to come out of his shell to help protect his friend was such a treasure. I love that there was still a focus on him staying true to himself-- such a gem of a book we can't wait to have in hardcover!

Walter Finds His Voice by Ann Kim Ha is the charming and inspiring story of Walter, a painfully shy crocodile who one day finds the courage to speak up in order to defend a friend who is being mistreated.

This is a beautiful tale of courage and friendship in an often intimidating world, one in which we are trying to find our own place. Highly recommended for all.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Red Comet Press for an ARC.

I received an electronic ARC from Red Comet Press through NetGalley.
Readers meet Walter on the first page though they may have to look hard to see him. Walter feel shy and gets anxious so stays hidden in the water rather than fully engaging with his friends. It takes an act of bravery to defend a friend to help Walter see he can speak up for himself and be part of the group. From there, readers see him gain confidence and join in activities and fun. I appreciate the author showing that he still "keeps one foot in the water" for his own security. This affirms the wide variety of emotions readers experience.

Great book about normalizing shyness for kids. My kids loved the side characters and the pretty pictures and my shy kid really connected to the story

I LOVED this book! The art is wonderful. I have many shy and anxious students and I love how Walter is big but shy and finds his voice being a friend. I am always on the lookout for short books to prompt discussion with my kindergarten class and this book fits the bill! I like to find books that address shyness and anxiety because I see both a lot in the classroom. I thought this book was delighful!
