This book is the most beautiful painting ‘how to’, featuring simple and more complex florals. The ideas the artist suggests are so accessible that you can pick up your paintbrush or felts and get going straight away. It covers basic colour theory, patterns, and detail, so is completely suitable for a beginner, as well as the more experienced artist. Each example starts simply, and builds up in detail, making it achievable for all. The examples given are beautifully done and an absolute pleasure to look at. Each page is stunning.
Would definitely recommend.

Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review.

This is a lovely workbook, but offers sparse instruction. This books strengths are in the beautiful watercolors to be filled in and expanded upon by the reader/ artist with pen and ink. However, in my opinion, this workbook would have been much more useful with some explanation of how to create this kind of work by tilting wet watercolors and discovering what random shapes present themselves on the page.

Readers are advised to examine the book in full before purchase. This workbook style would not be appropriate for library purchase.

I am in love with the patterns provided with all the colours and hues. However, I feel there should be more descriptions for each page at least where different designs are being introduced.

I appreciate the introduction of the tools that would be required in the water colour process. But I am a bit disappointed with all the patterns without any details given in the later parts of the book.

Thank you, Quarto Publishing Group- Walter Foster Publishing, for the advance reading copy.

This is a very short book but I found it very inspirational. I have always loved to doodle around coffee stains in my daily planner but somehow never made the connection that you could do the same thing more purposefully with watercolor. Duh! I struggle with watercolor and this is a way I think I can really enjoy it.

There are several examples of different ways to draw on top of watercolor backgrounds with example shapes and designs in the first half of the book. The second half has example watercolor backgrounds to practice on and inspire further watercolor exploration.

This is one of the shortest art books I've read recently but it's also the one I think I will get the most use out of and it has definitely inspired me. I'm ready to break out my watercolors immediately and think I shall go do just that. I think my kiddo would really enjoy it as well.

Highly recommend if you struggle with watercolor but love to doodle like me and are looking for a more unconventional approach than the standard methods taught.

*Thanks to NetGalley, Quarto, and Walter Foster Publishing for providing an early copy for review.

What a beautiful book! I will be waiting for my personal copy! This created a canvas for water color and drawing that was not intimidating. I liked the tips at the beginning and would greatly enjoy doodling my way through this title! Because of the doodle factor, I don't think it would work in my library, but it will be a great book to gift!

I received an ebook copy of this from NetGalley in order to check it out and leave a review if I'd like to. All opinions are my own.

While it is a bit more difficult to review an ebook version of this type of book, I could see what the intent of the book is. This book allows you to start with pages already painted or colored with watercolors and add your own designs over the colors. There is a few tutorial pages showing you different techniques you can use to create your own artwork with the pages. There are also some explanations of the different tools you can use.

I feel like this could be a fun and relaxing book to own. You can look at the different watercolor paintings and find the shapes and designs in them to then outline or create. It is a way to be creative without having to start from scratch and come up with the colors yourself.

I would recommend this book to someone that is not looking for a step-by-step type tutorial-style of book. This is more a way to get your creative juices flowing or to just enjoy a relaxing day drawing what you want onto a pretty watercolor background.

The cover is very colourful and is what drew me to the book. It's a lovely technique. When reading you would to get your art supplies and get started. The instructions were well explained, however the instructional part was a bit short, since the biggest part of the book contained practice pages.

This is a cute book for those that love doodling.. I’m reviewing the e-book, but this book supposedly has thick paper so you can doodle right on the pages. It shows you different types of doodles and even faces. It has watercolor swatches throughout so you can doodle your creations right over the watercolors. Then, it has several pages alternating between doing your own watercolor and then watercolors for doodling over.

Love the color palette. The narrative is easy to follow and encouraging, "follow your feelings." I love the concept of color first and then inking especially for subjects that can be challenging. However, the loose and free watercolor are beautiful and I like this style as well. The inking/drawing is a little limited, however there is enough to get you started.

I picked up this book hoping for some inspiration to start a new hobby. I was happily surprised to learn that reverse coloring means that you start with colors on a page and draw lines on top of it to complete the picture. I added this to my list of books to buy because I think it will be a perfect way to relax while sitting at my children's practices.

Gorgeous and unique concept book where you can doodle over watercolor art. I’ve never seen this before and Zi think it is a great relaxation and self care tool.

This is a color in reverse book as the colors are filled in but the outlines are not. The book still details watercolor technique. It's an interesting take on watercolors and how to achieve the desired effect.

This is a nice and easy way to learn more about watercolors. It also has some really nice looking photos.
Overall I would like to have a physical copy as well!

Slightly disappointed. I'd expected a how-to book and not an art book of watercolour pictures. There was barely any content demonstrating techniques and I feel beginners to watercolour would be really disappointed with this.

Color in Reverse is a beautiful book to help guide the artist to drawing fun flowers and other designs. I wish there was more instruction on the drawing part for beginner artists like me. I think artists with some experience will get more enjoyment of this book. It should explain its more of a workbook!

This watercolour workbook is beautifully designed. The technique is well explained. It is however a workbook with a limited amount of instructional pages and a lot of practice pages.

This book starts with a super warm and welcoming forward from the author, with Nied expressing joy that you have picked up the book and are looking to explore it through coloring in reverse. An introduction section that starts the reader off with different approaches to coloring in reverse through examples like using a one-line method, drawing faces, animals, etc. The watercolor pages have a variety of designs and colors that the consumer could spend hours interacting with the colorful pages and have complete freedom to be drawn on.

This book wasn’t what I thought it would be. I thought it was an instructional book for painting watercolor flowers but it is a sort of reverse coloring book where you are supposed to use a black pen to draw over her painting. Some of them are obviously flowers and some are just watercolor designs. She goes into a bit of how to draw flowers, birds, people, trees, etc over the paintings but it’s sort of just “now copy this darling bird” and “now draw a bunch of faces over these splotches” sort of magic. Most of the book is her paintings to draw over. Inexplicably, the left page is just the same doodled flowers every time and then the right side is various very pretty watercolor paintings. They are washy and vague so you can provide the details with your pen.

If this is affordably priced, I think it could be a lot of fun if you have the talent. It is consumable though, along the lines of an adult coloring book with extra instructional material.

I read a temporary digital copy of this book via NetGalley.
