Thank you to Netgalley and the author for allowing me to read this book.
The book was cute and provided a good example of how to compromise. However, it felt a bit stilted and like it was written as a classroom resource. I could see it being used as a reading activity and then used to explore the social learning of compromising and working as a team. But I would not promote it as a book to read for pleasure.

Horse and Zebra Bake A Cake is a cute chapter book for young readers. The book simple text that is easy to read and comprehend. The illustrations are black and white, but still fun and engaging. The think about it section at the end of the book is great to help children learn critical thinking skills.

Thank you, North Star Editions - Jolly Fish Press, for the advance reading copy.

This is such a cute refreshing chapter book for very young readers. I find the characters quite enjoyable and the writing really accessible for the age group.

The illustrations are amazingly detailed and well done for the chapter book.

Will definitely recommend.

I read this book to my daughter. She really enjoyed this book. Izzy especially enjoyed the ending where the cake stand reopened with improved cakes. She thought the book could use a few more pictures but says all young kids would enjoy reading this book.

A great, simple story for kids learning to read! The sentences are simple and straightforward. The illustrations are simple but cute black and white images, and will help kids get context while reading. The "Think about it" section in the end is a great way for kids to practice critical thinking skills and to connect what they read to real life. It also shows how friends can work together and learn their strengths and how to compromise. The optional activity with the recipe is a nice touch!

Zebra and Horse are back for another adventure. Horse likes to bake. Zebra is brilliant at coming up with bright ideas. Together they decide to open up a bake wagon. At first, their business is going great, all the animals in town want to buy their oatcakes, but over time the animals grow tired of the plain oatcakes. Zebra and Horse have to create new varieties of cakes. Zebra adds sprinkles, chocolate chips, eggplant, etc. Together they bake the best cakes that aren't too plain and learn to compromise.

A delightful little book for young readers just starting to read. This book teaches children to accept differences in others and find their original interests, as well as illustrates an example of compromising when solving problems with others. I would recommend this book to young readers in kindergarten or first grade. The pictures are simple but fun because the animal characters are a hit with most kindergarten children.

My 4 year old loved Horse and Zebra - even before we got to the question prompts at the end, she declared she likes to be WILD like Zebra, ha! We also bake together a lot, so the theme was loved. A lesson on learning to compromise is an excellent one for a children's book.. it isn't always easy for kids to understand that and this book presented it in a fun and easy way. Highly recommend!

Thank you to North Star Editions, Jolly Fish Press and NetGalley for this ARC!

Horse and Zebra Bake a Cake is an adorable story and would be perfect for young readers. Horse and Zebra are good friends but have very different personalities. When they decide to open a cake wagon to sell Horse's oatcakes, their differing opinions start to cause issues. But they eventually learn to compromise and become successful. It's a cute story with a great message. I love the "extras" at the end of the book. There's discussion questions you can ask your children and a baking activity. My 3 and 5 year olds really enjoyed this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and North Star Editions for allowing me to be an early reader. All opinions are my own.
