I'm an advocate of remote work so that's what drew me to this book. "The Long-Distance Team" offers a comprehensive guide for leaders and managers seeking to optimize the performance and success of their remote teams. It covers a range of topics, from team design and trust-building to addressing challenges and maximizing productivity in a remote work environment.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC to read and review.

I got a digital galley of this book via NetGalley.

What I liked about the book:

1. The book tackles a subject that is, well, having a moment. Almost every leader today is thinking about this topic. So, to release a book that can help these leaders in their pursuit of creating better teams is good.
2. While the core idea of the book is simple, it is still impactful when put in use. The authors actually lay out a very detailed plan on how exactly to do so.
3. This is a very practical book. If leaders and teams were to take the questions that are posed in the book and sincerely think about them and answer them, they would make significant progress.

What I thought was missing:

1. The thing I missed in the book was actual stories of teams having used their model and found success. While this is not super critical but since they are in the business of delivering these as services, I thought they would have examples and case studies of how this model helped their clients.. They do use hypothetical characters and situations to set up the various chapters, which is ok but not really ideal.

Overall, I think this is a practical book for you if you are trying to find ways to change how your teams function in the new world of hybrid teams.

Great tools for people who will work with or within predominantly remote teams and organizations. Many books on teams try to tell you all there possibly is to know on teams, this book simply focuses on team design and team culture with an emphasis on how this applies to remote teams. The questions provided help guide you in designing your team and establishing a team culture. Everything outlined in the book not highly theoretical and can reasonably be put to practice. Great book for aspiring team managers facing the model way of working.
