I am unable to provide feedback on this novel. It was very difficult to get into because I found the writing style to be overly descriptive and a bit of a word salad. Maybe if I were in a different mood it would be easier to read.

"There's No Coming Back from This" by Ann Garvin is an emotional rollercoaster of love, loss, and the strength of human bonds. Garvin's characters grapple with life's uncertainties and heartaches, exploring the depths of their connections. This novel is a poignant reminder that sometimes, healing and resilience come from the unlikeliest places, and there's hope even in the face of tragedy.

Poppy Lively feels invisible to everyone, and when her accountant takes off with her life savings she is on the verge of losing her home when an ex-boyfriend offers her a job on a film set. When she stumbles upon corruption she relies on everyone underestimating her in order to discover who is the culprit and she must decide whether to keep her mouth or not.

1) Poppy Lively is such a cute character name - I loved it! (But also, idk why so many people in the book questioned if it was actually her real name or not - it's not that weird of a name??)
2) This book had so many side plots but the actual "main" plot felt like nothing actually happened? Everything was just kind of resolved within a week??
3) How is Poppy getting actors to fall in love with her within a week?
4) WHY ARE THEY ACTING LIKE PEOPLE FROM WISCONSIN DON'T KNOW WHAT CIVILIZATION IS? It's not like they're from Kansas or something.

Cute lil read but a little too boring for my liking.

This is my first novel by Ann Garvin and I enjoyed it very much. It was fun and suspenseful as well. Poppy looses everything to a crooked person she hires to help her with her business. She always does what is expected and I loved how she grows into a better stronger person thru the story. Lots of fun interesting characters along the way.

This is a truly enjoyable read about a plucky, endearing middle-aged heroine. Poppy undoubtedly grows through her experiences, yet she is never portrayed as incapable or pathetic. There simply aren’t enough stories like this about likable, capable middle-aged women having new adventures. 3-1/2 out of 5 stars.

I usually enjoy Lake Union Publishing books and authors but this one missed the mark for me. Kept trying to plow through but something with the tone felt off for me. I'm sure others will really enjoy it but I just kept thinking I'm not the target market for this book.

Ann Garvin, the Author of “There’s No Coming Back From This,” has written a heartwarming, captivating, witty, and delightful novel. The genres for this novel are Contemporary Fiction, Women’s Fiction, Chick-Lit, Romance and Fiction.

I love the wit, empathy, and compassion the author uses in her well-written story. Ann Garvin vividly describes the scenery, props, plot, and colorful and dramatic characters. The author describes her characters as complex, complicated, flawed, quirky, and likable. Even the adorable dog in this story has a unique personality. Some characters exhibit toxic behavior. You’ll have to read to form your conclusions.

I love the name that Ann Garvin has given to the protagonist, Poppy Lively. Poppy hasn’t had the best of luck. She is unemployed and about to lose her house after her accountant took her money; now, the IRS is after Poppy. Poppy has to keep this information a secret from her daughter, who is about to start Nursing School.

After running into an old boyfriend, Poppy gets a job offer to work in the Wardrobe in Hollywood. She will have to deal with temperamental actors and all matters of design. Does it matter that Poppy has no experience, and everyone dislikes her because they think she got this job from her special connection? Anything and everything can go wrong in this department. There are betrayals and strange happenings.

I appreciate how Ann Garvin discusses the importance of self-worth, self-growth, forgiveness, and second chances. The author also mentions the importance of honesty, communication, friendship, family, love, and hope. I highly recommend this thought-provoking novel. Happy Reading!

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. It was a tad slow to get going but I found it very entertaining. There were even parts I could relate to which made me either laugh or feel sad. A lovely summer read.

I was very intrigued by the synopsis of this book, and it reminded me of many of my favorite books featuring stories about female main characters facing difficult challenges, and who face those challenges head on and come out on top, often with some humor and maybe some romance along the way. Unfortunately, I felt like the author was trying too hard to be funny and/or clever, and the dialogue felt force and unrealistic to me. Since I was not able to click with the writing style, I chose to DNF the book about 5 chapters into the story. I am rating it 3 stars for its potential, as the story line was very intriguing. I am not posting this review on Goodreads since I did not complete the book.

What a wonderful read with a bit of quirkiness and fun. I love the main character, Poppy and that she is a woman closer to my age. The courage she has, to do what needs to be done. The giggles throughout and the triumphant end will leave you with all smiles.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Poppy Lively should be enjoying her fifties but is currently facing money issues. Her finances are tight due to her accountant embezzling her life savings which has the IRS breathing down her neck. This has her worried about the ability to remain living in her beloved home and also support her daughter’s future college costs.

A job opportunity in Hollywood offered by a former flame to work on a movie set becomes available. Although she feels that she is not qualified, she takes the job for the sake of her dire situation. Poppy begins to realize that she is working in a new culture, with a younger generation, and the concern of what is at stake if she is fired.

This book was very entertaining as well as a sneak peak into the behind the scenes of movie making. Grab a copy and be entertained!

You know those books that hit you just the right way at the right time? This one is one of those for me. I am really liking reading about women who are in the same stage as life as me and continuing to power through when all feels discombobulated. This was filled with unique characters who all had their own backstory that was seamlessly woven into the play without bogging it down. It had lively witty banter and some well placed puns. There was mystery and romance and a little bit of found family and redemption. And a cute little dog name Kevin! Overall I loved this book!

Ann Garvin's THERE'S NO COMING BACK FROM THIS was the perfect summer read for a woman who was born in the Midwest, raised on the coast, and spent much of her career back in the Midwest, enjoying the genuine smiles, hearty laughter, and living well. I enjoyed every moment with Poppy Lively, cringing a bit at times over the repetitive horrible thoughts of her father's damaging parenting and her mother's leaving her behind, but for the most part, enjoyed the twists and turns of a woman doing her best to be supportive mother, good friend, and reliable employee for a Hollywood enterprise seemingly bent on breaking her. She is that grounded, loving, and loyal person who ultimately rises up on her own behalf and in so doing, makes the world a better place for everyone else. I received a copy of this book and these opinions are my own, unbiased thoughts.

I felt very stressed throughout this book, with Poppy's money problems at the forefront. She was a little too quirky for me. I felt this book also bounced around randomly, as though Poppy would interrupt her train of thought with another train of thought. It felt like not much happened in the beginning and then a whole bunch of stuff happened quickly near the end. There were some supporting characters that helped keep my interest.

Not quite what I hoped for - not so light, though entertaining. Poppy frequently behaved as a person in her late twenties, and a lot of things could have been solved way earlier if she just thought it through more, Additionally, a couple of times I felt like the author didn't believe in the reader's way of thinking so some things were over-clarified and explained in more detail than needed (for instance, relationship with men from her past).
Nevertheless, it was interesting to read about people who help the set immensely but are not always acknowledged.
Thanks to NetGalley and Amazonbooks for an opportunity to read this book.

Review:
‘There Is No Coming Back From This’ is about Poppy Lively. Poppy is a 50 year old single mother who is on the verge of losing everything. She was screwed over by her accountant, who ran off with her life savings, and now Poppy might lose her house and won’t be able to afford her daughter’s college. After bringing her daughter to the airport, she comes across her ex-boyfriend, Three, who offers her a way out. He’s a producer now, so he offers her a job in Wardrobe for a movie he’s producing. This job might just save her from going to prison.

I really enjoyed the story, although it took me a while to really get into it. I didn’t like how basically everything happened in the last few chapters. Even though she was annoying at times, I really liked Poppy. Still, it was an enjoyable, fun and even a little mysterious book.

3.75 stars

I don't know how it's possible that I have only just now read a book by Ann Garvin, but I'm not mad that it was There's No Coming Back from This. I also don't know what I was expecting, but this was the perfect mashup of mysteriousness, women's fiction, romance, humor, and general adorableness. The small dog Kevin really stole the show for me, but I couldn't help but love Poppy as well. She is a Midwesterner through and through and being from Minnesota myself, I was thoroughly delighted by the fact that Garvin had her be from Wisconsin. This entire book was a true delight from the storyline all the way down to the characters, and Poppy really grew as a person between the beginning and end.

The audio for this was also incredible, and Andi Arndt was able to perfectly nail the Midwestern Wisconsin accent that Poppy piles on in one scene. I honestly think listening to this made me love it even more, and it is a Kindle Unlimited title, so I highly recommend checking out the audio if you have it! There's No Coming Back from This was the perfect read for escaping real life which made it incredibly easy for me to knock it out in basically one day. It was interesting to me that the author chose to use the name "Three" for one of the characters, and now I am desperately curious as to why she did this. I may have only just finished, but I'm already looking forward to my future reread which I will most definitely be doing.
