I received a free copy of, Christmas at the Lake, by Anita Hughes, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Rebecca Huntley is left at the altar on Christmas eve, I could not imagine anything worse. Rebecca decides to still go on her honeymoon though solos, to Christmas Cove, in Lake Tahoe. While vacationing Rebecca rubs into an old friend Zach, maybe this Christmas wont be so bad after all. A good read, great characters, beautiful setting.

A beautifully written story.

This book is much more than just a Christmas story or a romance. It’s about starting over after life takes an unexpected turn. When Rebecca’s fiancé, Ben, breaks up with her on their wedding day, she decides to take the honeymoon on her own. She always wanted to see Christmas Cove, in its full glory, at Christmas time. She could also use some time to think and reevaluate her life. What Rebecca didn’t expect was to be reunited with an old college friend, Zach, who was filming a movie. They resume their friendship and even a small romance. Rebecca also makes a few more friends while there. Rebecca soon realizes the life she was living wasn’t what was best for her. It was always about what was best for Ben.

This book is so good. I have read other books by this author and always look forward to when she has something new coming out. This book ranked just as good as the rest. A beautiful setting, great plot and characters that feel so real. This book also had a great message about trying to do more for yourself, to keep yourself happy, and not always sacrificing your own happiness in order to please everyone else.

FLEW through this excellent, incredible book. Tightly written, earnest, laugh-out-loud funny at several parts—one of the best literary books I've read in ages.

Not only is the cover so simple and beautiful, but so is the story and the world-building. Loved the setting, the characters, and their backstories.

I really enjoyed this story about Rebecca and Ben who have been partners in life for a lot of years and started a business together. They have their wedding planned at Christmas time and he cheats on her and leaves her at the altar. They had made plans for a Lake Tahoe Honeymoon and Rebecca's best friend Komi takes her there and then she ends up going home and Rebecca.stays but it seems has cancelled the room after the lodge already give it to her. There is so much involved in this story so I am leaving it here. There are several things that transpire out of this story. A GREAT READ

I liked this book. Rebecca and Ben are to be married in 6 hours when he comes to her and says he can't marry her. He loves someone else and hasn't had the guts to tell her. She decides to go to the Lake where they were going to honeymoon as she really loves it. She meets a friend from college and starts talking to him, but he hasn't been honest with her either. She meets alot of people that will be her friends for along time. She makes the most of her trip and knows when she goes home, she can make it anything she wants.

I got thsi book from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review

Get your Christmas wishes ready! When your fiancé calls off the wedding hours before the actual wedding, you go on the honeymoon anyway. This is a wonderful story that will have you believing in Christmas wishes and that magical things happen at Christmas. Fall in love with the characters and follow them on their holiday journey.

Okay I wanna preface this by saying that I did try hard not to pick this one up until closer to pub day, but I couldn’t help myself. This was an emotional rollercoaster and I loved it!

I am a sucker for a good Christmas movie or Christmas book. This book was all that you expect a Christmas book or movie to be about with a twist of some past love triangles, and a little mystery thrown in.
It starts out, seeming like a great Christmas book but as we go on, we learn there’s a videographer in town who is documenting past love stories, marriages, and how they either continued on or ended. Said videographer runs into a girl he knew in college and she is the main character in the story. There’s a bunch of miscommunication, or as some may say, lies told to each other or insinuated that keeps them apart.
However, as they work together, to tell these love stories, and she takes to a location that she’s only dreamed about, feelings may blossom and lives may be changed.
I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

Christmas at the Lake by Anita Hughes is the latest of her annual Christmas novels. I look forward to reading one every fall. With authentic characters and a sweet romance this is one entertaining read. Christmas Cove Inn on the shore of Lake Tahoe is the setting for Rebecca Huntley to spend her non=honeymoon over the Christmas holidays. The best you can say about her ex is that he did call off the wedding, he just should have done it much, much sooner.

While at Christmas Cove Inn Rebecca runs into an old college friend, Zach Mason. There are misconceptions, feelings to untangle especially for Rebecca and a romance to bloom. A second chance romance in a magical place during a holiday where anything can happen.

An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I did really enjoy the narration to this audiobook. I liked all the characters. The party she throws; theme seemed kind of hokey and unfitting. The story line of both the main characters withholding their truth. And the back and forth of wanting to tell the other but don't. That was dragged on throughout the book, and drove me nuts as main base to the storyline is them not being straightforward. Overall narration was good storyline wasn't for me in sense of frustrating parts throughout the book.

This is one holiday romance you’ll be reaching for again and again, every single year. Guaranteed.

In fact, I believe that this book has just slid into my top three favourite holiday reads.

Please don’t read the synopsis. Go into it blind. No spoilers below.

Things I liked:
✔️intriguing characters
✔️believable relationships
✔️engaging plot points
✔️satisfying character growth
✔️thrilling conflict and resolution
✔️sweet, light-hearted
✔️snowy Lake Tahoe
✔️misunderstandings/miscommunications
✔️pulls at the heartstrings
✔️no filler ‘fluff’- all meaningful
✔️festive fun
✔️feel-good escapism
✔️nostalgic traditions
✔️sprinkle of magic

Author Anita Hughes has allowed the spirit of the holiday to guide her writing but hasn’t allowed ‘Christmas’ to become the focus. The holiday enhances the story, but it could have stood alone. It’s also not over-the-top festive.

There are manly tropes represented but the main one is second-chance romance. Hughes explores what getting married means, highlights first love and happy endings, and reminds readers to be honest with themselves.

It ended rather abruptly, so I hope this means readers get more of the story in another installment.

I was gifted this copy by St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Rebecca Huntley loves everything about Christmas. Hours before her wedding on Christmas Eve, her fiancé and business partner leaves her at the altar. Rebecca goes on their honeymoon to Christmas Cove Inn and runs into an old friend. The story unfolds during the week between Christmas and New Year’s.

I adore Anita Hughes Christmas books. Christmas at the Lake had multiple story lines that intersect and there wasn’t one that really hooked me in. I enjoyed the book, loved the lake setting but it didn’t the holiday magic and joy that some of her other books have.

Thank you to the publisher for a complimentary advance copy of this book, all opinions are my own.

Reading a Christmas book nowhere near December? Yes please. I love this book and devoured it in one sitting.

After being left at the altar, Rebecca decides to still go on her honeymoon to a cozy Christmas inn in a holiday town. Where she runs into a past love, and some other characters whose lives are intertwined in Rebecca’s story.

This would be a fantastic Hallmark movie which is my one weakness.

"Christmas at the Lake" is a romantic and hopeful story that centers around Rebecca Huntley and her unexpected wedding day disappointment. The author, Anita Hughes, skillfully portrays Rebecca's journey of self-discovery and the possibility of finding love in unexpected places.

Rebecca's experience of being left at the altar by her college sweetheart, Ben Cole, prompts her to reevaluate her relationship and her own desires. She decides to embark on the honeymoon trip alone, finding solace at the Christmas Cove Inn in the town of Christmas Cove on Lake Tahoe.

During her stay, Rebecca reconnects with an old college friend, Zach Mason, who has been harboring a long-time crush on her. However, a misunderstanding leads to Rebecca and Zach both believing that the other is in a committed relationship. This creates the perfect opportunity for the characters to explore their feelings for each other and potentially start anew.

Throughout the story, the author explores the complexities of relationships and the notion of deal breakers in love. Rebecca and Zach's journey allows them to discover that true love is not solely based on shared interests or the absence of faults but lies in embracing one another's imperfections.

As the Christmas week unfolds, readers will find themselves rooting for Rebecca and Zach to uncover the truth and take the chance for a second shot at love. The story offers a heartwarming depiction of the holiday season, love, and the possibility of finding happiness in unexpected circumstances.

This book is a delightful read for those who enjoy romantic stories set during the holiday season. Anita Hughes masterfully weaves a tale of love, self-discovery, and the magic of the Christmas season that will leave readers feeling uplifted and hopeful.

I really enjoyed Christmas at the Lake by Anita Hughes! It was an unfolding love story within the retelling of 2 other love stories. They all had bumps that challenge along the route and none was the same old story. If you are looking for a quick, sweet read with just the right amount of Christmas, this is the one for you. Thank you to NetGalley, Ms. Hughes and St. Martin's publishers for the opportunity to review this sweet book.
