I finished The GutSMART Protocol and came away with a little knowledge and, unfortunately, not much else. The beginning of the book is great for those who want to learn more about the gut, the issues you might have, and how to fix it. The analogies and illustrations are good, giving readers a clear picture of how the gut functions. The third chapter is all about the microbiome of your gut, how the bacterial balance needs to be just so for you to be healthy.

The second part of the book includes a quiz to determine your level of gut health (mild, moderate or severe), as well as a 14 day protocol to heal and balance your gut. There are recipes, in the form of 14 day meal plans for each of the three types of gut. The book concludes with meditation and breathing exercises, as well as a look forward in your own life.

Personally, the information contained in the book was good, but nothing I did not already know. I was not a fan of the meal plan format, as I would rather have had just the recipes. I also had no interest in the meditation or visualization.

Clearly, The GutSMART Protocol has an audience, but I am not among them. The information about the gut is good, but the book loses focus by going more into a holistic approach. Though I know that a healthy gut helps your whole body be healthy, I want more of a cookbook and less of a self-help tutorial.

Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to read and review this book was entirely my own.

WOW! I needed this book. I really feel inspired to take action and get my gut health back, and this book did it.

This book has the right amount of information about gut health and what happens when you do not have it. Then the book proceeds to tell you how to get your gut healthy. Which starts with a quiz that you take to know the health of your gut currently. The author also shares his journey to gut health.

There are meal plans and recipes to help you on your journey to gut health. There are chapters on breathing and meditation to support your new gut health. Meditation is so good for all aspects of life. I really do need to try it on an ongoing basis. Then there is information on going further, if you are interested with that. There is a table of contents that you can use later when you are using the book as a reference guide.

We are learning so much about the gut, the microbiome, and the impacts of everyday life on out gut health. Vincent Pedre thoroughly explores the gut in his book, The GutSMART Protocol. He provides a 14 day protocol with variations based on a quiz the reader takes. As someone who falls into the severe category, I appreciated the vast amount of information about dietary and lifestyle changes to improve my gut health. This book is a must read for everyone. There is so much to learn about the gut and Vincent Pedre is the expert to follow.

This is such an informative book that is clear and well explained. Everything is laid out in terms that anyone can understand.

Your gut is connected to every system in your body. You would think that this would be common knowledge that your gut is the epicenter of all bodily processes and systems.

There is a quiz to take and then you can do the14-DAY GUTSMART PROTOCOL, which tells you what foods to eat and avoid.

Parts are explained throughly and it’s defiantly a book that needs to be reread

The recipes are clearly wrote out and explained and I found the tip section good, having tried some of these recipes and working in catering I can say that they are very good

There are parts of the book I would question and I would always seek yours doctors advice if unsure how the basics are there to make good informed choices.
It would be a book that you could highlight parts of to get the information you need after reading the what it is and why at the beginning of the book
I didn’t like the feeling like the author was trying to sell you into another of his programmes on his website so it lost a star as felt a bit pushy

I have mixed feelings about this book. I picked this Arc up as I have recently discovered my own IBS issues. My eating had changed and fits in quite a bit with this protocol. There was a lot of interesting information in this book that felt familiar, helpful and ultimately of sound practice. However, with regards to the scientific discussion, I feel unable to vouch for how correct that is, because this is not an area of study for me. As a result, I think this is a great book to introduce you to a different way of thinking about what kind of eating regime works for you. I also think the breathing exercises recommended can't hurt, they're wonderful for calming the mind and body. Also, who doesn't enjoy discovering new recipes? Just be sure to take the science with a grain of salt, and ensure you are critical with receiving advice from books as opposed to directly from healthcare professionals. And to be fair, this book is clear about these boundaries, so well done to the author for that.

The GutSMART Protocol is a comprehensive, hope-filled guide out of the digestion nightmare that most of us live with daily! The information was deeply informative, yet palatable for even someone just entering the gut-healing game. I gathered a lot of new information and appreciated the yummy recipes to accompany the protocol. I really think this book will help many people on their way to a healthy gut and most healing stems from there!

This is a science based program for better stomach health. It includes a 14 day plan that is easy to incorporate into your life . The foods included are not all vegan but I will make adjustments. I enjoyed learning more of the science behind a healthy stomach and how small changes we can make lead to better overall stomach health. I highly recommend this book for all interested in better health . This is a important body of work that is worth your time to invest in reading and learning this vital program. I will be buying a hard copy and gifting this to friends.

Thank you to the publisher, to Net Galley and to the author for the opportunity. My review opinions are my own.

I found this book very interesting. I think I will need to read it more slowly to fully digest all of the steps and tips. I really liked how the author used science to back his claims and walked the reader step by step through understanding gut health before trying to get the reader to make changes. The changes come after understanding. The recipes look very tasty and are available no matter what level of your gut health or unhealth. I really liked how multifaceted the quiz is and how the recommendations are dependent upon where you fall after taking the quiz. I look forward to rereading and beginning the 14 day protocol.

The GutSMART Protocol is a tutorial guide and nutritional program developed and promoted by Dr. Vincent Pedre. Due out 4th April 2023 from BenBella Books, it's 288 pages and will be available in hardcover, audio, and ebook formats.

This is an accessible and enthusiastically written guide to supporting and building a healthy gut biome and promoting gut health with the aim of positive follow on benefits to general wellness and organ system health throughout the body. There's convincing peer reviewed research to show the direct correlation between gut health and general health and this guide aims to help readers improve their diet and support their digestive system.

The science is fairly clear at this point. The microbiome of the digestive system has a profound effect on overall physical and even mental health. Supporting good health requires a healthy and varied diet as well as rest and hydration.

The book is well laid out with an introduction and theory behind the science of gut health, a quiz and quick start 2 week plain that readers can tailor to their particular situation and gut wellness, meal plans, recipes, and supportive processes to provide more overall benefits. The science is solid and well annotated here with links for further reading.

I found the ruthless positivity throughout wearing after a while. The author's website and publications are full of glossy wellness therapy sound bites and some of the allied therapies he recommends are still questioned in the mainstream medical and scientific communities. There are lots and lots (and lots) of extra add-ons and giveaways throughout the book and on his website as well as promotion of his own products. The book comes across as a populist media "sensation".

Four stars. There are unquestionably valuable takeaways here. Readers should use common sense deciding what parts of the book to use.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
