There is a lot to navigate when growing up, Physical changes and brain growth spurts and pruning can all take their toll. Whilst not everything can be controlled, understanding what's happening is helpful in controlling one's reaction to the changes as are helpful habits that lean towards a healthy body and mind. This books helps with both aspects, explaining what is happening and why so that you don't panic when things start changing - body, moods, likes and dislikes, taking into account that these changes and feelings can be different for each person, n some cases very different.
Then it gives practical advice and examples of healthy habits to keep physically fit and mentally healthy. It takes everyday scenarios and plays out how you can manage it, letting the reader go over in her mind what she would want to do in such situations. It also helps the reader understand their personality and how that affects their decision making and how others may perceive them. Throughout the book, there are notes and input from well known women, helping the reader realise that even famous people were not always famous and that they too have ups and downs, have made mistakes and are essentially - human just like the reader.

It's a good growing up companion that can be referred to multiple times.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this book are solely my own.

The Rebel Girls series may be one of my favorite teaching tools for helping with confidence and inner strength.

Great book with lots of important information about growing up.

“Growing Up Powerful” is definitely a must-read for every little girl (and why not even boy?) going through puberty.

It's empowering and will definitely make kids feel better about changes happening in their lives, just by normalising these. I also loved how inclusive that book is.

-

It deals with a lot of different topics, too, as not only does it include changes happening to the body, but also those happening in the brain—that part got me super interested and taught me a few things as well. Other parts of the book include finding your place in a community, being part of the sisterhood, and standing up for your ideas.

Honestly, it just felt like it covered absolutely everything. Most of these I whish I had read when I was a kid.

-

There also are different activities through the book: mindfulness exercises, quizzes, tips, QR codes to scan to get more ressources, and a good list of books, podcasts and websites at the end to go even further.

-

Each page is illustrated, which makes this book even more colourful, fun, and positive. The illustrations are so very cute, and inclusive as well, which, again, was very nice to see.

-

I definitely couldn't recommend this book enough—no matter how old you are, really.

My new favorite book for coming-of-age female-identifying kids! Why can’t there be one for boys? I have both genders in my household and found the way the information was delivered to be great, mature without being condescending. This book addresses all facets of growing up including appearance, body, clothing, health, puberty, social life, family life and finding your voice. This is a safe book for kids ready to learn about “what comes next”

As always I love the bright colours and illustrations. It really adds to the vibrancy of the book and helps to get the message of the book across. My 11 year old daughter enjoyed this book too especially the interactive elements (quizzes etc).

We absolutely love rebel girls at my house’! My daughter is thrilled whenever she gets to read an ARC. She loved this one. She introduced her librarian to rebel girls and helped get copies in her library!

This book is a must for any parent or carer with a young daughter.

In a world where low self esteem and poor mental health are rife, Growing Up Powerful is the most empowering salve for every girl.

Not afraid to tackle tricky topics and covering a plethora of topics that our girls want to know and those which we want them to learn about in order to keep them safe and simultaneously empower them, this book is presented in a fun and accessible manner with easy to read sections covering life's essentials.

Aimed at ages 9-12, we couldn't fault it.

The greatest gift we can give to our girls is knowledge and a sense of worth and this book does that in spades. Girl Power at it's finest!

Thank you to Net Galley and Rebel Girls for sending us this eBook for review consideration. All opinions are our own.

This book has advice for girls about mental health. It discusses the body and changes the body goes through, family and struggles, friends and peer pressure, activism and dealing with the world. I think it is a good book for young girls. but an adult should monitor their access to it. It is not appropriate for a school setting.

I love all of the Rebel Girls books and this one was no different! Growing Up Powerful by Nona Willis Aronowitz is a true inspiration. It is a book for older children and younger teens (and anyone looking for some powerful women)! It features powerful, inspiring, determined women! A must read for all children but most definitely for young ladies!

First of all I want to thank netgalley for providing me with this book.

growing up powerfull tells us what it is like to grow up, the changes that go through in childhood, however it differs from the other books in this line, since it does not tell it as a story, it gives you information after information and one that another dynamic. To my taste it becomes a bit tedious, despite the fact that they try to make it lighter. I got to a point where I didn't want to read anymore.

It's good for educating yes, not for hanging out as it gets tedious after a while.

I give it a 2.5 out of 5 stars

Another wonderful book, although my daughter is a bit young at the moment, I feel it would be a wonderful resource to help her understand her feelings and emotions as she grows up.

Fantastic. Very informative but in a very accessible and appealing way. Girls could learn a lot, with many common teenage issues addressed. Covers lots of aspects of growing up, including up-to-date information on social media, cyber bullying etc. Girls could dip in and out, it does not need to be read in sequence or all at once, and could come back to it often when they have questions that they don't want to talk to others about. It is laid out in an attractive way, with easy to understand information and follow ups. Would make a great gift for pre teen and teen girls. (And pre teen / teen boys could learn a lot from it too!)

As always, the Rebel Girls series meets the moment. Not only is this colorful and boldly illustrated but its content is exactly right for young people. I’m thankful to have the opportunity to explore it independently before sharing it with my children and plan to purchase a hardcover for our bookcase.

No one is a bigger cheerleader for the Rebel Girls than me, and this book continues in the tradition of awesome offerings for incredible young women. However, I'm finding Growing Up Powerful a little confusing regarding the audience. The topics are very much pre-teen/tween, but the writing seems geared to much older girls (high school maybe). The messages are still great, and important, and perhaps the higher level text will encourage younger girls to read along with a parent/guardian or mentor, leading to some valuable conversations.

My only other comment is that there were parts that felt a little patronizing and maybe minimizing of issues that might be very important to young girls. "Problems" were solved too easily and "solutions" seemed a bit too convenient.

That said... I still love the imprint and hope to see more and more from them.
Thank you to NetGalley and Rebel Girls for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

Thanks NetGalley for the preview!

This book is so important. It explains things in an appropriate and approachable way. As a parent it was helpful but I can also see how wonderful it will be for my daughter. Really loved the social media information and overall the book was excellent.
