Wow this book was such an interesting and adventurous story. It had adventure, magic and banter! It took me awhile to read because once again life kept popping up with things here and there. Then by the time I was tempted to write, sleep called for me!

So let's dive in..shall we?

The book flips back and forth from Otto and Fritzi's point of view. So fun to read from their thoughts and perspective! Both of these characters had to learn to work with each other to help save the other witches. That was the goal. While helping and learning of each other, a tiny spark flies between Otto and Fritzi. It was a slow burn in a different way. Not sure how to explain it. Insta love plus attraction? Or maybe how they saw things differently and yet they learned from each other inspired them to have feelings for each other? I could go on but I thought that aspect was sweet. So there is a sweet romance and some tiny spice in the middle of a witch hunting/evil aspect going on... but the story mostly focuses on the task of magic and what to do about the villain.

I loved the black forest and I loved how the little aspects of magic popped up. The goddesses that popped up in the book were something! I was not expecting that.

I will admit the villain was dark and creepy. I didn't like the villain at all. I couldn't believe the connection that the villain had either. That shocked me. This character does some dark things. The evil character lost their marbles. Seriously!

I do want to point out that since this book does take place during witch trials, there is a darker side to to it in this book like being chained up, in jail cells, being burned and a few other things. Just giving you heads up if it is not your thing.

The ending left me gasping! Like how is that even possible? I did not even see that coming.

If there is book two, I will definitely get it because this story took me on an adventure!

A witchy read perfect for the autumn, witchy season! I loved the atmosphere, the intrigue, and the romance! I also enjoyed getting the dual POV. Will highly recommend, especially as we close in on spooky season.

Night of the Witch is about Fritzi, who survives a massacre of her coven, and goes to find the hexenjägers (witch hunters) responsible, to make them pay and save her cousin, the other survivor, from being burned at the stake. Along the way, she meets Otto, hexenjägers who has a secret - he's infiltrated the hexenjägers to make them pay for what they did to his mother. Only, his sister is now missing, and with no one to help him, Fritzi and Otto must team up to save Fritzi's cousin, Otto's sister, and all the witches the hexenjägers have stolen.

I actually had a little bit of a hard time with Night of the Witch. I don't think it was bad, in any way, but around the 35% mark something in the story just felt... less engaging. In some ways, this book reminded me of a more realistic Serpent & Dove, and in other ways, it felt a little too similar. Admittedly, I didn't love Serpent & Dove either, so perhaps the devout witch killer teaming up with a witch gimmick just doesn't work for me. I'm not totally against all enemies to lovers, but something about Fritzi and Otto just... didn't work for me. The attraction between them felt too sudden, and not natural in any way.

Besides the romance, the story itself was not engaging enough for me, and the last 60% was hard for me to get through.

I actually think, though, that if you were a Serpent & Dove lover, you would like Night of the Witch.

This book was wonderfully written and had the atmosphere of a dark stormy night. I loved how the main characters battled internally on what they thought was right and what was wrong. It was a delightful and engulfing read.

Usually this kind of book grabs my attention straight away, however I found myself struggling to connect with the book. Quite sad really 2.75 stars

After surviving an attack on her coven, Fritzi is determined to take down the witch hunter's leader Kommandant Dieter Kirch.
Meanwhile, Otto, as a witch hunter, also wants to kill his leader Kommandant Dieter.
Fritzi and Otto will team up to give Kommandant Dieter justice for the lives he ended.

I was so intrigued by the plot but boy I didn't expect the story to be so boring. The plot is just all over the place and things just happened without further explanation and I was just so confused the whole time. The villain's backstory is so odd and doesn't make any sense. Everything just feels so forced like the relationship between Fritzi and Otto; I don't feel their chemistry at all.
It's such a shame that I actually expected more, but this one just didn't work for me

This book really surprised me by how much I loved it. I went into it not knowing what to expect but came out reading a book that tackled so many issues surrounding religion, grief and what it means to be human. It was engaging in both plot and characters but also in the questions it made me ask of myself as I followed the protagonists' battle between what they were raised to believe and the truth in front of them.

The pacing of this story was quick and its twists and turns had me hardly seeing what was coming next. The characters were complex and well-rounded and the world-building and magic system were well thought out. This book was much darker than I thought it would be as it threads in real history from witch hunts of the past and pits family against family yet it also had moments of light that made me smile especially through the relationship between Fritzi and Otto. It was so interesting to see their relationship unfold as they each went on their own journeys of coming to grips with who they are and the wrongs they have done even if at the time they believed they were in the name of something good.

This is a story that will stay with me and I cannot wait for its sequel!

This one looked promising early on, so I requested it…however, it has dropped too far below 4 stars on Goodreads for me to spend time with it. I did not read it, but I am thankful to Netgalley for providing the opportunity.

This book wasn't for me!

The romance was too... easy. I expected more pull back, more resistance. It was a bit annoying how he was won over by her so quickly and vice versa.

I also wasn't pulled in enough. It's sad, because I was really looking forward to this book! I lacked connection with the characters.

The idea is great, the cover beautiful. The execution could have been better.

Swearing in German is used a lot, and it's a bit preachy with faith v.s. organized religion.

I am really not fond of books set in the past, so I was surprised when I realized this one was. No matter, I can enjoy this type of book anyway. The book starts with a bang, and I liked how it progressed from there. I am not fond of fast-paced love stories, and while this one sort of is, I didn’t mind too much. This is a fast-paced love story with elements of history, which is the part I enjoyed most, and the persecution of witches. While I did enjoy this story, I probably won’t be reading the next only because, like I said before, I’m not fond of books in the past. However, I’m sure others will enjoy this. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

So the premise is wildly interesting and I’m definitely interested enough to continue on and read the next book but as for this one I feel like I wasn’t quite grabbed by the romance aspect and needed a little “more” for lack of a better word. I think I might have enjoyed it more if I were younger but I’m curious to see what the author will do next!

A perfect witchy Fall read! A fantasy take on the witch trials in Germany. The story follows Fritzi who survives an attack on her coven and Otto who is captain of the witch hunters (or so it seems). They come together to take down a common enemy and uncover the lies Fritzi has come to know about good and bad magic. Plot twists, enemies to lovers, magic/witchy vibes.

I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for book 2! The only reason I knocked a star was for the ending... it wasn't bad just was like whyyy would they think that was a good idea?

Enemies to lovers done beautifully + witches!
I really enjoyed this book. The dual POV was done very well, and the character development was really good. I loved the German vibe, also!

Night of the Witch is a story of a young witch Fritzi during the European witch trials. You follow along with her as she tries to help others survive against the witch hunters and save magic. I loved her character and thought this was a nice fictional telling of the witch trials. It was able to keep my interest and I finished it pretty quickly because I wanted to know what happened. I haven’t read a book with this sort of storyline before so I thought it was unique and kept me wanting to read more. I liked the writing style the authors used. It flowed nicely and you really got to know the characters! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

From the synopsis, this book sounded interesting. I knew it was set right in the middle of witch trials so I had no doubt it would be violent but since it was tagged as YA I didn’t expect certain things from it. Definitely check content warnings before reading this one.

Even with the brutal setting this book allowed for some of the best aspects of a fantasy romance: enemies to lovers, forced proximity, and one bed. The romance portion of this book felt rushed (I am definitely more of a slow burn girly) to me but I really enjoyed the world building.

If you are a fan of of insta love, like stories about witches and can stomach violent descriptions I think you’ll be really engaged with this story!

Even though it was not my favorite, I will likely pick up the next book to see what happens with Otto and Fritzi!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Night of the Witch is an adventurous story that follows an unlikely pair during the German witch trials of 1591. The book offers both Fritzi’s and Otto’s point of view, while I love this, I do wish sometimes we got more time with Fritzi or Otto to help deepen that connection to them. My favorite thing about Night of the Witch must be that Sara and Beth try to stay true to the time period/location by introducing the German language to the book. In my opinion, this adds a wonderful element of character to the book making it is clear the authors want to educate the reader by providing pet names, phrases that are explained and switching up some of the basic words that can be inferred to what they mean in English. I greatly enjoyed looking up words I didn’t know and loved seeing them used more than once within the book, making my efforts worth it. I do think having an appendix at the back of the book for all the translations would be a benefit for those who might struggle to pronounce the words and remember their meanings.

Fritzi is a witch who has just lost everything, and Otto is a man with a plan that well... doesn’t go according to plan. These two are meant to be enemies, and most certainly they do not trust each other. Since both of their worlds are turned upside down in a matter of minutes, they have no other option but to do the unthinkable, work together. However, there is more going on under the surface since neither of them can stop thinking about the other. This action-packed book will keep you on your toes while Fritzi and Otto do everything they can to save her cousin, get away from Dieter and fall into the destiny the Goddesses have determined they are meant to have.

I can’t wait to see what new secrets are revealed, evil plans that come to light, and what happens to the world in Book 2!

When I saw Beth Revis was involved in this novel, I had to check it out. Unfortunately I was left a bit disappointed. As an expert on the witchcraft trials, I didn't find this an accurate portrayal.

In Night of the Witch we meet Fritzi, a witch, who survives an attack on her coven by hexenjägers (i.e., witch hunters). Not soon thereafter, Fritzi is captured by Otto, a hexenjäger captain. Set in a fantasy rendering of Germany, we follow the dual POV of Fritzi and Otto who uncover the truths of the hexenjägers and witches alike.

From the synopsis, this book seemed very appealing to me, but sadly, it did not live up to my expectations. What I enjoyed most was the world building, but even that I found to be lacking. The lore of the book could have been very interesting, but was very underdeveloped. It felt as though the witch-mythology behind the story was more so to aid the story along than it served as a broader fantasy world.

The story itself felt very rushed. Personally, I enjoy a good slow-burn, whereas this was nearly insta-love. I don’t even think this book could qualify as enemies-to-lovers. The pacing of not only the romance, but also the plot-development was all over the place. Many of the major events felt rushed and I felt that reasons why certain things happened were not properly explained or brushed over as a means to advance the story. I had a hard time connecting with the characters because of the lacking world building and rushing of events. They were not compelling and the story became fairly predictable as it went on.

All in all, I could not really immerse myself into the story. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more when I was younger, but the execution of all the parts together wasn’t impressive to me. I probably won’t be picking up the sequel.
