I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
The story is an interesting take on the mob using seagulls as the main characters. The story is told as a story-in-a-story. It is a great setup for the beginning of a series.

Birdsy Seagull rules Shoretown and its boardwalk, taking flack from no one - not even his own crew of gull gangster wannabes like enforcers One-Wing and Vinny. But when a boardwalk eatery installs a wooden Seahawk on the top of their building, to keep the seagulls away, Birdsy must assemble his gang - and the beautiful Birdabella - to take back control of his domain, by hook or by crook.

This genuinely funny graphic novel does, indeed, read like "'The Sopranos' for seven-year-olds". Birdsy is the perfect crime boss, even if his crew isn't the brightest, and when the shenanigans start as they try to take down one fake bird, I found myself laughing aloud. The cartoonish illustrations only add to the comedy, between which is also some very humane - I mean, for being seagulls - characters I found myself rooting for. This is just part one of a series, and this reader eagerly await more; it really was a sweet read. 4.5/5 stars

NOTE: I received a free ARC of this title from NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

I'm not sure who the target audience is for this book. The use of birds makes it a little too immature for teens and adults and the content/theme makes it a little too mature for younger readers. The artwork is great and it is a clever story. Overall, it's an enjoyable read. It should make for an interesting series.

This was a fun graphic novel! Loved the gangster seagulls!! I think they were all really fun characters and loved the names of the seagulls! Can't wait to see what happens next!

Our copy of the book was black and white (although it says that full color is also available) and I’m sure it would have been way more enjoyable in full color.
Despite it not being in full color, it was still a very exciting read! Loved that it was a graphic novel – the way the story was told with beautiful drawings and just the right amount of text, complimenting each other and telling the story in a fun and funny way.
We definitely will be looking for more books by the same author and my tween says she wants a sequel.
