Seven Exes was everything I wanted in a book description. The idea of the plot is both hilarious and relatable - who wouldn't go back and overanalyze every relationship to see whether you just had a mistimed love?? The problem for me is that the FMC is unlikeable in the extreme. Maybe this was the authors goal at the end of the day in order to showcase that you don't need a man (or woman) to define your own happiness, but the reality was that it caused me to struggle finishing this. The plot was slow-moving, crawling at times, and others times I wanted to skip entire chapters to deal with the cringe factor. At the end of the day, it's just not for me, but I can see why it would be a book that others would reach for.

Fun and quirky rom-com that reminded me of What's Your Number or High Fidelity. Esther is afraid she's already met her match and broken up with him destined to be alone. She decides to revisit seven of her past relationships the ones she feels are the most significant in her dating past. Along to help her are her best friends and roommates and an elderly upstairs neighbor. I liked Esther as a character but did at times not understand the choices she was making and wished she had seen the positives in her life a little sooner. I enjoyed this book was a quick read with some really funny moments 3.5 starts rounded up to 4. I want to thank NetGalley and Harper Perennial and Paperbacks for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

3.25/5 stars! The premise of this story sounded like a second-chance romance I could get behind. It reminded me of "What's Your Number?" Overall, I enjoyed the story. It was a sweet, quick romcom read. My only complaint is that because there were so many characters in the plotline, several of the characters didn't feel fully developed, which took me out of the story.

Thank you to NetGalley, Lucy Vine & Harper Perennial and Paperbacks for an arc of Seven Exes in exchange for an honest review. This review is wholly my own & may not be reproduced.

Esther, who is almost thirty, realizes she’s tired of being alone and wants to settle down with Mr. Right. After she finds an article in a dating magazine column describing how every person has 7 archetypes that they date before finding Mr. Right – she realizes that she has exactly 7 exes that fit each archetype. Now she is convinced that she already dated Mr. Right and begins contacting each of her exes to figure out exactly which one was the “one that got away.” This sounds fun, huh?!

The storyline was super cute and hooked me right away, however, the actual story fell a little bit short of what I was hoping for. It wasn’t bad at all and I definitely recommend giving it a read. I was just hoping for a teensy bit more out of it than what was given. It definitely has it’s funny moment and oh goodness, the cringy moments! It was just a little slow and I wasn’t a huge fan of all the different timelines.

Overall, I’m giving it a 3/5 Stars

I knew this was going to be such a fun and exciting read.

Seven Exes by Lucy Vine was a fun story, entertaining and sweet rom-com.

Our seven friends walk together and discover love, loss, laughs and tears as they bring their friendship closer and when one of them takes a stroll to the past to determine if one of her exes might be..THE ONE.
I absolutely loved the characters here. They had the absolute best time. And made you feel like you are apart of it all.
A fun, lively story with great characters and an interesting storyline.

This is my first time reading this author and I must say I liked it a lot.
Lucy Vine knows how to write a heartfelt story, the pacing felt perfect, and I really enjoy the witty banter laced with humor.

This was an absolutely delightful book that reminds you to hold onto the good things in life and that not everything can be solved by finding “the one”. I thoroughly enjoyed feeling apart of Esty, Bibi, and Lou’s friendship.

This is one of my favorite books that I've read so far in 2023. Our main character is going through her list of exes trying to track down which of them may be right for her. In the process, she does a lot of self reflection and realizes what went wrong in each of the relationships. Does she find the one? Is one of her exes secretly the one that got away? This book was a fun read and a little bit of a mystery to see who she ends up with (if anyone). I can't wait to read other books by this author.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this arc!

Even though trying to meet your exes is typically a bad idea, it definitely works in this romantic novel! The main character sets out on a journey to understand how her life has gone awry and finds out a lot more than she anticipated. A great read!

This romance was as cute and heartwarming as the first book by this author that I read last year. These covers are on brand and I live diving in to these characters. There was laughter and emotion in this novel and I have to say it’s definitely worth a read!!

If you’re looking for a romance book with top-quality banter - especially between a close group of friends, and with a very British flavor (sorry, flavour*) - look no further than this one.

Nearly-thirty and disheartened about still being single, Esther decides to reconnect with her seven exes to figure out which one - if any - should have been The One. The book alternates between past scenes from Esther’s relationships and her current self getting in touch with each of them again.

I just loved this book. The variety of past relationships, and the way each one responded to Esther’s attempts to reconnect, were entertaining but believable. I was kept guessing about who (if anyone) she would ultimately end up with - refreshing in a genre where the love interest more often than not tends to be telegraphed early in the story. And Esther’s friends! I loved loved loved their conversations, and I also love that they were pretty well-fleshed-out characters in their own rights.

Highly recommend this read for anyone who wants to be reminded that we all grow in and out of relationships, anyone who is struggling with aging out of their 20s and figuring out their lives, and/or anyone who just wants some incredible British banter.

Esther finds an article claiming that every woman has exes that fit into 7 categories: The First Love, The Work Mistake, The Overlap, The Friends with Benefits, The Missed Chance, The Bastard, and The Serious One. Her lack of relationship seems to be the only thing missing in her life, so she decides to go on a journey through her past and see if someone on this list is the one that got away.
This was a great story of friendship, love, and moving on. Esther’s roommates/best friends are great additions to the story, as well as Sophia and Ivan. The only thing I wanted at the end of this book was more! After all the build up and dating, at the end Esther is just shown in her happy relationship without including any of the build up that we had with the other characters. I really wanted one more chapter with their first date and the anticipation. Overall, it was still really good.

I had a really hard time enjoying this book, despite loving the premise of the story. I found our main character to be all-around distasteful in her attitude towards others... self-absorbed and reprehensible. This was a miss, from me.

Do you ever question who is THE ONE? Maybe it's one of your exes that can be considered "the one who got away." Ester is almost thirty with a great job, a flat with her two best friends, Bibi and Louise. What more could she want? But she feels that she is missing that special someone in her life. So when she comes across a magazine's dating column, there are seven archetypes a woman will date before Mr. Right. Ester laughs it off till she realizes that she has exactly seven exes that match the profiles: The First Love, The Work Mistake, The Overlap, The Friends with Benefits, The Missed Chance, The Bastard, and The Serious One. Ester is convinced that one of her exes might be The One so she goes on a journey to contact and catch up with each of them. Join Ester in her journey of revisiting her past to see if she can have The One!

I absolutely loved this book! It was so hilarious and fun! The transition of present to back then (of the relationships) really made the book. Not going to lie, wasn't the biggest fan of Ester because of her decisions. But I really liked that the book was more than just Ester and her find her special someone. The book also follows friendship between Ester, Bibi, and Louise.

Overall, would recommend this book.

Every person has experienced the thought of what if we let "the one" get away and further characterize that person with a certain nickname (i.e. the work mistake) but Esther took it into her own hands to track down her exes to see if they were meant to be. At times, her self deprecating attitude wore thin especially when. she was sacrificing her friendships and work to pursue these people; however, her interactions certainly provided many moments of humor. There were definitely unexpected twists when it came to Lou and Sven and Bibi and Alex but I was so glad to see how everyone including Esther ended up with exactly whom they were meant to be with. Love always wins.

Overall I loved the concept. But I have say, the pacing just felt off to me. Flashbacks in books aren’t my favorite thing to read. And while obviously I expected there to be a backstory with each ex, I wish those moments weren’t so much of the story. I do love books with FMC in their late 20/30, so that was a big plus. But even though she was 29, I had a hard time seeing her that she.

This was such a fun book! After reading an article in a magazine, Esther decides that she's going to get in touch with her 7 exes and see if one of them was really the one.

I really loved and identified with Esther and could see myself in her place!

Seven Exes by Lucy Vine is about almost thirty Esther who is convinced - after reading an article in a magazine - that you only get seven loves and she has already had her seven. She goes on a mission to find her seven exes and find out what might have been. I enjoyed the friendship she has with her flatmates and the self-discovery she realizes as she closes the loop on her past. However, her character is truly insufferable at times and I couldn’t tell what timeline each chapter was in for the first few paragraphs which got somewhat confusing for me. I was really surprised a few times throughout the book, which was nice! I appreciate an unpredictable plot and it kept me on my toes. I enjoyed the development of the side characters and it was a quick, fun read that ended nicely. Truly a book about friendship, self-discovery and self-reflection!

This was such a fun rom com! I could EASILY see it be turned into a movie and I think it would be so successful. It was such a fun concept of going back to your past in order to improve your love life. It kind of reminded me of ghost of girlfriends past which is one of my FAVORITE movies. A really fun read!

This was a fun read, definitely more introspective than a lot of romances. Wish that the bits about her sexuality were a little bit more explained- felt kind of like there was internalizes homophobia? Maybe I’m reading too much into it.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC.
