The Bone House by Caroline Mitchell is a gripping new crime thriller full of thrills and twists and part of a series. I did not read the other books, but I felt that this book is okay as a standalone book.

The story is about an old pram pulled from a lake with the bones of a baby still strapped inside. And it's the moment Cora has been dreading.

With the help of forensic anthropologist Sophia Hudson, Detective Sarah Noble gets to the bottom of a cold case that refuses to stay in the past. Will she survive the secrets of the bone house?

The cover drew me to the book, and the synopsis sounded intriguing. The plot was good, and I enjoyed getting to know the characters. At first, I thought this was going to be like a sci-fi, supernatural story, but it wasn't. The atmosphere added to the suspense of the story and mystery.

The author weaved in good red herrings and twists. A good introduction to this series for me and this author.

Four out of 5 stars for me.

I absolutely loved this! It was the perfect mix of psychological and maybe a little bit supernatural..... but without being supernatural lol! It builds the tension, it has the most eerie and unsettling atmosphere which you'd normally only find with a horror/ ghost story but that same tension is brought to this thriller and it works amazingly well.

I loved the plot, its multilayered and so cleverly written to balance everything and have it all coexist without every getting messy or leaving plot holes in the end.

I was so invested in the characters and loved that you did get such a clear sense of who they were and a bit of insight into their personal life's and struggles which again, makes you more invested in the outcome.

I loved every second of it and was straight online to download every other book the author has ever written!

There were just so many twists and turns and red herrings thrown in that you'll never be able to predict what's behind it all or who's responsible. The book has a good pace e throughout and there is constantly things happening and things being revealed. It is one of those "just one more chapter" type books that end up keeping you up all night

Rounding up to three stars

This works well as a stand alone, considering it was part of a series.
I fidnt once feel overwhelmed with the back history, though there were enough hints dropped to make you wonder at what came before.
I didnt ever really feel I got into this book, I can't be sure why.
I liked how it was every day stuff, then suddenly a different creepier narration.
Interesting plot lines, and for fans of the series, the characters move on nicely.
