Oh my goodness this is exactly what I needed in this moment. I am working on things and the inspirational stories behind leadership, collaboration, and the such is awesome. I just purchased a copy to keep in my personal library because this is a book you keep around, and reference to.

I had mainly focused on the "Harnessing Serendipity" part of the title, so the book wasn't quite what I was expecting. I did get enough out of it for me to find it useful even though I am definitely not part of the target audience. There are some things that I can use as a teacher, but I am in no way any kind of event host or coordinator. It was interesting to hear from such a variety of voices and to learn about some of the things that are being done behind the scenes that most people are not aware of.

What an interesting concept to a leadership book! The intro sets the stage for what successful collaboration looks like, but reading the stories of others who have successfully collaborated in a variety of ways generates curiosity in how leaders and teams can better collaborate. It has definitely given me food for thought for how I work with others and lead collaborative teams.

This book encapsulates key lessons about bringing people together for collaboration in a series of easily digestible anecdotes and case studies. The authors have connected with an impressive number of influential, successful people and asked them for kernels of wisdom about collaboration. Each short chapter shines light on a different example of how one person created a group experience far more valuable than the sum of its individual parts.

For me personally, I found some of the information redundant because I've spent years learning about these topics through books, MBA courses, podcasts, and the like. There was a lot of familiar information in these pages and fewer big revelations, but in some ways I take that as a good sign. It means the authors included the most important concepts -- and they did so in a much more engaging and approachable format than, say, an MBA textbook.

To that point, I highly recommend this book to any leader looking to delve deeper into the skills required to harness the true power of collaboration. I will note there was a much heavier focus on events, specifically, than I expected. There is plenty of wisdom for someone seeking ideas for everyday collaboration, but these readers may find they need to translate that wisdom from the bigger or more discrete examples given in the book.

Overall, this book is extremely readable, and I think it would make an especially inspirational pick for someone just beginning an ambitious leadership journey.

HARNESSING SERENDIPITY by David Adler, James Cornehlsen, and Andrew Frothingham is itself a powerful demonstration of its thesis, that the best collaborations are the ones that result in cohesive teams contributing unique talents, skills, and perspectives to create genuine transformation and innovation. The authors have drawn upon an incredibly wide, expert, and inspiring group of leaders to explore collaboration from diverse perspectives, offering the reader the opportunity to create their own optimal approach. I felt smarter, inspired, and encouraged by this book and will recommend it to all I know. I received a copy of this book and these opinions are my own, unbiased thoughts.

This book was not what I expected. I thought it would be more of a how to and less of a collection of essays. However, that being said, this is a book is very insightful. I will revisit. It contains wonderful lessons and great understanding of how to treat others and collaborate. I recommend this book to team leaders and young professionals. Thank you NetGalley, David Adler, James Cornehlsen, Andrew Frothingham, and The Book Whisperer for the ARC.
