The Plus One is a fake dating romance told from the perspective of Indira, a therapist whose boyfriend recently cheated on her, and Jude, a traveling doctor dealing with humanitarian crises. These two childhood enemies come together for a wedding. While Jude struggles with PTSD and Indira struggles with seeing her ex with the girl he cheated on her with they decide to put their childhood issues aside and pretend to date. The fake dating is mutually beneficial for them, it gives them both an excuse to sit in the corner during all of the over the top wedding functions. Quickly both of them realize that maybe there is more love than hate in their love/hate relationship.

Fake dating and enemies to lovers are my two favorite tropes. This book was full of witty banter, spicy romance and honest discussions of mental health. I love how Mazey Eddings always talks about the topics that many are scared to talk about. It’s wonderful to see a book normalize going to therapy. The author does a great job of interjecting humor and romance along with the heavy subjects. While I enjoyed the book it was a little long and some things could have been cut out. I honestly don’t think the fake dating aspect added to the story. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook. It was narrated by Imani Jade Powers and Joe Arden.

While this is the third book in the A Brush with Love series you do not need to read the other ones in order to read it. I recommend this book to readers who like their romances full of chemistry and real life issues.

This was a great romance but was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for me.

I really loved Indira and Jude's dynamic and the moments where we get to see the other couples were great.

I feel like there was quite a tone shift between this one and the previous book in the series, Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake. While there were some really fun moments, it was pretty devastating at times.

I really liked the narrators of the audio. They did a great job with the characters!

Kinda cute, kinda cringe, and not my favorite contemp romance. The narrators were all right, I didn't hate them nor loved them, which is good for me tbh. I did not like the big issue for Jude was that he was a doctor with PTSD but did not want to seek out help and was under the belief that mental health isn't important. Eyeroll. In comes Indira, a therapist, childhood rival/best friend's little sister, who is the only one that sees through him and wants to help him. Eyeroll. Sure its sweet but in the description it said romantic comedy..? Where? Maybe I missed it but it was mostly about healing inner trauma which wasn't entirely disclosed in the blurb/summary so it was more than I could handle. Mental health is very important, and men who don't believe that drive me insane. Anyways, spice was mid-tier but I was here for it! Especially Halloween night hehehehe.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC!♥

I really enjoyed the narrators for this book. Joe Arden is always great.

I was hoping this was going to be a rom com but it was a little too angsty for me unfortunately.

I remain a big fan of Mazey Eddings and her ability to craft meaningful, witty romance. The Plus One centers on Jude and Dira. Jude is a physician who travels to war torn areas of the world to provide humanitarian medical care and as a result struggles with PTSD. Dira, on the other hand, has a well balance and ideal life with her dream job. These two childhood enemies come together for a wedding event and their connection is genuine, tender, and healing.

Sincere thanks to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a good book! This is the third book in the A Brush With Love series. You will want to read the series in order for it to make more sense. The author does such a great job at making her books feel so realistic and relatable. Her characters are so great, you will love them. There’s also a ton of steam in this book! If you haven’t read this series yet, I recommend checking it out!

This is my second book by Maezy Edding. I really enjoy her ability to bring up serious topics while also bringing banter and joy to the reader. An imperfect perfect story about mental health, childhood enemies to lovers and family.

Beautiful

1. 𝑩𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓’𝒔 𝑩𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝑭𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅, 𝑭𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝑫𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑵𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒔 - So many great tropes rolled into this one. Indira and Jude make the perfect combination of an enemies-to-lovers couple!
2. 𝑷𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒖𝒕 𝑩𝒖𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 - I will never in my life look at peanut butter the same way again 😂

This was a really good read. It gave a glimpse into the lives of us who deal with PTSD, and I think that's why I appreciate this book so much.

This is the 2nd book I’ve read by Eddings. While part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.

Don’t let the pretty cover fool you - both our MCs are dealing with heavy topics, so please check TWs before you read.

I will always praise audiobooks that use dual narration for dual POV books. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Recommended if you enjoy:
-brother’s best friend
-childhood enemies-to-lovers
-fake dating
-forced proximity
-mental health rep

Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for my ALC. The Plus One is out now!

After reading this book, I then went on to listen the audiobook, which was deranged on my side, but gives me enough merit to say that the narration was awesome! I can only imagine how hard it just be to bring the characters to life. To deliver so much emotion and angst only through voice. Great job!!

I’m cleaning up my Feedback bookshelf and trying to give reviews for past books I’ve read. I listened to this as an audiobook and recall that I really enjoyed the two narrators. The storyline kept me interested and the characters were developed with their own flaws, insecurities, quirks, and humor. Thanks for the advanced reader copy!

Okay, this was actually really cute. This is the first book I've read by the author so I'll definitely have to read some more soon. I will note that this is not a typical rom com, despite some of the funny moments. This book dealt with several heavy topics so make sure to check the trigger warnings. I think the author did a wonderful job at approaching these subjects in a respectful way. And even with heavy topics this book was laugh out loud funny at times. The dynamic between Jude and Indira was so realistic and never felt forced. They had some wonderful banter too. If you like a romance with some heavy topics and witty banter then The Plus Ones is for you.

Thank you to the author, the publishers, and netgalley for this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first Mazey Eddings's book. This is the third book in the A Brush with Love series. Indira and Jude's enemies to lovers romance is well written, sweet, complex, passionate, and emotional. The characters are interesting. This is a good brother's best friend romance. Imani Jade Powers and Joe Arden did an excellent job bringing this story to life. #NetGalley

While being a cute romance with quirky characters, I found this one to just be average. I didn't love it as much as Lizzy Blake.

Short synopsis: After walking in on my boyfriend sleeping with someone else (peanut butter involved) Indira restarts her life, and runs into her brothers best friend/childhood nemesis Jude.

My thoughts: I’ve decided that Mazey can write such amazing, thoughtful, tender characters and I just love them! Indira and Jude is no different, they are just so caring and tender with and really strive to understand each other.

There were some laugh out loud moments, but some really thought provoking moments too about really digging down deep and finding yourself through honesty. Also, this definitely heats up the spice factor!

Mazey has such a great way of discussing very important topics in such a healthy and honest way. Mental health in any capacity is so important!

This book took the brother's best friend and fake dating trope and added a bunch of trauma to the mix. Overall, the book wasn't bad. The characters had complex backgrounds, and there were relatable aspects in the story.

This book takes itself far too seriously. I read romances to have some lighthearted fun, not plum depths.
I literally rolled my eyes several times while listening to this. It could have been good if it wasn't so pious and endlessly angsty.

Everyone is broken but there's still hope.

This book is the therapy I didn’t know I needed. It’s quirky, funny, heartfelt, and JUDE. My heart. Joe Arden had me crying in all the best ways. I feel so much of what Jude is going through and I just wanted to hug him throughout this whole book. Imani Jade Powers is great as Indira too, who is fighting her own inner battles.

I love how much The Plus One focuses on mental health, and points out that yeah, you can set a broken bone or stop the bleeding from an injury, but that is just the first step. You can’t truly heal if your mind is hurt, and so many times we push away things like PTSD because it can’t be seen. We tell ourselves we’re fine, other people are fine, because we don’t look like we’re broken, but we are. And it’s okay to ask for help.

Indira and Jude are two people who look like they’ve got it all together, but really they don’t. They’re awkward and insecure, and the only thing keeping them from being together is their own thoughts and worries. For all the heaviness of their inner turmoil though, they do still manage to have some funny camping time, and fake dating turned real attraction that has everybody shocked. This was a quick, fun read for me and the first book from Mazey Eddings I've read. I'll have to check out her others.
