Two things will get me to buy a book if it’s by an author I’ve never read before, one is the cover and two is the synopsis. If either one of these draws me in, I’ll take a chance and I’m usually pretty happy. The synopsis got me on this one but the book kind of fell short.

Gabe and Rebecca (Reb) are about three weeks from their divorce being final when he needs her to help him with a business merger. Rebecca agrees but only if Gabe gives her something she really wants. He reluctantly agrees and they are thrown together for a week of business meetings and social engagements.

I really had a hard time liking these two characters. Gabe was too absorbed with his business and he liked keeping Reb hanging by a string which infuriated me. Reb seems selfish and self centered and to be honest like she only married Gabe for two reasons, a baby and what he could give her. Yes, I realize they married quickly, however if they just took some time to talk maybe they wouldn’t have married or maybe they wouldn’t have been so far apart that she felt it necessary to file for divorce. I didn’t like that Gabe was so wishy-washy, he loves her one minute and is pushing her away the next. Reb’s no better as she decides to just flat out hide what she’s feeling so she doesn’t have to deal with the hurt. They both just seemed a little immature in their actions.

The whole business merger and faking a happy relationship for the sake of one of the people involved seemed a little strange to me. It’s not like people don’t get divorced anymore so tell the man, it’s over. Why go with this over the top charade? I also thought it was strange this man who barely knows them feels the need to share his life story and give them advice. Then there’s Gabe’s grandmother who meddles non-stop and seems to keep pushing him to keep his wife.

After reading this book, I found that it is a re-issue of a book that was written in 2006 and I’m wondering if that’s why I had such a hard time with it. Romantic fiction has grown by leaps and bounds over the last few years, it has changed greatly and this book just doesn’t compare with what is out there today. While I like the premise of this book, I found Mr.and Mrs.to be lacking.
