McCaulley's work is a gift to the church. It puts flesh on abstract christian categories such as "grace", "forgiveness", "forbearance", and "patience". McCaulley shares his story vulnerably and with humility. He is not the hero of his story, neither does he place another human in that category. Rather, he paints a picture of humanity - with all of it's dirt and all of it's beauty - and show's how Christ's love draws each of us along.

In How Far to the Promise Land author Esau McCaulley reflects on growing up black in Alabama. He writes about his families history and how he is where he is today. With heavy themes of family this book was an excellent memoir!

I have enjoyed Esau McCaulley's wisdom in his previous works, and really appreciated learning more about his growing up years.
