Absolutely fantastic. A brand new series from Ross Greenwood which I think is even better than the last. Great set of characters and interesting relationships. I can't wait to see how this series will progress.

I LOVED this book and read way into the early hours to finish it! I was enthralled by the plot, finding the final pieces to the jigsaw of a complicated crime, linked to an event 30 years before.

The members of Norfolk’s Major Investigation Team are portrayed realistically, as a tight knit group, with their own distinctive characteristics and bond. They were highly motivated and dedicated in their search for answers. I felt like I really got to know DS Ashley Knight and her new partner, Hector Fade, who is on the Police graduate scheme, as they themselves got to understand each other. This helps the reader begin to understand their back stories.

They meet interesting characters during the investigation: Geoffrey, Homeless Bob, Mrs Sweet to name but a few, all well-rounded ‘real’ people.

Cromer, as a setting, was perfect, a picture postcard old-fashioned holiday resort. And for me there was the added bonus of knowing the area well. I could ‘see’ the action as it happened, although the book is so well written that I believe all readers will be able to imagine the scenes.

The pace of the book was urgent, whilst retaining the realistic workload of actually solving the crime. I felt like I worked hard alongside the team, trying to put the pieces together, changing direction of my thinking numerous times.

I am so glad this is the start of a series, so I can look forward to getting back to the team soon. A brilliant police-procedural!

The opening of this book gets off to a gripping start with a double murder on the beach, with an edge of jeopardy thrown into the mix. The hopeless situation of the opening lent to the tension and horror at the crime scene. I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins.
As we meet the new DS, Ashley Knight, we discover that while slightly jaded, she is still a good detective and determined to find the murderer. Cromer is where she spent her childhood, and she has inherited a seafront house that will serve her well as she settles into her new position. Paired with Hector Fade, it’s not a perfect combination, but she soon learns that he’s reliable and has skills that will come in useful.
Initial thoughts have the suspects as a local drug gang, but as the clues and investigation gain momentum, suspicion points a lot closer to home. The pace at which the story moved was terrific and I felt as though I was part of the investigation. I could certainly feel the tension mounting as my mind raced ahead to identify the guilty party.
I felt safe in this author’s hands as each new element was brought to light and the twists became apparent. I can now see where Ross Greenwood’s popularity comes from as he clearly knows his way around the criminal mind as well as police procedures.
I am already looking forward to reading more from this author and know that I’ll be in for a real treat.

Jumped at the chance to read this new series from the author of one of recent favourite police procedural series with the refreshingly normal DI Barton.

In this series we meet DS Ashley Knight who is tasked with investigating when a couple are found on the local beach. She is also looking after new fast-tracked DC Hector Fade and together they start to get to get to grips with the case, when things start to get way more complicated!

As a series opener, this was a great read. Alongside the main plot, there is a fair amount of scene setting and introductions, but they feel like a good bunch of characters and I am definitely looking forward to reading more!

Death on Cromer Beach by Ross Greenwood is the first book in the new DS Ashley Knight series. This new series was full of excellent twists and turns throughout that will just have you gripped from the very first few pages. It was an excellent Police procedural book with brilliant characters.

I love the way Ross Greenwood writes all his books he always writes with so much detail that will draw you in right from the start till the end!

I highly recommend this latest book by Ross and all his other books They will not disappoint!

The first in a new series DS Ashley Knight set in Norfolk. Love how this author writes, this is a great new police procedural with some characters I know are going to be must reads. I really liked the main protagonists Ashley and Hector and thought their interaction was brilliantly portrayed. Ashley is a hard assed woman who has recently split up with her partner and isn’t portrayed as very approachable. Hector is a rookie detective who has been fast tracked and although their early interaction is a bit fraught it’s good to see their relationship gelling as the investigation progresses.

Briefly, a lady walking her dog on Cromer beach is alerted by her dog to two buckets set in the sand with bricks on top. Curious, she lifts one to find a decapitated man’s head which rolls into the sea. Lifting the other one she discovers a female, buried up to her neck but alive. The incoming tide is moving so fast that despite her best efforts she is unable to save her. DS Ashley Knight of the Norfolk MIT is put in charge of the investigation as her boss is off on sick leave. Questions come thick and fast as more corpses are found on the beach.

An excellent plotline with a dark motive for the killings and a shocking ending. Followers of the writer will love this one and I’m sure it will engender a whole new fan base, personally I can’t wait for the next book to see how our characters develop. A cracking police procedural with twists and turns all the way through. Loved it.

A new exciting series from Ross Greenwood. I love the way Ross Greenwood writes and I always get immersed in the story from the first page.

I love police procedurals, especially the ones set in UK. I also love badass detectives - the ones who have non-existent personal lives and highly functional professional lives. DS Ashely is one such detective - she's had a wild teenage life, struggled with alcohol for a couple of years, lost her partner after an accident (he moved away as their relationship turned 'zombie'), and recently broke up with her girlfriend.

Coming to the murder mystery, first, two 'hippies' are found brutally murdered on the beach. As the detectives start investigating, they learn something about the victims - something to do with their past. Then, another body is found on the beach and things take a turn for worse.

I really loved the plot-to-story development. We readers are taken for a roller coaster ride - recollection of a past event that has led to recent killings. The second half of the book is where things get murkier and murkier.

My only niggle with this story was the pacing. As a first in the series, the emphasis is on scene setting, character introduction and series-plot setting. The second half of the book is where we see the case take a turn for worse - and the pacing improves a tad. Also, there's repetition of the suspects/witnesses' recollection - which could have been shortened.

Overall, Death on the Cromer Beach by Ross Greenwood is a interesting and impressive series debut. I am looking forward to knowing what's next for Ashley and Hector.

On the whole I liked this book, though it seemed over long at times. The crimes were intricate and the plot came together gradually and the action picked up . This is a new series so there is a fair amount of scene setting and information about the characters which felt a little too clunky and contrived at times.
The main detective, Ashley, is not particularly likeable , though I expect that as the series progresses, I will feel more sympathy for her. There are several more in the team who are less fleshed out . Following the detectives way of thinking was also not always easy. I look forward to reading more about this team and will reserve judgement until I have because I think it has potential to be an interesting crime and detective series.

Ashley is on a day off when she is called in to investigate a rather nasty double murder. Two bodies have been found on Cromer beach. She is assigned deputy SIO and allocated new start, fast tracked, Hector Fade (great name) to help. She's a bit nonplussed about her sidekick but gets on with the job anyway. They are just starting to investigate when then there's another body, and thing take a downward turn...!
As with all series openers there's a bit of scene setting and series character introductions to be found. This is, of course, outwith the main investigation but par for the course and is not overly intrusive. I warmed to Ashley from the start and her relationship with Hector stumbled at the start but started to settle down quite quickly, his strengths overcoming his weaknesses quite early.
The crime committed was juicy, gruesome in places, well plotted and executed (pun intended) and held my attention nicely from the off. It also mostly kept me on my ties with guessing, which was nice :) Certain things in the investigation are handled with sensitivity which I respected.
The writing is good, pacing matched the narrative and there was scant waffle and padding - enough description to complement the story being told rather than being a distraction.
All in all, a good solid opener to a series that I will definitely be interested in following. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

As a frequent visitor to Cromer i was very interested to see what this book would be like. i really enjoyed the storylline and the local references.
The book begins with the discovery of two bodies on Cromer beach, as we progress through the book the body count is growing and there is a race to find the killer. i found some parts quite meaty and graphic so if you have a weak tollerance for that then maybe this isnt the book for you.
I understand that this is the start of a new series and i'd be very interested to read the following books in the series. Normally with this kind of book i guess the killer which is a bit frustrating but i didn't with this book which made it even more pleasurable.

Detective Ashley Knight is introduced to us with a spine tingling crime scene. Two bodies have been found on Cromer beach, one decapitated, the other was buried up to their neck and left for dead. Soon the body count grows and it really is a race against time to find the killer before anyone else is harmed.
It is good to have a new detective series. This dialogue was quite long and drawn out in places, but made a gritty read. Some scenes were quite graphic, perfect for any Chris Carter fans!

I love this first book in the new ds ashley Knight series. When ds ashley knight is given the job to solve the case of a double murder on cromer she is also teamed up with a young dc hector fade, who is on the fast track route to promotion.
Why would anyone murder these two people who are well known in the community??? As the plot unfolds more bodies are found all having one thing in common........... a party on the beach 30 years ago.. But who would cause such pain? There is a killer on the loose but who? And is one of their own involved somehow? Fast paced, gripped me from the start. Highley recommend. Book 2 please. ....

This is a great start to a new crime series.
Having lived in Norwich all my life, I’m a frequent visitor to Cromer and it brought a smile to my face each time the author mentioned somewhere I recognised.
Ashley is called out when two bodies are found on Cromer beach and it’s clear straight away that they’ve been murdered.
Having a new partner join her makes her a bit worried but they get on well and Hector is soon part of the team.
There’s lots of suspects for the murders and this isn’t helped when more people are killed in the seaside town.
I didn’t work out who the killer was as there were too many people to choose from and it certainly kept me guessing.
I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.

It's a very enjoyable read, with interesting, believable characterisation and a gritty, topical plot, centred around drug addiction and homelessness. Ashley is called in on her day off for a murder enquiry, two bodies have been found in a gruesome murder on Cromer beach. She is deputy SIO and has her hands full because what looks initially like a punishment killing is, on closer inspection, a meticulously planned murder. Ably assisted by fast track new start, Hector Fade, she starts her investigation, only to be blindsided by another body.

I thoroughly enjoyed Death on Cromer Beach, which is as much about Ashley as it is about the murder enquiry. This is understandable as it’s a new series and it makes sense to let the reader get acquainted with her and her backstory, especially as the novel is told from her point of view.

The investigation is tricky. There are bodies, graffiti about the murders and several suspects to navigate and it isn’t easy to find a path through it. There isn’t much I can say about it without issuing spoilers, except that it is fairly boilerplate until the ending, which is a surprise in more ways than one. By boilerplate I mean that Ashley and Hector follow the clues and red herrings, find unsuspected links between the victims and generally get played by a smart perpetrator.

I like Ashley, who is an experienced detective with a lot of living under her belt. She is alone in her life, as past trauma has made her push people away. I like that she is trying to sort her life out and her tentative attempts are definite green shoots. The reader doesn’t get to know Hector as well, maybe in the next novel, but he’s a good foil for her and they are already developing a close working relationship. They bring a warmth to the novel that the investigation doesn’t.

Death on Cromer Beach is a good read that I can recommend.

I absolutely love it when a book hooks me within the first 20 pages! I couldn’t wait to keep reading. I’m excited to read more in the series!! Bring on the mysteries!
