I did not realize this was part of a series, but I was able to understand what was happening for the most part. I want to read the first ones before trying to read this again.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reading copy of the storm darkens by Valerie storm. This was the 3rd book in the series. A cute read. The cover art was adorable.

Fun, fresh, fast read with lots of romance and tugs on the heartstrings. Love the cover art. This would make a great anytime read but it was definitely well- suited to the spring. All around satisfying reading experience.

(Note: This book was a NetGalley copy given in exchange for an honest review).

Kari is a wolf-demon hybrid that defeated the Raven queen in the last book in the series. Now, she is plagued by nightmares of the Raven and drawn towards a mystical glowing tree in the demon infested woods around Rizac. To complicate matters, she is also riddled with a pain that no herb or healer seems to be able to help lessen. Ari, her significant other, does everything in his power to love and help her through her situation.

The book showed great storytelling and pleasing pacing. The slower portions of the book were broken up by demon attacks and mystery solving. But, I was confused frequently by the fact that a lot of the names were similar or close enough that replacing one letter would make them the same. This led to confusion and disorientation when trying to grasp individual characters and what they were doing. I did love that the tree changed color according to the souls it had absorbed. I may have to pick up the first two books since the plot intrigued me and I felt like I was missing vital chunks of information. (I will note that naming the origin kingdom almost the same exact as the forest did make the pages filled with history lessons extremely confusing.)

THE BEST SERIES and author you have NEVER heard of!! Let's change that.
GO and get Books 1 (Birth of the Storm) and Book 2 (Storm and Shadow)...you don't need to, but I highly recommend you do so.
Kari is so lovable and though we know what her master-plan is, we want her to be happy. And well, she kind of is now in book 3. Afterall...what does she have to lose? No spoilers here, But something really major happened in book 2. Which is recapped for you in case Kari is new to you.
This time around we deal with witches. Good times. Overall, the theme of the series is dark, and this time around it is darker. BUT it never depresses you and weighs you down. Instead of taking in too much and needing a break
You would rather read the whole thing in one sitting to see what the scrappy demon girl will do, to once again overcome.
The world building is phenomenal. The characters fully develop in front of you. And the prose. Don't get me started on the poetry and prose woven throughout. A way with words one finds in the classics.
I am going back and re-reading the series. A+++++++++++++

A strong third book in the Demon Storm series, it had what I was looking for from the series. Valerie Storm has a great writing style and it worked overall with the other books. The characters were what I was looking for and were written so well. I can't wait to read more from Valerie Storm and hopefully in this universe.

"She wrenched her back and drew long nails—now claws draped in shadow—across the woman’s throat. She dissolved into a pile of dust at Raven’s feet. The man slipped into shadow and ink, and Raven glanced back at Kari. She grinned and stepped forward, slipping into the abyss."
