This thrilling adventure explores ideas around girlhood, friendship and empowerment against the backdrop of a richly immersive world inspired by colonial India. Life in Moonlally is hard for Minou and her peers as the kingdom is ruled by a tyrannical General. Minou loses someone close to her and this sets in motion a series of incredible adventures. From being locked in the General's palace, to flying in a giant blimp, Minou must stay one step ahead of her adversaries in order to restore order to her beloved city.

Lots of nuance to appreciate here for confident readers. The exotic setting echoes classic adventure stories from the likes of Ibbotson, Kipling and Hardinge, but this book has the added bonus of being steeped in Indian culture and heritage.

I wish that I had such vivid books exploring the world and different cultures when I was growing up. This was a really heartwarming novel that I enjoyed reading to my nephew. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for helping to create special memories with my family through reading.

There have been a few good children's books recently about adventures through other lands and cultures. This is one of the better ones. The children could identify and empathise with the characters and enjoyed joining them on their adventures.

I quite enjoyed the story in this book, though it felt quite trope-y in places (I suspect a child not used to them wouldn't notice/care!).

Some of the words and terms I did need to look up, a small glossary at the back might've been an idea for those of us not steeped in Indian culture, that's something to be aware of if you're giving this to a child.

Overall I'd recommend it, it was a fun story and the characters are very likeable

I received an advance copy for free from NetGalley, on the expectation that I would provide an honest review.

A fun and quick read.

I enjoyed this book a lot because it was quick and easy to understand but also because I really liked the characters and the scenery involved.

Our main character had to be my favorite, due to her outspoken personality and quick wit.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I
highly recommend.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me an ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
