Cassie Peters has
left her busy life and abusive husband in New York City. Armed with a burner phone she returns to her roots and somehow quickly falls back into old patterns. As people start to go missing around her, there seems to be a striking similarity to the last time she was home. Or is there?

Good read! Loved uncovering the connections and mysteries at the end. Highly recommended.

Cassie is running away, she's putting miles and miles between her and her life, returning herself to where her life originally went off the rails 10 years ago. Can she return and restart her life over? Or will her New York past catch up to her in the mountains of Yosemite?

This book was brilliantly written. Fast paced, but with a lot of details about the park and climbing that you could visualize yourself out on the trails with the SAR teams. Every character is realistic and believable, and the rescues feel like a "ripped from the newspaper" incident,

I don't want to give anything away but that twisty ending had me unable to put the book down. Incredibly well done. Makes me want MORE.

Have You Seen Her by Catherine McKenzie

This is a well-paced, atmospheric thriller.

Cassie leaves a life of art, wine bars, and yoga to live and work in the wilds of Yosemite. After being away for a decade she returns to join a search and rescue team where 10 mile hikes, rock climbing, and saving people are daily occurrences.

What she left behind, she worries will catch up to her soon, her husband. She didn’t tell him she was going and she fears he will find her.

While this story is plot heavy, there are interesting characters and relationships developing throughout. The novel is told though time shifts then and now, though multiple points of view, and a variety of media.

I liked this book, but there was a late shift in the story and a character reveal that was almost cop-out; read it and you’ll know what I mean.

You’ll enjoy this if you like
- moody reads
- remote settings
- psychological thriller

Thanks to @NetGalley @simonschusterca @atriabooks and the author for this arc

Have You Seen Her is textbook @catherinemckenzieauthor goodness - a mysterious lead character with a murky past chasing her, a cool and atmospheric setting, shady side characters, a missing persons mystery at the core of the plot and then BOOM, twists you didn’t see coming.

I absolutely loved it.

This is the type of book I want in summer - something a little gritty, that sucks you right in, and then totally surprises me right in the last third of the book (in a good way).

I loved the shift in storytelling too - Cassie’s narrative mixed with the “IG post” style chapters that kept revealing bits of Jade’s story and Petal’s journal entries. I wasn’t sure how it was all going to play out, but I did love how Catherine McKenzie sticks the ending with the very right amount of OMG WTF energy.

Truly, one for thriller lovers this summer. Get this one on your lists and enjoy a rollercoaster of drama.

Thank you @simonschusterca for the copy! @catherinemckenzieauthor I cannot wait to see what you dream up next.

Cassie Peter's dropped her entire life in New York without telling a sole she was leaving or where she was going. It's time to start her life over again, and what better place to start over again then her hometown. Thankfully, no one from her present life knows where her hometown is...

Cassie quickly falls into her old routine of work and friends, with a little romance on the side. Unfortunately, her happiness quickly disappears when she starts to receive unwanted texts from an unwanted person. Lies, secrets, and nothing but twists and turns is exactly what you can expect from this one

Nothing like a sunny day and a thriller in your hand.☀️

Have You Seen Her follows Cassie - on the run from her past. She has recently escaped her life in New York and returns to her hometown - joining a search and rescue squad in Yosemite. The job also brings bad memories but Cassie is determined to escape it all. When some hikers go missing, causing a media storm, Cassie’s chances of escaping become hard and she’ll do anything to get free.🤔

I really enjoyed this one. Multiple timelines and a fast pace make this one an easy read! Loved the atmosphere of Yosemite and rock climbing. The ending did feel a little rushed but I definitely didn’t see it coming. Overall, this was good company on a sunny day.⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

This book was great! It had mystery, suspense and an unexpected twist at the end!
Cassie is leaving her abusive husband and heading back to her hometown to work Search and Rescue in a national park. The author does a great job at bringing you into Cassie's day to day life coping with trauma and doing her best.
I highly recommend the book, it was a quick read and I couldn't put it down.

Catherine McKenzie does it again! The twist and turn at the end was not expected at all!

Cassie is running away from her ex-husband Kevin who has been abusive. She calls her friend Jenny for help and a job as a search and rescue team member again. She meets some interesting people at the park who become intertwined in her story.

I don’t want to give too much away but the story will keep you guessing to the end! I really enjoyed it!

This was my first Catherine Mckenzie (though, I do have others on my TBR) and it will not be my last. A thriller centering around search and rescue at Yosemite National Park really intrigued me. Cassie Peters, having recently left her life in New York City, begins working again for search and rescue. Although she quickly falls back into the lifestyle, befriending a group of fellow seasonal workers, a case she had worked a decade prior continues to haunt her.

The setting really drew me in. I have not been to Yosemite (yet) but I’ve seen it featured in plenty of documentaries of the years. I was instantly able to picture Cassie’s surroundings. Reading this as camping season draws nearer, really made me want to pack up my tent and go camping!

I really enjoyed the dual timelines. The story alters between the present day after a major event, and the past leading up to it. It made for a twisty rollercoaster of a story with twists and turns that definitely took me by surprise. While Cassie was an interesting and mysterious main character, I also enjoyed the various side characters. Petal in particular, had me intrigued.

The romantic subplot was a bit unnecessary to the story, in my opinion. It took me out of the story a little. There was a lot more going on that was more interesting, in my opinion.

If you’re looking for a fast paced thriller to read this summer, Have You Seen Her is certainly one to add to the list! Was it perfect? No. But, was it a fun binge read? Absolutely!

Thank you @netgalley & @simonschusterca for the eARC in exchange for an honest review! Have You Seen Her is out on June 27th!

⭐3.5/5 stars⭐

Have You Seen Her is the latest thriller by Catherine McKenzie and centres around Cassie Peters who has joined the Yosemite Search and Rescue Team and is trying to escape her past. When a young couple goes missing the rescue team is put in action frantically searching for them. However, another person quickly goes missing who had known the couple. Is it a coincidence or is it connected? These disappearances bring up Cassie’s traumatic past as well as her present life where she is fleeing an abusive husband. Thinking she had successfully escaped her husband by leaving zero trace of her whereabouts she quickly suspects he has found her. Now she must keep hidden and one step ahead of him or her life will also be in danger.

What I liked about the book:
-dual timelines
-badass female characters who are just as strong and capable as their male counterparts in the dangerous job of search and rescue at Yosemite park
-fascinating world of search and rescue teams who risk their own lives to save others
-Yosemite Park setting
-well developed characters, I particularly enjoyed Petal
-writing style-I enjoyed the various tools used such as diary entries, newspaper articles and instagram posts in addition the regular storytelling which enriched the novel
-the twists and turns throughout the book
-the ending- WOW!

What I didn’t like about the book:
-Cassie frustrated me at times and seemed her own worst enemy but I think her decisions added to the tension of the story

My rating: 5 out of 5!

My final takeaway: I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy twisty action packed thrillers. As someone who is not a fan of the great outdoors I still loved this book and was taken by the world of Yosemite Park search and rescue climbing team. The writing style kept me engaged as well as the interesting and dynamic characters. For fans of the movie Sleeping With The Enemy this is a book for you.

Trigger warning: death, gaslighting, domestic abuse and violence

Many thanks to Netgalley and Simon and Schuster Canada Atria books for this eARC.

Cassie Peters decides it's finally time to leave her abusive husband and seek out some place she feels safe. She returns to a previous job of search and rescue near her old hometown. Cassie has to first confront a pass rescue that ended in the death of a person she knew and the lasting effects on her. During her stay she becomes acquainted with some couples camping at the park and when they disappear, Cassie and her crew are on the search.
I wasn't a fan of the writing style, finding it confusing but once I got into and became acquainted with the characters it was easier to stay on track.

Have You Seen Her is a slow burn thriller that is so captivating. It was really interesting to read about a missing person case happening in the wilderness from the point of view of the Search and Rescue team members, as opposed to from the point of view of the person missing.

I’m going to mention it again: this one is a sloooow burn but is SO worth it! I ended up LOVING it and I promise it’s worth the wait for the last ⅓ of the book!

I could not put this book down! 4.5 stars rounded to 5. I did not see the twist coming however I don’t know how much I loved the twist. Either way, I really enjoyed the dual timelines, the setting in Yosemite and the characters and how you just don’t know how they relate.

Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.

I’m so glad I was able to read this as an advanced copy!! I love Catherine Mckenzies’ books

I loved how this book was so different with the setting. It takes place in Yosemite. With climbing, search and rescues, camping, bears and everything outdoorsy. It was such an interesting thriller to read!

That ending though?! And I didn’t see that plot twist coming. Round of applause for that one!!

This is a must read! I highly recommend adding this book to your TBR! Going into this book blind would be amazing, which is why I didn’t give the synopsis away.

(I also caught on to the one user name on Jada’s Instagram- clever 😉)

I wanted to love this more but I don't think it really did it for me. There were too many confusing timeline jumps and characters. However, Cassie is starting over, leaving her husband and going to work with the Search and Rescue team at Yosemite, after a failed rescue.

This is the first book I’ve read from the author, and I really enjoyed it. Smart, well-paced, multi-dimensional characters, and surprises right up to the end. I loved the Yosemite Park setting and appreciated the realistic touches. The author included a variety of small side stories and writing style, including instagram posts, that kept the storyline fresh & engaging. Highly recommend adding this to your summer (or anytime) reading list!

💕You might like this book if:
🔹 you enjoyed movies such as Sleeping With The Enemy
🔹 you enjoy a book set primarily in an outdoors / natural setting
🔹you’re interested in learning a bit about the life / role of park Search & Rescue crews

Cassie is hiding, but from who? Or what? In a dual timeline story, we are given the plot through social media posts, journal entries and from Cassie’s point of view.

Working Search and Rescue in Yosemite, we get glimpses of Cassie’s current story and her past which includes the tragic death of a friend, a complicated relationship with her mother and a toxic partner.

A couple goes missing in the park and a search begins? Followed by another disappearance. You begin to wonder how are these incidents all connected? OR are they?

I really enjoyed this novel-I did not see the twists and turns coming and I like that the author left you wondering a little bit at the end. The characters were likeable, but layered and they remind you that you may never really know someone entirely. I enjoyed the component of women supporting women and the detailed explanations of what it’s like working search and rescue.

"Have You Seen Her" is a gripping thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. The author masterfully weaves together a complex plot full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the final reveal. The characters are well-developed and intriguing, and the pacing is perfect, building tension and suspense with each turn of the page. The attention to detail and the vivid descriptions of the setting and atmosphere add to the overall feeling of unease and danger that permeates the story. Overall, "Have You Seen Her" is a must-read for fans of the thriller genre, and a testament to the author's skill at crafting suspenseful, engrossing novels.

I loved this book, just as much as I’ve loved everything else I’ve read by Catherine McKenzie! I really enjoyed trying to piece together how all the characters were going to tie together in the end. The little sprinklings of other media throughout (instagram posts, newspaper articles, diary entries etc.) were super fun and something I am always a fan of. As a huge thriller reader, Have You Seen Her is one I will 100% be recommending to my reader friends.

I was so excited when I got this ARC, and binged it in one sitting this afternoon.

Sadly, this just didn't do it for me. I was far too confused with the timeline jumps, and too many characters here. I felt this was trying to do simply too much for what it could deliver.

I also noticed the author said, you cannot see if someone read your message on Instagram, which is false. I hope that gets edited out.

By the end I was more glad it was over.
