SM used to be one of my favourite romantic suspense authors- she knows how to write suspense and steam. But lately I don’t seem to enjoy her books as much and this definitely fell into that category.

Our heroine’s brother is missing and she is determined to do whatever it takes to find him. She ends up writing to an inmate and pretending to be in love with him for intel and when she finally goes to meet him she ends up having to run for her life with the escaped prisoner because she is in over her head.

How the heroine could feel anything for the hero when he honestly treats her terribly and ties her up (all to protect her apparently) I have no idea. But all of a sudden they are spouting love and I am left scratching my head. If it weren’t for wanting to see what happened with the brother I think I would have stopping reading 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Overall, I thought the book was well written. I do know that this is the first book in the series and I can only imagine the rest of the series will be great. The concept was really good for the book and the reason I wanted to read it in the first place. It did take me a little bit to get fully invested into the book itself but once I was in it, I was in it. I love a book with some good suspense in it and this book definitely had the suspense. I'm usually not a huge advocate of insta love but Jed and Freya really did make up for that. They were a great couple.
I liked this book a good amount and would recommend it to others but I definitely cannot wait until the next book in the series comes out to continue being immersed into this world.

A story that for me took a little while to figure out. Once I did it was a good story fast paced and full of action. It starts with Jed Clearwater in prison who at one time was an Army Ranger, he and others got out and worked together for a security firm, and due to a program that was written by one of the group's brothers, the brother and others were killed or made to look, they were. Jed lived and ended up in prison he found one person who had worked with someone that stole the code and had hidden it, he is wanting to find the hiding spot to clear himself and others. Meanwhile, a woman named Saddie has been writing Jed though Jed does not go by that name he goes by a different and Saddie is not Saadie but the sister to the brother that is missing, Jed has not seen her since she was fourteen and does did not remember her. It is not until later when someone is trying to kill them that this comes out. Jed at times is a pain especially when he handcuffs her to the bed and leaves for hours a very intense scene. That does change things between the two characters. A good story with lots of action/

Shannon Mckenna was an unknown author for me. But the blurb of Master of Lies made me curious.

And I’m very happy to have been granted the arc, although the suspense was killing me near the end. The story is fast paced, sometimes a little bit over the top and a wee little bit unbelievable. But it keeps you on the edge of your seat. At the start of the book it can be a bit confusing, since Freya is in disguise as an other character. And since this is the first book of the series, all the characters are new. But, once you have learned who is who, the story will start to unfold.

The scenes with torture and violence were a bit too explicit for my likings, but since I’m more of a Disney happy kind of girl, I don’t think it should stop you. In all a very entertaining book and I’ll certainly will look out to the next part of the series. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

Mostly entertaining but some parts were a bit of a stretch as Freya pretends to be a blond bimbo visiting Jed in prison because she wants to find out how Jed betrayed her brother. Jed, who did not betray the brother, is in prison undercover.

Unwittingly, Freya's appearance at the jail reveals that James Craig, the prisoner, is really Jed Clearwater.

The quick change from hating Jed to falling for him was off to me but then I have never been in that situation...lol

Lots of action and drama, some harrowing moments when Freya has to stall while entering the passwords until rescue would arrive. Shane is still not located so hoping that he will be found in the next book.

Oh wow! What an awesome read! Suspense, action, and romance, dang just what I like. When Frey sets out to find her missing brother, she finds she must become someone that she is not to get information. Jed is undercover in prison, trying to find information on his missing best friend. When a sexy blond starts writing him he think he doesnt have time. When she shows up at the prison, he thinks let the fun begin!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

Overall Opinion :
Shane is here! First of all I would like to give this author a huge fr asking shoutout for not only battling cancer but also coming out more ruthless and amazing as ever! Lily is truly an inspiration.

I was heartbroken when I got to know that this series was being put on hold a few years ago but then even more devastated when I got to know the reason why. And then somehow this woman performs a literal miracle and gives this book to us! I will forever be thankful.

Shane and Brinley have an amazing tale of love and hate. The characters are amazing and the banter in this book is to die for like all the books of this series. This author never fails to make me laugh with her jokes! Next up is Damon and I am so glad to say that we do meet his woman in this book and I am already losing my mind about it.

Definitely recommending this one to all the dark romance loving people out there.

Shannon McKenna introduces her new Unredeemables series with Master of Lies, Freya and Jed's story.
Freya's brother Shane has been abducted and is likely in great danger and she believes Jed Clearwater is the only person alive who can give her information that might help her find him. Jed is Shane's former friend and business partner who betrayed him, leading to his abduction and the death of some of their friends and colleagues.

For reasons unknown to Freya, Jed is currently in prison under an assumed identity. Freya decides to approach him as "Sandee" a lonely woman looking for love with a pen-pal inmate. Jed is undercover in the prison attempting to get information from an informant so he can find out who set him up to take the fall for what happened to Shane and his other friends. Through a series of circumstances, Jed and Freya end up on the run together trying to find answers and survive those who are hunting them.

I haven't read Shannon McKenna since the McCloud brothers series and it was nice to fall back into one of her worlds. I enjoyed Master of Lies, although there were some aspects of the story that I found to be a bit too simplistic, such as Jed needing Freya to help him figure out the "meaning" behind the name given to him by his prison informant (which, in my mind was very obvious). If McKenna wanted Freya to display her intelligence and prove how vital she was in Jed's investigation, I felt like her contribution should have been a little more impressive.
Overall I enjoyed Master of Lies and I will definitely read the other books in the series.

The blurb sounded amazing, and I heard good things about Shannon McKenna, so I gave this a whirl. I had a hard time staying engaged with the story. Instead of interesting twists in the story, it felt more like a random change. The characters were interesting and fit the story well. I enjoyed the action in the story but could have done without so much random steamy times.

This was good. The series set up is interesting and I like the characters introduced so far, will definitely read the next one.

After Jed Clearwater was framed for selling out one of his best friends, he's been undercover in prison trying to get answers from one of the inmates that worked with his enemy. He just about to clear his name and make his escape when a blonde bombshell, the woman who's been writing him and seemingly falls for convicts, visits him and puts herself in his enemies' crosshairs. Now, not only does he have to escape, he has to rescue her as well. No amount of combat training can keep this particular troublemaker out of danger, but soon rescuing her is more important than his own life.
Freya is desperately searching for her missing brother, determined to get answers out of Jed even if she had to trick him by seducing him. All undercover of course. But she gets more than she planned for when armed men show up at her hotel and Jed shows up to save her at the last minute. She never planned on confronting him without bars between them. How can she help him find her brother when he's determined to keep her safe?
This was a fun read, though a bit unrealistic. Freya's logic, even when using her bimbo undercover role, was shaky. One minute she's scared of him, the next she's submitting to a wild and crazy night. And don't get me started on the instalove! After three days?! But I did enjoy the suspense of them on the run from enemies and how tough and capable Jed's character is. I'm interested to find out what happens next, if they ever find Nicole and Shane.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I first started reading Shannon McKenna almost 20 years ago when I got sucked into the twisty world of the McClouds. I've been waiting for another world like that ever since we said goodbye to them and I feel like this series is it!

It starts off with out hero/heroine each trapped in their own web of deceit and the suspense and action just keep building from there. A new twist on best-friend's little sister and I am here for it. I loved watching Freya as she breaks out of the protective bubble her brothers have placed her in. She is dead-set on proving her brains, her wits, and her worth. And it is delightful to watch! Jed has only one goal, find the truth and save his friend. He has only ever known loss of anyone close to him. We get to watch these two battle first with each other and then for each other, as they come to realize they are stronger together.

I can't wait to see where this new series takes us. Waiting with bated breath for the next Unredeemable, much like we all waited for Kevin way back when!

I enjoy reading Shannon McKenna so much. Such an entertaining storyteller. She hits the trifecta: heart-tuggy emotions, fast-paced action, and turbocharged sensuality.

Master of Lies is a fast-paced gripping romantic suspense. This starts right off in the thick of the action and keeps going right up until the end. Freya has sought out Jed, pretending to be someone else, hoping to get a lead on her missing brother, while Jed is serving time, pretending to be a criminal in order to find Freya's missing brother. They come together when his prison breakout coincides with her visit to the prison and they are then thrown together trying to find her brother and stay alive. Although this is the first in the series, it reads as though it's more in the middle of a series and my guess is that this is a spinoff from another series. It still works as a standalone and wasn't a problem for me, just had me thinking I had missed a previous book. I loved the steam and action in this one and will definitely be tuning in for the next in the series!

I’ve been a longtime reader of Ms. McKenna’s works starting with the McCloud and Friends series so was over the moon to get a chance to read the first book in her new Redeemable series. For the most part, this book did not disappoint and was full of action-packed escapades and steamy-hot romance.

It is based on a group of ex-Special Force warriors who formed their own business, but tragedy strikes when enemies bomb their headquarters and kidnap founding member Shane McMasters. It appears that Jed Clearwater sold out his best friend Shane and now Shane’s siblings are looking for revenge against Jeb, in particular his youngest sister, Freya. She discovers that Jed is in prison and hatches a plan to get him to trust her. Little does she realize, but Jed is in there on purpose to find the person who is really responsible for Shane’s kidnapping. In the meantime, Freya’s brother Ethan, the head of the business, has no idea what she is up to.

The whole plot is a bit convoluted and far-reaching, but hey, it’s romantic suspense so let’s suspend belief a bit and go along with it. All in all, I enjoyed this book, although I did have trouble with the lightning-quick speed of the romantic connection between Jed and Freya. Plus, she was easily swayed from her conviction of his guilt to going along with him on his wild ride.

I think other readers of romantic suspense will enjoy the fast-paced action and romance between the two main characters. I thank NetGalley and the publisher, Oliver Heber Books, for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I gave it three stars.

Action packed and full of suspense, the romance is sexy and the plotting fast paced. I'm never disappointed with this author. This is the first in a new series and I am ready for more. I did feel like I was either missing something or some of this started in a previous series. I'm still not sure and am going back to previous books I have read to double check. It didn't take away from the reading experience though. Highly recommend this book and this author!

I enjoy reading books by this author and normally a first click. It was a good read but a little outlandish, predictable and a little long.

Master of Lies is a high intensity action packed page turner that keeps you on the edge of your seat as the twist and turns keeps you engrossed with just the right amount of drama and plenty of heat if you like alpha males and self assured know their own minds take charge woman this is the book for you. This is totally my own opinion but I did feel as if this was more a continuation of a pervious book instead of a series starter it will be quite interesting to see in what direction the author chooses to take future books.
