I think I might be a little too old to truly enjoy this, it was definitely too YA for me. The FMC annoyed me and felt very immature even for her age.

Though it was an easy and quick read with a fun plot. Love the 13 going on 30 vibes but with the mix that both main characters were involved, so good just not great.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

A YA Suddenly 30-esque novel?! Sign me up! I haven't read YA in a long time, but this one spoke to me for some reason, and I found myself enjoying it for the cute YA rom-com that it is. I do wish Lea had gone into more depth, less pop culture reference with the characters and tried to make the book her own than let it rest on the zeitgeist of the current "Girl" trend, but this feels like one I'd be happy to see teens picking up over certain other romance authors, especially since it *is* geared towards teens. With the feel of Lynn Painter, Jenny Han and Emma Lord, I do recommend WOKE UP LIKE THIS for anyone looking for an easy read.

Such a delight! This book had me from page one, waking up years later with a whole differently life--completely intriguing and wonderfully written!

This book is truly Original, a breath of fresh air in the YA romance community. We follow Charlotte Wu, a 17 year old high school senior who is Vice President of the Student Body and her archnemisis, J.T. Renner who is making her life miserable while she is planning their last Prom-Under the Sea themed. I felt like I could relate and recognize myself as a teenager, and then the book flash-forwards into time Travel where both of these characters wake up in their 30s and have to deal with the consequences of their actions in the future, like a domino falling. Charlotte wakes up in bed, engaged to her sworn enemy since the 9th grade, and wants nothing more than to go back in time.

I truly loved and appreciated the romance in here, the classic enemies-to-lovers trope was executed perfectly and warmed my heart. I wish we got more context about her Dad and Mom, we didn't really see much of the side characters because the author was extremely almost too focused on the depth of just our two main characters, and I would have liked to explore her best friend Cassie's story more if I'm honest. The way that she wrote close Female friendships was very accurate. I laughed, I cried, and I'm so glad that I finished this one.

Thank you to Netgalley for giving me an early copy of this book.

This book was so cute! I think it’s the first YA by Amy Lea and she totally knows how to write it!
The “teens going in the future” story is a little déjà vu but she just nailed it by adding a second chance enemies to lovers trope in it.
I can’t say a lot about it without spoiling it but I really want to recommend this book for YA romance lovers.

Trigger warning: the loss of a loved one is a heavy subject in this book, I myself cried a lot when reading some chapters.

(3.25) cute, fast paced book about growing up, friendship, and love. One thing that bugged me about the book though was that the main character didn’t read like a gen Z person, and I had initially thought she was going to the future in 2024, therefore coming from the past, but she wasn’t :((. I did enjoy the banter though

Thanks so much to Mindy’s Book Studio, Amy Lea and NetGalley for the eARC, all opinions expressed are my own!

I’m a big fan of Amy’s work and I was excited to delved into a new world. I absolutely loved this YA style book and enjoyed the plot line reminiscent for 13 going on 30 (you can’t go wrong with a classic). It’s brilliantly executed and I loved seeing the romance blossom between Charlotte and JT. Seeing the way their lives had changed at 30 was excellent and a stark reminder of the importance and benefit of living in the moment and mending relationships.

When returned to the present, the tension was fantastic and I enjoyed seeing Charlotte and JT confront their feeling for each other. The story is well written and I absolutely adored the characters. Would definitely recommend!

I found 'Woke Up Like This' by Amy Lea to be an endearing read, a tale that captures the essence of teenage dreams and transitions them into a delightful exploration of adulthood. The narrative begins with a comical twist when Charlotte Wu, an organized high schooler with a meticulous plan for prom, wakes up in her future self's body. Suddenly thirty years old and engaged to her former archnemesis, J. T. Renner, the story takes an unexpected yet charming turn.

While the story occasionally struck a slightly youthful chord, making it feel somewhat juvenile, I appreciated the overall wholesome and heartfelt approach. The budding relationship and genuine character growth were particularly engaging. Lea adeptly delves into the evolution of both Charlotte and Renner, showcasing that life's milestones are less about reaching a specific age and more about the journey and growth that occurs in between.

The adventures and challenges the characters face in their quest to revert to their teenage selves add a layer of excitement to the storyline, keeping readers entertained and invested. The story emphasizes the value of cherishing every stage of life, even with its ups and downs.

In summary, 'Woke Up Like This' is a charming novel that, despite moments of youthful narrative, delivers an uplifting and heartwarming tale. It reminds us to appreciate the journey, no matter where we find ourselves waking up

I did enjoy this.
Easy read
But...
Predictable. So predictable.
Very GenX
It was like reading '13 Going on 30' , and they even mentioned it in the boom. I laughed that they even had the special song, instead of thriller i was Time of Your Life.
Cute and entertaining tho

I know that I don't read a lot of YA anymore, but I couldn't resist making an exception for Woke Up Like This. I do always tend to enjoy a time travel angle in my stories, and I loved the 13 Going On 30 vibe the blurb seemed to have. Now that I've had the chance to read this story, I'm happy to announce that I ended up having such a great time reading it! This YA time travel romance is perfect if you are looking for a quick, entertaining and sweet romance read.

The premise itself can't be called all that original, but I personally didn't mind. There are multiple references and similarities to other time travel stories/movies, and I enjoyed how they were incorporated into the plot. The time travel element and the two main characters ending up in 2037 was without doubt my favorite part of the story, and the chapters set in the future were the strongest for me. This mostly has to do with the fact that I'm not a big fan of high school drama, but then again I'm aware that Woke Up Like This has a YA target audience that probably wouldn't mind.

I do have to say that Charlotte could get really annoying and she is quite immature at times. It was frustrating to see both how she treated others and how she let others treat her, and I sometimes wondered how the rest of the group put up with her. That said, I can't deny that the character growth itself is well done and there are several deeper messages incorporated. The romance itself was on the sweet side, although I could have done without the love triangle vibe. I did enjoy the enemy-to-lovers trope even though it was based on miscommunication and things basically could have been solved with a simple conversation between the main characters.

This was my first experience with Amy Lea's writing, and I will definitely be back for more after reading Woke Up Like This. There is just something about her writing style that makes it so easy to fly through the pages, and I particularly loved the banter. And even though the amount of high school drama was a bit too much for me, I did enjoy how everything was wrapped up in the end. I can definitely recommend Woke Up Like This if you enjoy a well written and sweet YA time travel romance and don't mind a bit of drama.

Woke Up Like This is my first book by this author but I won't be my last. I loved her sense of humour and the book was easy and effortless to read. It was sweet, swoonworthy and angsty. I loved going on this journey with the main characters, Charlotte and Renner. It was a coming of age, coming into your own story that gave a glimpse into adulthood which I loved. It was truly a joy watching them navigate and try to make sense of their world. I enjoyed this one and I'm definitely looking forward to reading other books by this author.

I absolutely adored this book! 17 Going On 30! I am not particularly used to reading the Young Adult genre, so it took a little bit of adjusting to the immaturity of the main characters. By the end, however, I felt like there was a pretty large development in their character arcs by what they endured in their journey through time. There were several moments where I actually laughed out loud. I caught numerous witty pop culture references, which makes this book perfect for a young adult or teenager looking to read a wholesome coming-of-age story. I can definitely envision this novel being a great TV show or movie for teenagers. Reading Woke Up Like This really had me feeling like there was a piece of author Amy Lea, in her writing -- something about it was so personal. I look forward to seeing more of what Amy writes in the future!

YES! I read everything that Mindy Kaling’s studio publishes. I am a big fan of Mindy Kaling and thus far I have enjoyed everything her studio publishes. This one was no exception and might be one of my favorites, if not my favorite thus far. Also, what a beautiful and fitting book cover!

"Woke Up Like This" is such a fun rom-com for young adults and those who never want to grow up. (ie Me). I am a full grown adult and loved everything about this book. It was a good dose of high school nostalgia, plus very similar to the rom com “13 Going on 30” which I loved as a teenager. Charlotte and Renner were excellent main characters who didn’t try to be angsty or anything but their age. It was a cute rom-com filled with some important life lessons.

Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for the arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Boogie’s Bulletpoints
-I love Charlotte’s drive and dedication.

-I love the flash forward to the future, as Charlotte and Renner try to figure out how they got there.

-There is a lot of laughter in this book, but a lot of sadness too, which makes the book feel very real and relatable.

-No spoilers, but I loved the ending.

Woke Up Like This was kindly provided as an ARC by Netgalley and Mindy’s Book Studio. Thank you for allowing me to read this wonderful book!

Release Date: Out Now

Yall. I loved this book so much. Charlotte is trying to have the perfect Senior Prom, and is constantly up against her enemy, JT Renner. Obviously there is chemistry there, but nothing shocks them more than when they wake up in the year 2037 and are engaged. They have to figure out how they got there, but also how to get back to their Senior Year.

There is so much I loved about this book. Obviously the 13 Going on 30 vibes, but also how relatable the story is in its own way. Reading this took me right back to high school, and I felt the same range of emotions that Charlotte felt.

Lea did such an amazing job of writing this book. It was fun and funny, but also heavy and relatable at times too. I highly recommend this book!

I was so excited to get this ARC for “Woke up Like This" from the fabulous author Amy Lea. I highly recommend this story - I was such a fan!

Woke Up Like This was such a cute coming of age, (PG) enemies to lovers story. It was nice to see how both timelines line up up together as each character reveals tid-bits from their pasts. Charlotte and Renner have a sweet banter between them and by the end of the story they realize that small details from their present can have large impacts on their future.

This was such a short, easy, and enjoyable read!! Thank you so much NetGalley, Amy Lea, and Mindy’s Book Studio for the opportunity to review this ARC!

5/5 stars, I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end! Reminiscent of 13 going on 30, it’s such a great lesson in love, relationships, stress, and anxiety. I adored Charlotte and Josh and definitely would be keen to read this one again!

This is a cute story: a 13 going on 30 vibe, but with the added advantage of having a partner in crime that's along for the ride. While reading this book I found myself reminiscing about my own time in high school, which left me feeling nostalgic and simultaneously envious that I didn’t have my own rivals to lovers arc. Though “Woke Up Like This” is a Young Adult novel, it makes for the perfect quick and lighthearted summer read that any adult can enjoy.
