This was such a cute read! I absolutely love 13 going on 30 its one of my favourite films of all time and this book just gave the same vibes and I loved it! I loved Char and Renner and the whole concept of waking up in your older selfs body is just so cool and interesting to me. Great book again from Amy Lea!
I absolutely adore and love Amy Lea's books she had me hooked from her influencer series and I just can't wait to read her next book The Catch!

3.5/4 ⭐️ I thought this was a very sweet book, that perfect blend of nostalgia, tension, and the unmistakable youth that is high school. A great 17 going on 30 story, laugh out loud moments, adorable love story rom com moments: I call books like this candy because they are easy and quick to burn through.
The only reason it’s teetering on a 3.5 instead of a full on 4 for me is because there were just a few sections of it where the pacing was slow and repetitive, IMO overplaying the arch nemesis love hate relationship, making me want to throttle them both and tell them to figure their shit out so I could get some closure. Lol. But maybe that’s what she was going for and in the end it’s probably more realistic of an actual real life experience. Either way, a great read with a very fun lighthearted take on time travel love stories.

This book is such a sweet and fun read. It's witty and it honestly pulled me right in. Read it in one sitting because I just could not put it down. I've always loved the movie 13 going on 30 and the cozy nostalgic feeling it gives me everytime I watch it. This is the book version of that feeling for me. It's a feel good book to read so if you're looking for one, this is it!

What a wonderfully cute, feel good, coming of age book. A 13 Going on 30 story, where the male and female main characters both travel forward to age 30! I loved this concept. To have a foreword by Mindy Kaling too? I just knew it was going to be gold.
The time travel was handled in a great way - not too cheesy, not too confusing, not repetitive. It was funny and quirky. I felt like I really knew the main characters by the end of it (I was actually just like Charlotte at her age).
There was some really great character development as Charlotte let go of friendships that no longer served her, and made some important self realizations.
At times it was a little juvenile, I think it is more of a Young Adult book than adult romance. This doesn’t detract from how much I enjoyed it, but definitely something to note.
I received this book as an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Thank you Amy Lea and Mindy’s Book Studio!

Ok, I honestly thought this book was so cute. I tried reading one of Amy Lea’s Influencer series and it wasn’t for me but decided to give this one a try since I love both 13 Going On 30 and Never Have I Ever.
Charlotte Wu is a very Type A character who likes to make lists and plan out her life. Well, life doesn’t quite go to plan when she wakes up in the body and life of her 30 year old self where she is engaged to her high school rival.
I loved seeing Charlotte and JT pretend to be a happily engaged couple and try to piece together what happened in the last 13 years and how on earth they ended up together. They re-examine their relationships with other people and how they had changed since high school and grow closer to each other. As a soon to be 30 year old, I wonder sometimes where the time has gone and where the people I’ve once been close to have ended up in the years since. Really hammered home the importance of cherishing moments for what they are because things may change.
The book did come off as a bit juvenile and I think author Amy Lea’s writing tends to but it seemed to work with a 17 year old protagonist. Overall, I enjoyed this book and the way it captures that hazy nostalgia of high school friendships.
What I liked:
Rivals to lovers
Fake dating
High school nostalgia
Imperfect family
What I disliked:
Excessive pop culture references
3rd act breakup
Misunderstanding

Charlotte Wu has her entire four year high school life planned out before it even started. And sure, not everything planned out, since her nemesis J.T. Renner won student counsel president over here, but she’s doing pretty well. It’s a week before prom, seniors week, and she’s excited for the rest of her life. But one minute she’s setting up the gym for prom, and the next minute she’s 30, and you won’t guess who’s in bed with her. Navigating through this jump into her 30s she’s trying to figure out how she got here, and if she can get back to being 17 again or not.
I didn’t love the character of charlotte. I’m a little over the over played clumsy, not leading role, just a side character main character. She’s a caricature almost. Renner was lovely, mature with keeping his childish whimsy, and dreamy. It was a predictable and cute story that gave exactly what you would expect from the synopsis. An easy and fun read for anyone.

what a fun read! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this sweet YA novel. Lea did a great job with the 13yr time jump, balancing hilarity with a touch of melancholy over the loss of time and relationships. The fact that both MC’s jumped back and suffered through the confusion together only added to my enjoyment. I only wish we had at least one chapter from Renner's POV because I just wanted to know what was going on in his mind towards the end! Would highly recommend to fans of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before!

This book had a fun and adorable take on the time travel concept. Each chapter kept me guessing and excited to find out what happenes next. I found myself devouring this book in a day.
I really grew to love the two main characters and their story. The romance was extremely sweet and had me blushing and smiling throughout the entire book.
Perfect for fans of 13 Going On 30 or lovers of a good rom-com!

I really loved this book.
This was a really fun twist on 13 Going On 30. *sigh* Char and Renner. It was hilarious and fun to watch them wake up in their 30 year old bodies, engaged to one another. I laughed a lot. I loved watching them bond over things that had “changed” since they were 17. Both MCs really grew throughout the book (both physically and emotionally ha). I’m just so thankful I requested this book and got the opportunity to read it.

This is one of my absolute favorite concepts. "Time Travel" or whatever iteration of it this trope happens to be is one that I'm most likely to devour in one sitting, without any hesitation. Diving right into these hasn't failed me yet. And it still holds true for this story.
Charlotte (Char) and JT are high school... Rivals? Not exactly, but they don't get along. In fact, while Char used to have a little crush on him, once he asked her to the Homecoming Dance and "ditched her", all bets were off. He's been a thorn in her side ever since. When they end up having to plan their Prom together, a freak accident propels them 13 years into the future... Where they are married... To each other!
I was pretty hesitant about Char at the beginning of the story. I worried that she wouldn't have any likable or endearing qualities. But, as I read on, I could see how she gradually redeemed herself and learned from the mistakes that her future self had made.
As for JT? He was endearing from the start. It was pretty easy to read between the lines and see that he held a candle for Char, despite what he'd supposedly done.
While reading about them as teenagers should've been the nostalgic high school romance that should've kept me hooked, it was them having to learn themselves as adults is what truly drew me in. You couldn't help but root for them, especially after they finally gave into their attraction as adults.
Their behavior when they returned to the present annoyed me at first, mostly because of their stilted interactions, but the ending definitely made up for it. What I would've loved to have seen is a future-take of their future selves at thirty. Would they have wound up having the future that they'd experienced? Or would it have changed because of their decisions in the present?
4 ⭐️

This book was so sweet and fun! I thought I knew how it would play out (girl falls and wakes up to learn her future self is not nice), but I was happily surprised by the plot. I really liked how the 2 main characters both experience the “time travel.” This book was clever, easy to read, and heartwarming - loved it!

Planning a magical prom is one last item to be completed on senior Charlotte Wu's high school bucket list. When a prom decorating accident sends Charlotte crash-landing off a ladder and straight into her archnemesis, J.T. Renner, Charlotte wakes up as a 30-year-old. Charlotte finds herself in an unfamiliar bed with none other than Renner himself, who just happens to be her fiancé. Charlotte and Renner have no memory of the past 13 years. They have either lost their minds or they are trapped in the 30-year-old bodies of their future selves. Now in the year 2037, Charlotte and Renner discover all that has changed in the time they've missed. Charlotte also learns that there is more to Renner than just a charming jock. Navigating their new normal and a series of adventures, Charlotte and Renner will do whatever it takes to find a way back to 17. But when and if they do, what then?
"Woke Up Like This" is a magical rom-com for young adults and for the young at heart. This book is full of high school nostalgia, and it was a lighthearted, feel-good story. While this book is similar to the movie "13 Going on 30," the biggest change is that two characters went forward in time, which I absolutely loved. Charlotte and Renner were the perfect main characters—so lovable and relatable. Charlotte's ambition and determination reminded me a lot of myself in high school. This book is a fun and fast-paced rom-com full of laugh-out-loud moments, but there are also many heartfelt moments with important life lessons. This was my first Amy Lea novel, and I am officially obsessed!

Amy Lea’s adorable new novel, Woke Up Like This, is a wonderful take on the theme “be careful what you wish for”. Teenaged Charlotte is anxious to barrel into adulthood (as her mom calls it) and to Charlotte’s surprise she wakes up as her 30-year-old self, with her sworn male enemy in bed beside her. What happens next will leave the reader spellbound and feeling all the feels. Although the book has serious 13 Going On 30 vibes, it’s also fresh, easy to read and delightful in every way.

Adorable! Who wouldn’t love a do-over of some high school moments that will ultimately change your future? Charlotte is relatable and the scene where she wakes up in the future was hilarious. There’s a lot of life lessons to be learned and Charlotte reads a little younger in some aspects but I enjoyed getting to watch her grow. This was a fun read that’s highly recommended for those who love YA and second chances.

This cute time travel YA book follows Charlotte and JT who wake up thirteen years later as thirty year olds, in the same bed. Considering they didn't get along in high school, how is it possible that the two are now together? And how can they get back to being their seventeen year old selves?
This light romance was exactly what I needed after reading a few heavier books. It was a quick read with extremely likable characters who you can't help rooting for.

I read this in a day. It was a very nostalgic and fun read for me. It gave me all of the vibes of 13 going on 30, which happens to be one of my all time favorite movies.
As a horror reader and rom-com watcher this was a bit of a change up for me, but so worth it.

Charlotte and J.T. Renner wake up from 18 yrs old to 30 yrs old. They go from rivals to lovers after time travel.
I understand Charlotte perfectly... She is a perfectionist who tries to plan things perfectly.... He's the complete opposite. It's sweet how they get together and grow together.
Thanks to the publisher for the arc.

Amy Lea is an automatic-buy author for me after reading the first two books of her “Influencer series” (Set on You and Exes & O’s, with The Catch coming out in 2024!). She knows how to write relatable and endearing characters, so I was very excited to read Woke Up Like This. As someone who watched “13 Going on 30” several times over the years (yikes…I am getting old….the movie came out in 2004), I knew immediately I was going to love this book! And I did! It was heartwarming, sweet, and a cozy read before I dive into all of my fall seasonal reads.
This book is perfect for someone looking for a very similar storyline to “13 Going on 30”, a great arc of enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, as well as a small town/hometown romance.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an Advanced Reader Copy of this book in exchange for a honest review!

This is without a doubt, the cutest most heart warming little love story I’ve read in a long time. I didn’t really look at the synopsis too closely before reading this so when the story seemingly took a left turn and they found themselves in their 30 year old selves, I was immediately excited. I absolutely LOVE stories with accidental time travel.
You know the feeling of taking a sweatshirt straight out of the dryer and putting it on while it’s still warm? That’s what reading Woke Up Like This was like. So cute!!

This book was so fun!!!! It's definitely got the 13 Going On 30 ("thirty, flirty & thriving!") thing going on and I am here for it! This time our heroine AND her archnemesis are catapulted into the future -- or are they?
I read the book in one day. It's been ages since I sat down with some YA and this book reminds me why it can be such an enjoyable genre to read.
