Charlotte and Renner are high school enemies. Started when Renner bailed on the homecoming dance. Fast forward to senior year. Both Charlotte and Renner are prepping for prom when Charlotte’s ladder falls and she wakes up next to 30 year old Renner. They both remember being 17 and in the gym then boom! Instantly 30.
Woke Up Like This definitely has 13 going on 30 vibes but two people are experiencing the same thing. Even though it was clear they got on each other’s nerves I never doubted how Renner felt about Charlotte. Overall a fun, easy read.

Char is approaching the end of her senior year, planning her prom and her life after high school. What she doesn’t expect is to wake up one morning – as her 30-year-old self, 17 years in the future – and in bed with her high school arch nemesis.
What a fun read! As soon as I read the synopsis for this, I was excited to pick it up. This book put a smile on my face and I didn’t want to put it down. I loved the “13 Going on 30” vibe of this book, and thought all of the characters were super relatable (especially for a YA novel!). While this is so much fun, it also covers more serious topics such as estranged relationships with parents, and dealing with grief. I fully expected this to be a 5 star read, and it did not disappoint.

What if...? If only...?
This is like the movie "Peggy Sue Got Married" but in reverse and times two. Instead of going back in time, high school rivals Char and JT both fall head first (literally) into the future. Thirteen years into the future where they are thirty years old, madly in love, and engaged to be married in a week. Whaaa?!
Now they have to figure out how this happened and somehow get back to seventeen and ready for the senior prom. But not before they learn a little about themselves that will help them now and in their next thirteen years.
This book was a lot of fun. It was happy and sad, depressing and uplifting, frustrating and satisfying. The most frustrating part was Char and her Type A self. She is always organizing, making lists, heading every committee because only she can get it done right, obsessed over every detail and every small thing that will look good on her college applications. She stressed me out just reading her.
I had a lot fun and laughs with the book! So sweet and so high school awkward.

When I read this book was like 13 Going On 30, I immediately knew it was tailor made for me. It definitely didn’t disappoint.
Charlotte and J.T. are high school rivals at the end of their senior year. Prom is approaching, and they have an accident while decorating the gym. Next thing they know, they wake up in bed together and it’s 13 years later. Also, they happen to be engaged.
The book was so fun as you read about them falling for each other and trying to get back to their high school selves. Plus, they acted out the Dirty Dancing dance in it and who could say no to that?
Thanks as always to NetGalley for this ARC.

I loved this just as much as I enjoyed watching 13 Going on 30. I know my younger self would have loved to read this too!

You're telling me she wakes up in a room she doesn't recognize, she's 30 and with her High school rival next to her? SIGN ME UP!
Charlotte and J.T. are complete opposites and pretty much have been competing most of High School, until one day they have an accident together and wake up in their 30s. Trying to piece things together they realize that they are engaged to be married in a week! Trying to piece things back together from the 13 years they missed they get to know each other better and feelings start to develop and whoop their back into their 17 year old bodies.
THE FEELS I HAD FOR THIS BOOK! I love them so so much. I am still crying to be honest. The way I was rooting for them the whole fucking time. I love the time jump to them in their 30s and when they come back. I will recommend this book always. I screamed so much and I was on the edge of my seat. I loved this book so much!!!
Thank you NetGalley for the e-arc version of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This books was brilliant, I read the full thing in one sitting. It was such a fun read, knowing that the time jump was coming but not quite sure how it would pan out and Amy Lea has pulled it off perfectly. Such a good turn that it was both Char and Renner that got thrown forwards into the future.
The slow burn romance, the way it dealt with difficult family relationships and growing up and growing apart from friends all in one parcel was a real treat.
Great read and will definitely be diving into more of Amy Lea’s novels.

Charlotte Wu is your typical highly strung geeky high schooler hoping very much to hit all of the greats on her bucket list before she leaves school. Her arch enemy JT Renner has already usurped her plan to be Class President again and he is doing everything he can to foil her Plan for a Perfect Prom.
Charlotte is griping and unhappy but it's not until she falls off a ladder while decorating that the book really takes off. Charlotte falls right on top of JT and wakeup TWELVE YEARS in the future. Charlotte is confused and
scared as she learns what happens when she turns 30. If you love a rom com, this is an unusual and well written one for you! I love all of the characters and Lea did a fantastic job of representing different types of people and all the angst that comes along when you are in high school #MindysbookStudio #WokeUpLikeThis #AmyLea

I loved this book. It was a fun YA loose retelling of 13 Going on 30. The enemies to lovers vibes were great, with the conflict revolving around school and teen misunderstandings. It was so cute!

"It was a feeling that crept up on me slowly, so naturally that it felt like coming home."
What an adorable book! I loved Amy Lea's reimagining of 13 Going on 30 and the twists she put on the story. For one, the fact that both Char and Renner get propelled into the future was a fun new way of doing a time travel romance. I also loved all the pop culture references sprinkled throughout the book, including Renner listing off every time travel movie he knew.
And don't think "Woke Up Like This" is just a fluffy, cotton candy sweet story with no substance. Lea also weaves heartwarming and thoughtful moments throughout that round out the story and give the characters depth. I can easily see this becoming a movie and I would watch it in a heartbeat!
The Vibes: 13 Going on 30, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, 10 Things I hate About You
Spice Level Bell Pepper: kissing, mentions of nudity but nothing descriptive, appropriate for teens
Tropes: Time Travel, Enemies to Lovers, Opposites Attract
Triggers: none of the big ones; mentions of sibling and parent death and depression

Amy Lea is an incredible author. I love the way she writes and the way she gives her main characters depth. This is no different even though it's YA. Charlotte loves to plan she has the perfect plan for high school. And all she wants to accomplish in her last weeks. The only problem- her nemesis - JT Renner is screwing up all her high school plans.
When the two are together to decorate for prom, a freak accident happens and the two are transported into the future a la 13 going on 30 but the kicker here is that Renner and Charlotte are set to get married in a couple of weeks. The story follows them working together to get back to 2024.
It was so cute. It was amazing. It had all the classic Amy Lea writing styles. It broke me. I love that it was single POV so that we had no idea of Renners thoughts except through his interactions with Charlotte. Was there a twist? Nah. But man what a story. It was low stakes and sweet and I wanna reread it again.

Absolutely LOVED this story! As a fan of 13 going on 30, I was excited to dive into this book. I read through it so fast and loved every page. The enemy/friendship/lovers theme was perfect and I loved all the adventures they went through together.
Going into the future and seeing where you and your family will be is already a shell shock, but falling in love and getting engaged to the one person you despise is a whole other ball game.
This book is full of love and self discovery and reflection. Definitely a must read

I love everything Amy Lea writes, and this was no exception!
Woke Up Like This is a 17 going on 30 young adult romance following Charlotte Wu and J.T. Renner as they plan their senior year prom - and in the midst of it somehow end up on the time travel journey of a lifetime!
Charlotte and JT follow a typical rivals to lovers romance arc, but the time travel twist added a whole other aspect to that made their relationship more interesting. JT is as charming as ever, and Charlotte's character arc was memorable! Being around the same age as them, I felt like it was an accurate depiction of the chaos that comes with high school and especially senior year. It made me more excited for what's to come, and since the future is something so prevalent with the uncertainty that comes after high school, the time travel aspect worked so well!
All in all, Woke Up Like This is for fans of Rachel Lynn Soloman, Emma Lord, and Kasie West!

"For two high school seniors, it’s seventeen going on thirty—overnight—in a magical romantic comedy about growing up too fast and living in the moment.
Planning the perfect prom is one last “to do” on ultra-organized Charlotte Wu’s high school bucket list. So far, so good, if not for a decorating accident that sends Charlotte crash-landing off a ladder, face-first into her obnoxiously ripped archnemesis J. T. Renner. Worse? When Charlotte wakes up, she finds herself in an unfamiliar bed at thirty years old, with her bearded fiancé, Renner, by her side.
Either they’ve lost their minds or they’ve been drop-kicked into adulthood, forever trapped in the thirty-year-old bodies of their future selves. With each other as their only constant, Charlotte and Renner discover all that’s changed in the time they’ve missed. Charlotte also learns there’s more to Renner than irritating-jock charm, and that reaching the next milestone isn’t as important as what happens in between.
Navigating a series of adventures and a confounding new normal, Charlotte and Renner will do whatever it takes to find a way back to seventeen. But when—and if—they do, what then?

Perfect for fans of 13 Going on 30 or Today, Tonight, Tomorrow, @amyleabooks writes a fun and unique YA romance that was so relatable to my teenage self.
Woke Up Like This is a quintessential tale of YA enemies to lovers when you realize you might not have actually been enemies all along.
Charlotte was a character that I think a lot of perfectionist, goal-oriented readers could relate to, and the friendships in this story captured the way things change over time.
I really enjoyed getting a glimpse at future Renner and Charlotte, and am so happy that this book was optioned for the screen.

I am a total sucker for some kind of time travel story, especially with romance. I loved that this had a bit of YA lean, as it's a coming of age where you catapult from 17 to 30.
I have read, and loved everyone of Amy Lea's books and will definitely read anything and everything she writes

A mix between 13 going in 30 and Never Have I Ever, this book was as fun as both with some good nuggets of depth and emotional connection swirled in.
When Charlotte wakes up after a fall off of a ladder next to her nemesis, J.T., she does not know where she is. Turns out they both time jumped into the future and are engaged to be married. Throughout their journey, they discovered all that has transpired during the 13 years they missed and are desperately trying to make it back to their 17-year-old selves.
I loved that both Charlotte and JT were in the same situation, different from what you expect where maybe only the female main character would still think she was a teenager. It definitely brought a camaraderie between them as they navigate this new world they are living in together.
A quick, fun read for fans of the classic rom-com. It was hard for me to put down as Amy did a fantastic job peeling back the layers to reveal new truths in their life and keep the reader on their toes. I just had to know what came next and loved seeing them grow closer to each other.
My only complaint is the timing for all the end of senior year stuff. No way would exams happen a month before school ends. There would be no point in students continuing to show up to class. Also, there is a mention of a promposal happening at a football game a week before school and football games don't happen in the spring.

13 Going on 30 is one of my all-time favorites, and Amy Lea's newest book has a similarly charming storyline. Charlotte and Renner go from bickering while decorating for prom to waking up as 30 year olds, engaged to each other. As they try to figure out how to send themselves back in time, they also learn they may have more in common than they think.
This was a fun, fast read! It definitely sucked me in, and kept me turning pages to see how they'd end up together for real. I do wish we got a bit more of the lovers part of the enemies to lovers trope though.

This was such a delight! I absolutely loved this premise. This story is basically the high school version of 13 Going on 30 and it made for such a fun rom-com read. This might be a YA book, and I’m sure teens will love it, but I’m equally confident that readers who were teens when 13 Going on 30 came out will enjoy it just as much. I got the exact same feelings from reading this book and I did from watching that movie for the first time. It’s all about living in the moment and not spending too much time worrying about the future or looking back on the past.
The romance in this was so good! I always enjoy an academic rivals to lovers story and Charlotte and Renner’s relationship fit this trope so well. Their banter was entertaining and I really enjoyed getting to know more about their history as the story went on.
I also really liked that friendship was a big focus in this. Charlotte goes on a long journey (from 2024 to 2037 and back) and learns a lot about herself and the kind of friends she deserves to have in her life. It was so nice seeing her eventually stick up for herself and open up honest communication with a certain problematic friend.
I’ve really enjoyed this author ’s adult romances and I’m so happy that I liked her YA debut just as much!
Thank you so much to NetGalley, the author and publisher for providing me with an early copy in exchange for an honest review!

✨17 Going on 30✨
Listen, the book was perfect. I don’t have much else to say. It delivered exactly what we were promised and a whole lot more. Waking up 13 years from prom engaged to your nemesis is actually such a bucket list item now??? Would I technically have to time travel back to 17 and then jump forward again? Shhhh.
There’s something about an Amy Lea book that feels so personal, and Woke Up Like This is THE example. It perfectly captures the nostalgia of 13 Going on 30, while creating a book that is incredibly unique yet entirely relatable. Char and J.T. gave incredible LJ and Peter K. vibes—literally the book references them! I love when I can tell an author is paying homage like that; it always makes the book feel more genuine. Woke Up Like This read like a love letter to romcoms.
Between Exes and O’s and Woke Up Like This, it’s safe to say that Amy Lea absolutely gets has my number. She’s an auto-read author for me and now she may be an auto-WATCH one as well??? I know it’s already been optioned, so I’m quite literally counting down the days until I can watch the movie version. Fingers and everything else crossed. I need it so fundamentally. In the mean time, I can’t wait for the audiobook <3
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Thanks so much to the author and her publicist for gifting me review copies! All opinions are honest and my own.
