I felt let down by some of the storyline and context of the world building in this book - the romance felt rushed and too rapid for the timeline. I love Stacey McEwans writing usually but this one didn’t hit for me until the very end. I’ll continue the series out of loyalty for the author but those who are more critical with their reading won’t enjoy this. Keeping a light hearted unserious attitude will rate higher I think.

As someone who grew up with dystopian YA, I found the description really intriguing!
The sample is definitely making me add this book on my TBR. I'm curious to find out why do Glacians need the humans and their sacrifice. Dawsyn's life sounds incredibly lonely, I want to know what is happening beyond the borders of the only world she's ever known and why.
Thank you, Netgalley and publisher for providing the exclusive sample.

Well two chapters are just not enough of this gem. I’ve been intrigued by the premise of this story since hearing about it some time ago, so when I saw a sampler on NetGalley I downloaded it immediately. The story had me intrigued right from the start. Dawsyn seems like a fantastic FMC with a lot of fight.
The setting beautifully lends itself to the what I feel will be a massive sense of urgency further along in the story. I need the rest of this book now.

Thank you to netgalley and Angry Robot for the sample chapters!
This book has always interested me and after reading these first two chapters I can say I am truly hooked, have purchased the book and I will 100% reading this series very soon!!!
I love a fantasy setting where it is giving cold/frosty and wintery vibes and this is exactly that! I am definitely hooked to follow Dawsyn's story!

I read the sample chapter of Ledge and I’m already hooked. The opening drops you straight into a tense, icy setting with just enough mystery to make me desperate for answers. The writing is sharp and immersive, and the worldbuilding hints at a dark, dangerous landscape I can’t wait to explore.
Even in just this short glimpse, the main character’s grit and determination stand out, and I can tell there’s going to be a strong survival element mixed with intrigue and maybe a little romance. This sample did exactly what it was supposed to—it left me wanting more.
I’ll definitely be picking up the full book and diving into the series.

Been looking forward to reading this book for quite a while!
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this Arc!
Really enjoyed this story, look forward to reading more from the author

This sampler really hooked me. The author's writing style feels very atmospheric and immersive, but not so much that you can't relax and enjoy the story unfolding. The pacing is great - I didn't feel my mind wander at any point which is definitely saying something in the digital age. I was hooked enough to add the full book to my TBR. Hoping to read before the year is over. Thank you for the preview!

the fmc had alot of fight . fiesty and determined. i love worlds that are orientated around summer, ice, winter, night , makes it more mysterious

Alright, well 2 chapters didn't feel like nearly enough. I was invested in the story immediately and was left curious and wanting more. I mean, who doesn't enjoy a mysterious dystopian tale? I love that the story dives right in from the beginning, with enough detail to show that the FMC is tough and knows how to survive, even the most difficult of situations. I will definitely be reading the rest of this story, as soon as I can get my hands on it.

The first two chapters read like a crossover between The Hunger Games (mysterious drops of food, clothing and tools, to be fought for) and The Book of the Ice by Mark Lawrence (frigid environment, family/clan is everything to survival, icy hole that people are sacrificed to). It's pretty pacy, and is setting up our Strong Female Character in a straightforward way.
Personally, I really dislike a 24 year old being called a girl -- especially just after sex with a similar-age character referred to as a man, not a boy. And there are some weird phrasings that needed smoothing out: what is a "conversant pulse"? Saplings would be dug up, not cut, etc. The initial writing style is quite overdone, but books like that do often settle down once the plot gets going. I would need to read more to have a better sense of the story direction and how I'd recommend it.

I received an ARC for the first 2 chapters of Ledge by Stacey McEwan. I was immediately gripped and invested in the story. The description of the main character’s setting is stark and seems rather hopeless. There is also a good amount of mystery regarding this chasm and the glaciens on the other side. I will definitely read the entire book after reading these two chapters. Thank you for the opportunity to read it!

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC! The ARC consisted of the first two chapters of Ledge by Stacey McEwan.
First of all, I want to say that the concept for this book is very interesting. I would probably go on to read the rest of the book for the concept alone, as I'm interested to see where the story goes for the main character, Dawsyn.
However, I was not a fan of the writing style. The language felt a bit too decorative and ornate. I can see that the author was trying to paint a colorful picture with words, but it missed the mark and ended up feeling cloying and flowery.
It's possible that the language gets better as the book goes on, so for that I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested by the description. It's worth a try.

This book is going to be amazing, the spoiler was fun and everything is sucking you in to read the rest. Will need to get the book like now.

I finally got around to reading this book, as I cannot wait to read Forbidden Alchemy by the same author.
I would rate this debut novel 3.5 out of 5 stars with a 2 for spice. It has the bones for a great book and series and I'll definitely be continuing.
The world building was perfect, in that I didn't get lost. Dawsyn was a strong FMC, which I love in fantasy novels.
It just felt very formulaic but again, will be continuing.

What an amazing starting couple of chapters! I now have the audio copy of this book and will be reading the full series.
The premise of this book has me hooked already, I have so many questions and am really interested in the progression of the relationship, whether she will be taken by the Glacians, the characters are so relatable already.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an sampler of this book.
WOW, what a taste. I was intrigued all the way through, I was thoroughly attached to both Dawsyn and Hector and really felt their pain. I was on the edge of my seat trying to puzzle out what is going on throughout. I will 100% be buying a copy of this book as I just have to know what happens next.
Highly recommend

This two chapter sampler just isn't enough! Adding it to my cart so I can continue reading asap!
This story sucked me in right from the start with the mystery of the creatures keeping them trapped to the friendship with the "boy next door". I am very intrigued as to where this story will go. Both Dawsyn and Hector seem very likable, but I am curious to see if Hector sticks around in this story. The writing style and pace seem really good in the first two chapters. Overall, very excited to continue!
Thank you NetGalley for a sample of Ledge.

Eeek this has got me so excited to read this book in the future. Has gone straight on my TBR. Love the writing style and the premise.

Although this was only a sample, the first two chapters were very intriguing! I’ve heard great things about this series, so I definitely want to give it a try. The prose was lovely, yet not difficult to understand. I felt the characters we are introduced to were well fleshed out, but still left some mystery. And the world building was fantastic here - not info dumpy at all!

This sampler of Ledge is the first work of author Stacey McEwan that I've read. I've seen her newest release- Forbidden Alchemy- talked about on Bookstagram and when I see this sampler was from her, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to check out the beginning of this story and her writing style. I'm glad I did. The first two chapters of Ledge are very intriguing and made me want to know how to story evolves. I'll definitely be picking up Ledge to see how it unfolds and looking into the author's other titles.
